Part 1The Hunger Games; Rue’s Death.
We are analysing a scene in the Hunger Games where the character ‘Rue’ dies.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-ins2kYZqQ&safe=active
Story:• The Capitol of Panem hosts an event called the
Hunger Games where two "tributes" – a boy and a girl – are drafted from each of the twelve districts to be brought to an arena to fight to the death.
• Katniss's little sister is selected for the Hunger Games, so Katniss volunteers to take her place. Also selected is Peeta Mellark.
• They are then rushed to the Capitol, where they undergoes intense training, before being thrust into the arena to fight to become the victor of the 74th annual Hunger Games.
• Katniss teams up with Rue, a tiny girl from District 11 who reminds her of her sister Prim.
• Rue is killed around this time by one of the Career Tributes. Katniss honours her body by covering it in flowers.

•The clip falls into conventional narrative structure because it is linear.

The whole scene is organised in chronological order.
Is it being presented in segments, separated by changes in location or time?
No, the whole scene has been shot and set in one place, the camera does not jump between scene’s or cut to new scene’s.
Entire scene is shot in Forrest, there are no other scene’s or flashbacks present in the clip.
Is it being broken up or linked by graphics?
No graphics are used to separate this scene.
Is there a single narrative (even if different aspects in this narrative are being shown)? Or are multiple narratives being shown?
Single Narrative.
Katniss finds Rue.
District 2 member shots at Rue.
District 2 member is shot by Katniss.
Rue is shot. Rue dies.
Are there clear character roles and functions being established, such as a hero or villain? How does their role(s) connect to the narrative? HERO VILLAIN
ROLE/REPRESENTATION
THEIR FUNCTION • Create a sense of sympathy.
• Set the clear contrast between the villain and the hero.
• To show that audience the struggles the hero has to go through due to the villain.
• To give the audience someone to be weary of and dislike.
CONNECTION TO NARRATIVE
• Katniss is present throughout the movie, she is the clear hero from that start when she takes her younger sisters place to entre the games.
• President Snow is not the clear villain from the start, you only see he is the villain towards the middle/end of the movie.
