Nine MiddletownHigh School stu-dents performed

in 2017 NYSSMA area all-state ensembles on Nov.17-18 at Tri-Valley HighSchool in Grahamsville.

These students wereselected based on thescores they received atlast spring’s NYSSMAsolo evaluations. Theyshared the stage with thebest musicians fromOrange, Sullivan, Ulster,Rockland and Greenecounties.

Krislyn Mazza (sopra-no II), Elizabeth Diaz(alto II), Tristen Collins(tenor I), FreddyQuinonez (tenor I),Anthony France (bass I)and Samuel Johnson(bass I) performed withthe Mixed Chorus. Nine Middletown High School student musicians named area all-state

Middletown’s district music programwill be on public display in front oflarge and appreciative audiences

throughout December and January.The holiday concert series begins with

the William A. Carter Elementary Schoolchorus concert on Dec. 5 at MiddletownHigh School, and then runs through Jan. 24,2018. That final show will feature the Carterbands and orchestras at Monhagen MiddleSchool.

In between, you will have the chance toenjoy music from our district studentmusicians in grades 4-12. All of our showsare free, and you will be amazed at the tal-ent level of our performers. Our nationallyrecognized program also had three stu-dents selected to perform in state-levelensembles.

Senior Angela Fiedler was selected for thesecond-straight year to play her violin at theNew York State School Music Association all-state concert Nov. 30-Dec. 3 in Rochester.Fielder made the first violin section of theSymphony Orchestra (not just women). Lastyear, she made the second violin of theString Orchestra, so she actually placedhigher this year and will be performing witha more advanced group of musicians.

Junior Krislyn Mazza has been chosen toperform in the Women’s Chorus during the

same Rochester festival Nov. 30-Dec. 3. Bothwill perform on stage of the Eastman KodakTheater, located on the campus of theEastman School of Music. Mazza andFiedler were selected based on receivingperfect scores during their spring NYSSMALevel 6 auditions, which are the highest leveland most difficult work a student can per-form.

Twin Towers eighth-grader AllissonGonzalez was selected to play in the NewYork State Band Directors Association con-cert, which will be held in March atSyracuse. She was chosen based on herNYSSMA spring score, as well as herextracurricular activities and teacher rec-ommendation.

Fiedler and Mazza, along with seven oftheir Middletown High School classmates,performed in a NYSSMA area all-stateensemble Nov. 17-18 at Tri-Valley HighSchool in Grahamsville. All received thishonor based on their NYSSMA springauditions.

Middletown has been honored with anational “Best Communities for MusicEducation” designation for the last threeyears, placing the program among thenation’s finest. Please consider coming outto our shows over the next two months andsee for yourself what others are saying.
