range of different systems to track their sales opportunities. In
August 2008, E&C sought the assistance of DWS Advanced

Government Department Develops First-Rate Web site against Strict

4-page Case Study posted: 09/21/2009 Views: 54
The Queensland Government’s Department of Public Works
(the department) delivers a wide range of services to the state
government and its agencies, including communication
technology. In late 2008, the Government asked the department
to develop an online register of war memorials in time for the
following Anzac Day commemorations. This required soliciting
detailed information about memorials from 75 councils,
including photographs and the precise location, then validating
the information, and publishing it on a new web site. Using the
Microsoft® collaboration tool, Office SharePoint® Server 2007,
the department successfully launched the online register on
time, integrating Microsoft Virtual Earth to pinpoint the
locations of 400 memorials. Four months later, the site had
1,000 memorials, and now attracts far more visitors than
forecast.

Leighton International is a subsidiary of the Australian Leighton

remote and inhospitable sites meant that mail and file servers
had to be located onsite. This decentralised architecture exposed
Leighton International to several liabilities. If a server became
inoperable, technical staff could take days to reach the project
site, during which time user access, mail and documentation
could be unavailable. In addition, the high-latency network link
inhibited effective offsite replication. In 2009, Leighton

based prescriptions. Due to issues associated with the paper-
based system, Fred IT Group sought a solution that could send
prescriptions electronically to reduce errors and improve patient
care. Fred IT Group engaged Microsoft® Gold Certified
Partner, Simpl, to develop eRx Script Exchange, an electronic
prescription solution built on the Microsoft Health Connection
Engine, including Microsoft® BizTalk® Server 2006 R2. With
eRx, GPs can send prescriptions electronically through a secure
gateway for retrieval by a patient’s pharmacy of choice
anywhere in Australia.

Medical Education Provider Simplifies Web-based Communication
Through SBS 2008
4-page Case Study posted: 08/27/2009 Views: 40
MediMark International is an independent Australian company
providing medical education programs to general practitioners
and specialist physicians. With the assistance of 20–50 temporary
managers, it delivers 2,000–3,000 courses each year that help
doctors stay up to date with therapeutic best practices. Although it
used a terminal server infrastructure, and its staff accessed email
via Outlook Web Access, MediMark International spent a large
proportion of its IT energies on employee support, as regional and
temporary staff struggled to set up their laptops to access
MediMark International systems. In January 2009, the company
upgraded to Windows® Small Business Server 2008 and
Microsoft® Office Outlook® 2007. Remote staff are now more
productive and spend less time requesting technical support for
email and file access, while MediMark International spends less
on technical support.

Teachers Health Improves Customer Service with SharePoint
4-page Case Study posted: 08/20/2009 Views: 136
Teachers Federation Health is a not-for-profit health fund
dedicated to providing quality health access for teachers,
educators and support staff. It employs 150 staff who service
more than 95,000 policy holders. With all procedures and policy
files stored on a single server, updating related documents was
cumbrous as staff couldn’t open multiple versions of the same
document at the same time. In 2008, Teachers Health transferred
its core files onto Microsoft’s collaboration platform, Windows®
SharePoint® Services 3.0. Team leaders were able to take
ownership for the most important documents in their departments.
Staff were able to share the development of new documents,
update old documents faster, and use automatic workflows to help
manage core business processes.

Rights management agency lifts productivity with an end-to-end ERP
4-page Case Study posted: 08/20/2009 Views: 93
Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) is an Australian copyright
management company that manages payment for the use of
content produced by its membership, which includes journalists,
publishers and authors as well as surveyors, artists and
photographers. However, sustained growth rendered the
company’s enterprise systems increasingly outdated and
inefficient. The company’s finances were supported by six
separate legacy systems and five reporting tools that required a
high level of manual data entry and produced low-quality reports.

Workflows Power New Courses at Vocational Education Institute
4-page Case Study posted: 08/20/2009 Views: 268
Box Hill Institute is one of Victoria’s leading vocational
education providers. Located in Melbourne, its four separate
campuses teach approximately 35,000 students each year. The
process for accrediting new courses with the Victorian
Registration and Qualifications Authority was complex and
subject to stringent regulation. The institute used hand written
forms which was slow, difficult to track and created uncertainty
around whether new courses would be approved on time. In
2009, the institute deployed Microsoft® Office SharePoint®
Server 2007, with electronic forms designed in InfoPath® Form
Services directed automatically to staff according to
predetermined workflows. Since the status of each file is
instantly visible, managers are in better control of course
accreditation, and have greater confidence that courses will be
promptly approved and available for students on time.
