Middle Level Education in the Digital Age: Student Centered Teaching and Learning With Technology
Digital Ice Breaker• Take out a digital device. Find
a file that reflects something about you. Anything - image, video, music, website, even an app!
• Turn to a neighbor, take 2 minutes to share files. Be prepared to introduce your neighbor and their file.
• Each of you generate a question you have about learning with technology. Make a note of it and be prepared to share it in 140 characters or less.

Thinking about the learning activity you described in the TPCK model where might you place it on the SAMR Taxonomy?
Thinking about the learning activity you described in the TPCK model how might you redesign it to move it closer to
transformation on the SAMR Taxonomy?
Technology Integration Matrix
As you watch the next short video think be prepared to discuss
the following:
How does TIM relate to TPCK and SAMR?
How might TPCK, SAMR, and TIM be
combined to implement effective Ed. Tech in your
school?
How does TIM relate to TPCK and SAMR?
How might TPCK, SAMR, and TIM be combined to implement effective BYOD in your school?

How might TPCK, SAMR, and TIM be synthesized to help implement effective BYOD in your school?

Questions After LunchIf you could ask a veteran educator who has:
-effectively integrated tech in the classroom
-helped teachers integrate tech
-helped administrators integrate tech
-has worked with BYOD
-worked with state DOE to integrate tech
What would you ask?
SYNECTICS Visual Explorer
From the Greek meaning “the joining together of different and apparently irrelevant elements.”
Digital Visual Explorer
• Go to pics4learning.com
• Take 5 minutes and select a picture that interests you
• Form groups as directed by the facilitator
• Await further instructions
Visual Exploration ProtocolPerson 1 places picture in the middle of the group and talks about why it was interesting to them.
Person 1 responds to a common prompt that Chris will put up on the screen. This same prompt will be used by each team member!
Person 2 comments on what person #1 said
Person 3 comments what persons #1 and #2 said
Person 1 has the last word on what everyone said about their picture.
Person 1 removes their picture from the middle
Repeat steps 1-6 with person 2 and then person 3 in turn
Everyone places all three pictures in the center. Synthesize common themes, unique perspectives relative to the prompt and your work in schools. Prepare to share!
How is the image like your vision of how teaching and learning will be transformed when learning and technology are effectively integrated in your school?
1. Share why you chose your image
2. Respond to the prompt
3. Each group member comments in turn
4. You get the last word on your image
5. Remove your image from the middle
6. Repeat 1-4 with each person’s image
7. Place all images in the center, synthesize and prepare to share!
