Michael Jackson never graced Forbes' annual Celebrity 100 list during his life. However in death, the so called King of Pop earned more in the past year than most other celebrities living or dead. The late Michael Jackson made more money over the past year than any other dead musician or actor. It was enough to secure Jackson the No. 1 spot on the annual Top-Earning Dead Celebrities list. With gross earnings of $275 million, he earned more than the other 12 deceased stars on the list combined. Still more impressive: His estate's 12-month haul was greater than the pooled earnings of this year's two biggest living acts. Jackson's posthumous earnings come from his stake in the lucrative Sony/ATV catalog, the hit Sony film "This Is It" and renewed fan interest in music, videos, and all things Michael Jackson. He has finally gained the recognition he sought during his life but there is one big problem, Michael Jackson is dead. An even greater tragedy for this celebrity, is that he died without any apparent faith in Jesus. If there was not a time in his life when he accepted Jesus as his Sav- ior and Lord, Michael Jackson is spending eternity away from God. All the riches of the world cannot buy him one drop of water today. Michael Jacksons music will likely keep selling but that cannot erase even one day in eternity without God. There really is a Heaven to gain and a Hell to avoid. Those of us who know Jesus have a responsibility to challenge others with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As believers, we have something far more valuable than all of Michael Jacksons estate holdings. We have a rela- tionship with the King of King and Lord of Lords that money cannot buy and it can never be taken away. That relationship will carry us through this world into Glory, Thankful for the riches on knowing Jesus,

But God proves his own love for us in that

while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

God’s love is a love stronger than we can ever imagine. When Jesus was on the cross, he endured all the sins of the world, including yours and mine. Even to the point of death, Jesus knew what He had to do. He saw our need and even though it meant He would die a painful death, He did it for us. The cross is a reminder of the price Jesus paid and a reminder of the freedom from death. Once our eyes and hearts are fixed on the cross, we can truly understand why we worship Him when we come to church.

Thankful for the cross,

- Jake
