Michelle Jakubowski named varsity girls volleyball coach at BHS

Long-time coach and educator steps to the court for Fillies 2014-15 school season

Michelle Jakubowski, an 18-year veteran of the area high school athletic ranks, will become head coach

of the Barrington High School varsity girls volleyball program beginning with the 2014-15 season,

following approval by the Barrington 220 Board of Education on June 17. Jakubowski comes to BHS

from Huntley High School, where she has been the athletic director since 2012.

Mike Obsuszt, Barringtons athletic director, said Jakubowski is an experienced coach whose

enthusiasm and passion for the game are perfect fits for the education-based athletic programs at

Barrington High School. Jakubowski succeeds former head coach Rob Ridenour, who had been leading

both the boys and girls varsity volleyball teams since 2011. Ridenour has decided to only focus on boys

    volleyball next season.

Jakubowskis Huntley teams were 149-75 in six seasons (2006-2012) and won three Class 4A

regional titles. Prior to Huntley, she coached at Lake Zurich (2000-2006) and Winnebago (1996-2000).She has more than 350 career victories. Jakubowski also played college volleyball at NCAA Division I

    Northeastern Illinois University.

Michelle will do a great job leading our girls volleyball program, said Obsuszt. Most

importantly though, she will continue to ensure we run a high-quality, education-based approach to the

    game.

At Huntley, Lake Zurich and Winnebago high schools, Jakubowski had experience on the court and

in the classroom. She held the positions of athletic director, mathematics teacher, dean of students and

varsity volleyball coach. She earned a bachelors degree in mathematics and secondary education from

Northern Illinois University and a masters degree in curriculum and instruction from National-Louis

    University.

I am very excited to become part of the tradition at Barrington High School, said Jakubowski. I

look forward to working with the students to help them become more successful in the classroom, on the

court and to help them be better prepared for life after high school.
