Editorial MicroNotes With this issue, Marine Micropaleontology introduces a new section, MicroNotes, to appear occa- sionally, that will deal with issues, concisely and explicitly. In micropaleontology, issues of major and minor significance arise that are important to all of us. Some of these seem like relatively simple matters, such as our first MicroNote concerning the derivation and use of particularly com- mon words. These words have been used correctly and incorrectly in our field and this journal for years. Now we know. Other issues are major; for example, systematic philosophies used in micro- paleontology and their impact on our biostratigraphic, paleoceanographic and evolutionary work, are complex but might be dealt with in a concise and explicit manner. Many of us can think of such things that have vexed, confused or annoyed us over the years. Now, you can clarify the problem for all of us---write down your analysis and solution, and send it to one of us. Jere H. Lipps Hans R. Thierstein
