AFRICA, ON AN EIGHT-NIGHT CRUISE ABOARD THE ELEGANT SEA CLOUD II.

From Naples, set sail for Lipari, largest of the Aeolian Islands and continuously

inhabited since Neolithic times. Dock in Palermo to view the gleaming mosaics

of the Palatine Chapel in the Palace of the Norman Kings and enjoy a private

tour of the Regional Gallery. Explore Segesta’s Greek temple and still-used

theater, and visit either medieval Erice or ancient Mazara del Vallo, founded

by the Phoenicians. In Agrigento, roam the largest collection of Greek temples

in the world; and in Syracuse, discover a prized Caravaggio painting inside a

church on Ortygia Island and visit a baroque palazzo for a private tour with

the owner, a Sicilian baron. Conclude with a walking tour in the hilltop village

of Noto, recognized by UNESCO for its honey-colored baroque buildings.

Disembark in Malta, where an optional two-night postlude is offered.
