CARISSADWYER

Welcome to the first edition of Mid North Coast Weddings Magazine. I am so excited to launch this magazine as it has been a long-time dream of mine since starting Mid North Coast Weddings 2 years ago. I am thrilled with the outcome but what astounds me more than anything when I flick through each and every page is the collaborative spirit that is so much a part of what makes our first edition great! I couldn’t have done this without the help and support of my fabulous team. My designer Jeff Cowan who just got my crazy idea right from the start and through his amazing talents helped bring my vision to life. Jeff and his beautiful wife Kelly gave birth to their second son Finn just as we started putting the magazine together and he still managed to create an awe inspiring magazine. My amazing stylists Ashley Evans and Hayley Dwyer who are two of the best stylists in the country, both mums, both have a natural eye and talent for creating inspiring and unforgettable styling shoots. Hayley is also expecting baby no. 3 early next year and so managed to do all of this during the dreaded first trimester.Lastly I want to thank the vendors who came together and donated their time and their products for each of our beautiful styling shoots. This magazine is for you and the all the other vendors who will join in the Mid North Coast Weddings community for future editions. With your help we have shown that the Mid North Coast still reigns as one of the best places on the east coast of Australia to hold a wedding. To our brides past and present, I hope you not only enjoy our first edition but are inspired to create the wedding of your dreams, after all that is what this is all about!

On holidays in Cairns for Kate’s birthday, both Nathan and Kate enjoyed a romantic dinner before taking a stroll along the esplanade. It was there that Nathan got down on one knee and proposed. Nathan had always joked that he would propose to Kate

with a plastic ring from a vending machine and he didn’t fail to disappoint, in his hand was a vibrant coloured plastic ring! The plastic ring was replaced with a real

engagement ring the next day but it made the moment all that more special.

Page 34: Mid North Coast Weddings Magazine Issue 1

T H E D R E S S-Kate’s dress was made by Irene Costa of Irene Costa Bridal in Cairns. Kate wore her mother’s veil that she had worn 30 years earlier; the lace detail around the edges of the veil matched the lace on Kate dress perfectly.

T H E C E R E M O N Y-Both Nathan and Kate wanted to get married in their hometown of Coffs Harbour. They chose Sapphire Headland overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean for their ceremony location. With their dog Dizzie by their sides, the couple exchanged their own vows under an arch adorned with glass bottles filled with white roses. Guests were given white rose petals to throw once they were announced husband and wife!

T H E R E C E P T I O N-The Bonville International Golf Resort in Coffs Harbour was the reception venue of choice for Nathan and Kate. With gorgeous views overlooking the golf course family and friends enjoyed canapes and drinks before sitting down to a divine two course meal. The tables were decorated with jars and bottles filled with roses and baby’s breath to compliment the vintage theme. The wedding favours were small bottles of homemade Limoncello made by Nathan’s Nona. A Photobooth, outdoor dance floor and live band kept guests entertained all night.

T H E P R O P O S A L-After a beautiful dinner at a Melbourne CBD restaurant Dane suggested we take a horse and carriage ride around the city. While we were riding through the Botanical Gardens Dane distracted me and pointed to something in the distance, and when I turned back to face him he was holding a ring and asked me to marry him! It was honestly the last thing I was expecting him to say on the night.

T H E D R E S S-To be honest, when I tried on my dress for the first time it was such a cliché moment, I was overcome with emotion, tears welled up in my eyes and I literally said to my mum and best friend “this is the one!” The detail that the dress designer put into making my dress, headpiece and bolero was amazing, and I was over the moon with the end result.

T H E C E R E M O N Y-Nadine and Dane had their ceremony at Roses Vineyard overlooking the lily pond and gorgeous Willow tree. Nadine’s mother surprised her with a horse drawn carriage to take her and the bridal party to the ceremony which was such a beautiful sentiment and a complete shock to Dane. Nadine and Dane wanted to keep the ceremony simple and heartfelt so they opted to write their own vows.

Nadine and Dane wanted to keep the reception casual, and encourage their guests to mingle and enjoy themselves, and not be restricted to a seat the whole night. They opted to have

a canapé style reception with tall tables outside on the grass overlooking the beautiful Roses Vineyard. Dane’s mother is a florist so she created all of the bouquets and reception

decorations which were birdcages filled with flowers. It was a really relaxed night full of eating, drinking and dancing.

T H E P R O P O S A L-We set off to Japan for a two week ski holiday in January 2013. After a day of trying to figure out why Lex was so nervous, it was midway through a snowball fight that night when he suddenly dropped to one knee and proposed to me! It was snowing heavily and very romantic. Lex completely surprised me and had chosen my gorgeous ring himself. It was great because we then had the remainder of our holiday to celebrate together before coming home and reliving it all with our friends and family.

T H E D R E S S-Like most girls, one of the highlights of being engaged was spending time with my bridesmaids and Mum to go wedding dress shopping! I felt like a princess and tried on so many amazing dresses. The choice was overwhelming and I eventually ended up ordering a dress online which was a little nerve-racking. It arrived, fit perfectly and I loved it! The brand was Jadore and the light material was perfect for our summer wedding.

T H E C E R E M O N Y-Our ceremony was amongst the vines of the stunning Bago Vineyard, about 20 minutes’ drive south of Port Macquarie. I was driven out in a 1950 Jaguar Mk5 convertible with my Dad. I was such a bundle of emotion that the drive felt very surreal and is a blur now. Walking down the aisle and seeing Lex and all of our friends and family was completing overwhelming! I felt so full of love and happiness and just felt like the luckiest girl in the world. We were blessed with perfect blue skies and ‘”Bella” by Angus and Julia Stone was played by our musician.

T H E R E C E P T I O N-Our reception was also at Bago Vineyard, and was a sit down meal which XS foods did an incredible job at catering. It is such a special moment in life to have a dinner party with 80 of your closest friends and family, and very humbling to think that they all made the effort to be there to celebrate with Lex and I. The highlight of the reception for me was definitely listening to my Dad’s speech which was a total tear jerker. Rather than a guestbook we had everyone sign a piece of Jenga which turned out beautifully and now we get to read all the messages as we play!

T H E P R O P O S A L-Jaimi-Lee and Patrick were celebrating New Year’s Eve in Forster Tuncurry. Patrick quietly left with a friend to prepare the location for the proposal. At a set time that Patrick had prearranged with Jaimi-lees girlfriend, she was thrown into the car, blindfolded and taken to the top of a lookout. Jaimi’s blindfold was removed, she was handed a lantern and instructed to follow the path, stopping along the way to read love letters Patrick had placed for her. To her surprise at the end of the footpath at the lookout, which overlooked the ocean, Patrick handed Jaimi a big box filled with her favourite flowers which had another box inside that held the ring. He got down on one Knee and asked Jaimi to marry him. Just as Jaimi-Lee said yes the Forster Tuncurry New Year’s Eve fireworks commenced. We stood arm in arm watching the amazing display light up the sky.

T H E D R E S S-I went shopping with my two bridesmaids. The dress was purchased at Violetta Bridal which was the 2nd shop we visited and the 2nd dress I had tried on. It fitted perfectly and purchased straight from the hanger. My dress was a floor length A line dress with a sweetheart neckline, made from delicate rebrode lace. Fully lined skirt with scalloped hem and train finished off with an Anna Campbell belt.

T H E C E R E M O N Y-We both love the outdoors, and all things rustic. Patrick is also African and we wanted to incorporate some African culture into our celebrations in Australia. Our Ceremony was held open air alongside the lake using our rustic theme with hay bales a rustic arch and bright cushions as they would use in Africa. Some friends gathered together and walked up the aisle African chanting and when reaching bride and groom united them by wrapping them in African cloth.

T H E R E C E P T I O N-The theme for our wedding was rustic with a touch of African. All the decorations were done by the bride, groom family and friends. The reception was held under an open air nomadic tent. Tables were set up under the tent and decorated with hessian placemats, and centre pieces were decorated glass jars with a variety of flowers/ candles. African paraffin candles and African mixed tea served as decorations as well as gifts for our guests. Multi coloured lanterns of all sizes hung from the roof of the tent together with fairy lights. Seating for the guests were milk crates each topped with a bright cushion. The handcrafted rustic timber bar displayed drinking dispensers and timber icebox stored drinks, Buffet tables displayed food and a stage was in place for dancing and where the African Drumming and entertainment took place.
