Intro Microscope Lab Biology ISpring 2011 Dr. Berger Directions for Microscope Lab PART A 1) Pick up a lab packet from the desk at the front of the room. 2) Choose a microscope from the cabinet or bench in the back of the room and carry it back in the correct manner to your desk. 3) READ THE DIRECTIONS FOR THE LAB PACKET. 4) Without using the microscope, MAKE A WET MOUNT SLIDE. Make sure you clean the slide with a soft cloth or lens tissue and handle it by the edges to prevent fingerprints on the slide surface. 5) Follow the directions for making a wet mount slide. If your slide has any of the following, it will not be approved by the instructor: a. Excess water on the outer perimeter of the coverslip b. Excessive bubbles between the slide and coverslip c. Fingerprints on the slide 6) Before moving on to PART B, show the slide to Dr. Berger or Mr. O’Banion for approval and to initial your worksheet. PART B 1) FOLLOW DIRECTIONS 2) The instructors will initial your sheet for PART B ONLY when you have completed questions # 1-5 on the worksheet. PART C 1) Use a drop of water with some visible organic matter in it!! 2) When you believe you have found an organism to draw, have Dr. Berger or Mr. O’Banion verify that it is indeed an organism. 3) Draw the organism, labeling it properly. 4) Answer question #6 on the worksheet. Hand in your packet at the end of class. Make sure that your NAME and PERIOD are clearly indicated on the packet.
