Field Work- Work activities occurring outside of the typical office, indoor meeting room or conference room setting.
Purpose- To protect employees from physical, biological, and chemical hazards on the job by establishing work place practices that reduce the risk from exposure to such hazards.

Portable Gas Monitor Check the
concentrations of gases in your breathing space
Field Safety for Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP)Facility Inspections- Become as
knowledgeable as possible about the facility’s past and current site conditions.
Hazards Awareness- review files, facility’s written safety and workers right to know program, types of equipment on site, chemicals stored on site, physical condition of site. Arrange to tour the facility with someone who is familiar with the site.
Expect the unexpected – Hilo, horns, noise, etc.
Facility Inspection
Be sure you are knowledgeable about the chemicals stored or in use and their major hazards.

Facility Inspection Confined Space – do not enter unless trained
as; supervisor, attendant, or entrant, and following procedures.
Is large enough and so configured that an employee can bodily enter and performed assigned work
Has limited or restricted means for entry or exit
Is not designed for continuous employee occupancy
Facility Inspection Confined Space – Permit Required Confined
Space Contains, or has the potential to contain a hazardous substance Contains a material that has the potential for engulfing an entrant (corn in
silo). Has an internal configuration such that , an entrant could be trapped or
asphyxiated by inwardly converging walls or by a floor which slopes downward and tapers to a smaller cross section (water tower)
Contains any other recognized serious safety or health hazard
Facility Inspection Confined Space – Non-Permit Required
Confined Space A confined space that does not contain, or
with respect to atmospheric hazard, have the potential to contain any hazard capable of causing death or serious physical harm.
Facility Inspection Confined Space –An industrial user should
not have an IPP monitor manhole/provision in a confined space. Put language in your Sewer Use Ordinance to prohibit this.
