So you think you are approved...

There are two key approvals to look out for when purchasing alightbar.

e is the type approval which shows the product has been tested tocomply with EC directive 94/25. This shows the product will notinterfere in a detrimental way with the existing vehicle electrics andcause a possible safety problem. It is required for products fitted tovehicles in the UK and Europe

E is the type approval to show a product meets ECE R65. This isalways shown with the approval number itself. It shows the productmeets the requirement for ECE R65 and is required in most Europeancountries. It is required in the for vehicles operating under theHighways Agency Chapter 8 guidelines.

WATT's all this about LEDs?

You may think that a lightbar claiming to be Generation 3 LED isgoing to be as bright as the next Gen 3 LED lightbar. Not so, becausethere are so many types of Gen 3 LEDs. The LEDs in our products areGen 3 OSRAM LEDs which are capable of running to a maximum of 3watts each. Most other manufacturers are using 1 watt LEDs and inthe worst case far eastern imports may use 0.5 watt LEDs.

You can select on our lightbars to run the LEDs either at 1 watt or 3watts. If you need to save a lot of power running at 1 watt is better,but if it's extreme brightness you require for a priority vehicle thenusing 3 watt is better. All the lightbars come with a green boost wirewhich means you can change between the two modes at the flick of aswitch (hardwired only)

So you manufacture lightbars in the UK then?

Yes, all our lightbars are manufactured for us in West Yorkshire,England. We always say if you don't believe us that you shouldarrange for us to take you and show you around the facility.Manufacturing in this way means there is a robust production chainwhich is not easily affected by external factors such as exchange rate.

There are a lot of other manufacturers who claim to be UKmanufactured, but the reality is they manufacture in other countriesand simply assemble in the UK.

The MEGA-FLASHTM range of 5000 series lightbars offer exceptional brightness through the use of OSRAM 3 wattLEDs combined with linear lenses. These linear lenses spread the light over a vast area meaning there is excellentvisibility throughout 360 degrees.

Designed and manufactured in the UK they are built to the highest standard using UV stable materials. Approved toe11 (EC94/25) and ECE R65 (E9) means they are tested to exacting standards for EMC, light output, waterresistance and conformity of production.

Available in sizes from 27 to 195 cm there will be a s ize to fit your intended application. As ever with the MEGA-FLASHTM range, there is always the option to have a lightbar built to your exact needs, at no extra cost.

Each lightbar is made up of an end section and acertain number of centre sections. In order for thelightbar to comply with R65 you must order thelightbar with both end sections fully populated withLEDs, as shown in green.

The MEGA-FLASH traffic director offers excellent multi-use warning. It can function as a traffic director, but also includes the facility to operate in normalwarning mode, synchronising with every other compatible MEGA-FLASH product. It can either be produced as pictured above as a separate unit (TD-XX-EXT), or be incorporated into your choice of lightbar (TD-XX-INT). Normally produced in amber, the traffic director is an effective way of signalling to

other drivers the direction in which they can pass safely. Other colours are available free of charge.

The traffic director comes with the MEGA-FLASH standard five warning patterns of quad, triple, double, single and mega flash as well as arrow functionsfor left, right and centre out. When integrated into a lightbar it can be set to function as part of the lightbar, or separately as required.

The traffic director is controllable either by the traffic director control panel, or by your own choice of switch panel. You should contact us regarding theway the traffic director is controlled to ensure it is compatible with your switching method.
