1 2018 Leadership Series – Powerful and Positive Leadership Michigan AEYC is offering Powerful and Positive Leadership, comprised of three individual sessions. The series was developed and is being presented by Michelle Burkhard, owner of Grow By 1, LLC. Individuals may take one, two or all three sessions. The series is designed to help you understand the developmental process of leadership, assess your current skills, learn skills and processes to increase your abilities and skills, and receive feedback, over time, thereby insuring maximum learning and growth. All sessions include a leadership assessment, networking with leaders from across the state, questions and answers, and a new plan for growth. Participants who attend all three sessions will qualify for a 12-hour virtual training, with Michelle, at no cost! SESSION 1 GROWING LEADERS AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS A fast-paced, interactive session that sets the stage, highlighting the development philosophy of leadership, and a short assessment to gauge where you are currently in order to create a plan for growth. You will be engaged in large group, small group and individual activities, in addition to some lecture. This session will help answer the following questions – Why is positive leadership needed in early childhood? What is developmental leadership How can I make the most of my leadership position? Why should I have a plan for growing my leadership skills? What are pitfalls to avoid when leading others? How can I grow my influence and gain buy-in with others? SESSION 2 ENHANCING TEAMS TO MEET YOUR GOALS A further exploration of leadership principles related to getting work done and positive teamwork. A fast- paced session including lecture, group work, and individual reflection. This session will help answer the following questions – Why does staff behave the way they do? What can I do to get my staff to follow policies and procedures? How can I meet my desired outcomes? Why is my team dysfunctional and how can this be fixed? What does a powerful team look like? How can I foster positive teamwork? SESSION 3 EMPOWERMENT PHILOSOPHIES INCREASE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT The final session in the series focuses on deeper issues related to developing others. An equally fast-paced session incorporating lecture, group work and individual reflection. This session will help answer the following questions – Why is an empowerment philosophy important? What can I do to maximize each member on my team? How can I empower staff and create improvement plans that work? Why is high turnover and low employee engagement damaging our field? What are simple methods I can use to empower and keep my employees? How can I increase employee engagement and decrease turnover?

2018 Leadership Series – Powerful and Positive Leadership

Michigan AEYC is offering Powerful and Positive Leadership, comprised of three individual sessions. The series was developed and is being presented by Michelle Burkhard, owner of Grow By 1, LLC.

ABOUT MICHELLE BURKHARD – Michelle is the owner of Grow By 1, a business built to serve and increase clients’ ability to lead themselves and others. She holds a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Michelle is a Ph.D. student researching the study of how coaching influences the program quality of early childhood environments. Her passion is helping people reach their personal and professional goals. When not studying or serving others, she enjoys actively engaging at home with Josh, her husband of 15 years, and Josiah, Hannah and Elly, their three children.

DAILY SCHEDULE – Check-in, 9:00–9:30 am. Sessions begin at 9:30 am and end at 4:00 pm.

LEADERSHIP SERIES REGISTRATION FEES – Each session is a separate fee. Those registering for more than one session, at the same time with the same payment source, receive a discount. The fee includes lunch, resource materials, and the opportunity to earn SCECHs, pending approval.
