ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT IMPACT AND OUTCOMES

More than 700 SMME’s were trained on business soft skills like: marketing

and financial management; tendering skills; source documentation and

effective management training skills; as well as export readiness; health

and safety; VAT and income TAX, and Basic Bookkeeping. Also including

training on customer care and selling skills.

34 SMME’s of the Steve Tshwete Municipal area to be assessed,

entrepreneurial training was provided and a one-on-one mentoring session

was provided to guide SMME in right directions and to establish way

forward.

More than 300 SMME’s were trained on computer literacy skills level 1 to

level 3.

37 SMME’s of the Steve Tshwete Municipal area were enrolled in a

mentoring and coaching program focusing on growing their business to

sustainable profitable enterprises.

Dinor Catering – “after trained with BLC I received contract with Green Side Colliery and created 16 full-time jobs and the

contract got renewed. Thank you Valerie for all the support and efforts in arranging the training sessions, it helps us a lot. Thank

you also for sharing job opportunities and tenders for our business”.

Mbamb’s Laundry – opened the business in 2006 and came to the BLC for business support. “BLC trained and mentored me

in order for me to see I’m focusing on the wrong target market. I changed my approach and now my business is expanding to

Emalahleni and I’m in the process of receiving a big contract from a local mine”.

Tropical Sky: - My name is Lizzy Mabena and my company name is Tropical Sky Trading cc. I registered my company with the

business linkage centre in 2011 ,I bought some tender documents from them of which I bid and managed to get a tender at

Columbus stainless steel. I’ m a registered company at Columbus data base and I do maintenance at the housing department

for them. I want to thank the Business linkage centre for making it possible for me to be one of the small business working for

such a big company Columbus without their help I do not think it would have been possible. I really appreciate Columbus

management for granting me an opportunity to work with them and I thank them their willingness to empower me as a business

woman and I hope I will get to a level where I can be the best woman entrepreneur in Mpumalanga.”

Feeding the hungry, is a MCCI initiative which will assist beneficiaries who cannot

sustain themselves and have limited access to food, with the specific emphasis on a

balanced diet. These CSI projects contribute to their Broad-Based Black Economic

Empowerment (BBBEE) scorecard and we also ensure that funds are spent locally

within our community and province. So the impact with continuous investments and

support from companies will ensure little by little we can overcome the poverty problem.

Focusing on balance meals as well as addressing protein deficiency in our community.

As Nelson Mandela said…. “Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity; it is an act

of justice. Like Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is manmade and it

can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it

falls on a generation to be great. YOU can be that great generation. Let your

greatness blossom. Is not an act, but a habit.”

SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FEEDING THE HUNGRY

• It has come to our attention that there are many hungry kids and families in our municipal area.

• Created project – feeding the hungry

• Local kids suffering from extreme protein deficiency and various other causes due to no or

limited access to food. (Sango Village)

• Food parcels (R360 per month for a family of four) are being bought and delivered to

beneficiaries in need of food.

• Cannot sustain themselves and have limited access to food, with the specific emphasis on a

balanced diet.

• Success to date fed more than 5000 beneficiaries – reliable access to the economy.

• Providing beneficiaries with education

• Decrease unemployment

Step by step giving a kid sustainable access to the market by completing

school and leave with a matric certificate and also can be employable

(SHORT TERM GOAL – EDUCATION) – addressing the unemployment rate

amongst youth (LONG TERM GOAL – UNEMPLOYMENT).

Middelburg Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Department of Education and Steve

Tshwete Local Municipality hosted the Local Annual Career Expo on 30 – 31 January

2013. The focus of the expo was on Gr 9 learners and Gr 12 learners with Mathematics

and Science. The purpose of the expo was to motivate the learners to become focused on

their future, and to choose subjects in accordance with their career choices. The expo was

a great platform to show learners that there is hope to reach their dreams, and that

through hard work they can further themselves to one day become a successful member

of the community. A total of 22 schools, with 4500 learners participated in this event,

which fundamentally confirms the great success of the 2013 Career Expo.
