How long have you beeninvolved with the SCC?I've been an active memberof the scc since early 1970'sboth in NY chapter andmostly in Midwest chapter

What companies have youworked for? Except for couple of years, most of my career I worked inour industry started in 1970with a company. ClintwoodChemical that specialized in

amides where I learned surfactant chemistry, the principles of formulatingand should give credit to Chester Mokuleski who started me on the righttrack. I joined RITA in mid 70's as a rep. in east coast territory ( learned a lot insales from Steve Good) . For family matters moved to Kansas City Mo. workedin the lab. at C.J.Patterson where their specialty was lactic acid derivatives. For20 years I worked as a rep. for Henkel chemical which became Cognis which inturn got sold to BASF.

I left Cognis in late 90's and joined a co. called Albright and Wilson whichbasically disintegrated after it was sold to Rhodia. who sold part of thesurfactant division to Huntsman. The rest is history when co's buy each other.I worked for few years. at Fitz chem. with my buddy Mike Mack.

I should give credit to lot of people that helped in my tenure in cosmetics ascolleagues and customers. In my opinion no matter what position you occupyone cannot do it alone. Unfortunately, space is limited to list all.

Who is your current employer?Presently, I am self employed representing CLR and Southern Chem.

Tell us about your hobbies or leisure activities:I do not know if you call golf a hobby or leisure activity, where elsecan you spend hours outdoors enjoying something that is sometimesfrustrating to lot of people, and by the way expensive.

Project Innovation

The third annual Project I took place on Friday, February 19 at HadleyJunior High School in Glen Ellyn. Project Innovation was organized by theGlenbard West High School STEM club.

Claire Wild and Shay Kiker, repectively a junior and senior at Glenbard WestHigh School, co-founded the student led Project Innovation, or Project I,that is designed for eitgth graders who will be attending Glenbard Westnext year. Claire Wild shared the following message.

“Our overall goal is to inspire these students. First tobecome involved in STEM related jobs as so many kids

understand what an English teacher or a cook does, butcan’t visualize an engineer’s job, a creative marketing

manager, or a software developer. Secondly, to write theirown story. We hope these students will understand thediversity of careers available and become well-roundedindividuals who can contribute in new and innovativeways, specifically in areas they are passionate about.”

Each eighth grade students were given the opportunity to select the foursessions they were interested in attending.

Christine Daraska (Croda), Melissa Tolla, and Crystal (TH Hilson) attendedevent on behalf of the MWSCC. We gave information on our backgroundand how we became involved in the cosmetic industry. Christine andCrystal presented their companies and their role in the cosmetic industrychain of commerce. They then conducted a demonstration where eachstudent made their own lotion by mixing oil, water, and an emulsifier. Many students added food color to personalize their product.
