Originally designed as principal workhorse

tractors for everyday use, the industry has

moved on but the MF 400 Series retains many

of the core values of their predecessors;

Ferguson System hydraulics, superb power-to-

weight ratio, simple mechanical transmissions;

easy, familiar operation and, significantly high

resale values.

The MF 400 Series also gives farmers a new

generation of EU-compliant tractors for a

wide range of applications.

And, like our heritage, our range grows

stronger all the time, as well as offering

platform versions, the MF 400 is now available

with a quiet, comfortable cab, complete with

heating and ventilation.

Equally at home as either the main tractor on

a smaller acreage farm or smallholding, as the

workhorse chore tractor on a larger farm or

in orchards or large greenhouses, the

Progressive, fade-free braking is provided bythe inboard, multi-plate, oil-immersed discbrakes. Hydraulically actuated, the brakesachieve excellent stopping power, with normalpedal pressure.

Hydraulic trailer brakes are available as afactory fitted option should they be required.

Both transmissions provide a good range ofworking speeds to operate economically andefficiently in a wide range of applications.And with the creeper gearbox option, even

specialist, low-speedapplications can behandled too.

Tough, high-capacity axles

The rugged, box-typefront axle of the two-wheel drive models,heavily reinforced atpressure points, is noless resilient than thefour-wheel drive option.

The rear axle’s strength widens the range ofapplications that can be tackled by the MF410, MF 420 and MF 430.

Sure-footed traction is ensured by thetransmission of drive through high speed, lowtorque halfshafts, with large epicyclicreduction units boosting torque to thewheels.

Available on the MF 420 and 430, the side-drive four-wheel drive option offers improvedtraction and braking, whilst maintaining anexcellent turning circle and ground clearance.

A steering angle of up to 60° on two-wheeldrive models and 55° on the MF 420 four-wheel drive gives a compact turning circle, somanoeuvring in tight spaces is never aproblem. And with Massey Ferguson’s famedhydrostatic power steering, control is preciseand effortless too.

A delight to drive

Being compact and manoeuvrable,with engines that give lots of low-speed pulling power and with light,positive hydrostatic steering, the MF 410, 420 and 430 are a delight tooperate. But don’t be deceived bythese nimble characteristics. Solidly-built and heavy enough to operatelarger implements, all of thesetractors can tackle heavier tasks in afarming or municipal environment.

High-performance engines

These modern engines have a host of featuresdesigned to improve performance and reducenoise and emissions.

The MF 420 and MF 430 benefit from having aturbocharger, giving extra power whilstmaintaining economy and durability, plus anadvanced cooling system for the engine,allowing more output with less strain.

Legendary linkage, powerful PTO part of ourheritage

Straightforward, but accurate linkagecontrol is assured on the MF 400 Seriesmodels thanks to the robust Fergusonhydraulic system.

First class lift capabilities derive from theunique Scotch Yoke pump at the core of thesystem, which supplies oil only when requiredby a hydraulic function. The three-pointlinkage is controlled by simple mechanicallevers, conveniently-positioned to the right ofthe seat.

The hydraulic pump supplies up to 53 litre/minat 175 bar, so there’s plenty of flow andpressure for either operating the three-pointlinkage or powering external equipment.

Tough PTO system

A rugged, no-frills, PTO is fitted on the MF 410 ‘live’ Series, with 540 rpm at only 1789 engine rpm.

On the MF 420 & MF 430, operationsrequiring frequent PTO engagement anddisengagement will benefit from the standardindependent system with drive to the PTOshaft controlled by a hydraulic clutch pack.

A control valve on the independentsystem allows gradual take-up of driveto the PTO shaft, protecting bothimplement and tractor from the shockof sudden engagement.

A great benefit of the platform version is thestrong, two-post ROPS frame, fitted asstandard, which can be folded quickly forworking in low buildings or any restricted-height situations.

Ease of operation is a high priority andclose attention has been given to thepositioning and layout of the controlsand instruments.

All the main controls areergonomically positioned aroundthe driver’s seat for ease ofoperation and accessibility.Theinstrument panel is clearly visiblefrom the seated position anddisplays all the informationrequired to operate the tractorsafely and efficiently.

Apart from the obvious operatorbenefits, it has been shown time andtime again that productivity increasesnoticeably when operator stress and fatigueare minimised.

The entire MF 400 Series features integralshields, which deflect engine heat and noiseaway from the operator, while substantial rearwheel fenders provide good protection frommud and groundwater.

Optional front fenders on 4-wheel drivemodels are available and pivot to ensuremaximum turning angle is always possible.
