Ring Cam general manager Sam Tzou said: ‘Customers love the product because they can keep the actual moment private, but they are able to share it with everybody afterwards.

‘Ring Cam captures the moment that only the proposer gets to

see – which from our per-spective is the most impor-tant. As that is the moment that the “groom-to-be” will remember for years to come.

‘Compared to the average price couples would have to spend on a secret photogra-

pher, not to mention wedding photogra-phers and video-graphers, our prod-uct is very affordable.’

You should CCTV the ring he gotWHETHER it be with a hand-me-down or a glitzy ring, the look on your partner’s face after popping the question is priceless.

Now, the once in a lifetime moment can be discretely recorded with the click of a button.

The €150 Ring Cam is a box con-taining a tiny camera that captures the proposal head-on.

It was developed by US students Scott Brandonisio, Scott Bahash, El-liot Barney, Rus-sell Fyfe, and Nick Haugen, all 23.

They came up with the idea last year when one of their friends strug-gled to find a way to secretly capture his proposal.

After a career that hasinspired artists, sculptors anddesigners, the Croydonsupermodel was persuaded by London restaurant 34 to provide them with a cast of herasset.

It has been used to create the‘34 Kate Moss Coupe’,described as ‘the ultimate inchic glassware’.

Artist Jane McAdam Freudwas commissioned to make the mould from Kate’s 34B left breast.

The result is ‘an intricate abstract design reminiscent ofArt Deco symmetry which, when held at an angle, showsa beautiful curvy shape.’

Madonna dumps toy boy lover Timor, 26MADONNA proved young love dies fast especially in her material world after she gave her latest toy boy the boot.

The 56-year-old queen of pop has allegedly given 26-year-old Dutch lover Timor Steffens his marching orders mid-holiday.

The fresh-faced dancer’s luxury run of seven months came to a screeching halt when he allegedly crossed the singer during their stay in the south of France earlier this month.

‘Madonna politely asked Timor to take his luggage and leave. He packed up and left the family trip and said they were done,’ a source revealed.

‘It was never serious, and she was never

that into it. She’s been working on her album, no time for anything heavy,’ her pal told Us Weekly.

Steffens was nowhere to be seen when Madonna rocked up in Ibiza this week, dressed in odd sun clobber.

Being dumped by the most famous pop singer on the planet was especially humiliating for Steffens as he had recently bragged about their romance.

Explaining he likes older women, he said: ‘There is an age gap between me and Madonna but I don’t notice it.’

Steffens is the latest piece of fresh beef on Madge’s scrapheap after her split from 25-year-old Brahim Zaibat about eight months ago.

UP TO 500 jobs on a massive motorway project should all go to Irish workers, not to ‘foreigners’.

That’s the view of Galway county councillor Michael Fahy, who warned that if construction jobs on the €550million Gort to Tuam motorway were to go to non-Irish

nationals, the money would ‘simply leave the country’.

Work on the massive M17/M18 project is expected to get under way early next year and Cllr Fahy

(pictured) said he wanted the jobs to go to ‘local Irish people and local Irish young men so that some might be able to come back from Australia, from Canada, England and other countries’.

A spokesperson for the Immigrant Council of Ireland described Cllr Fahy’s comments as ‘offensive and unacceptable,’ adding: ‘Some 17 per cent of those who call Ireland home were born in another country and are making a positive contribution to the economic contribution to the economic contribution to the economic recovery. We would ask Cllr Fahy to withdraw his remarks.’

Rail customers advised to make alternative plans

by AiLEEn DOnEgAn

COMMUTERS and Gaelic football fans are being advised to make alternative trav-el arrangements ahead of planned strikes at Irish Rail on Sunday and Monday.

The two-day work stoppage will mean no trains will operate in the country for August 24 and 25, disrupting travel to Sunday’s All-Ireland Football semi-final between Kerry and Mayo.

Dublin Bus, Luas and Bus Éireann will operate as normal.

The National Transport Authority con-firmed the train company will lose €500,000 in State funding if this weekend’s stoppage takes place, while up to €1.2m is in jeop-ardy if all five days go ahead. An NTA spokeswoman said it would withhold the funding as Irish Rail is ‘not providing the service’ if there’s a strike.

The industrial action follows an ongo-ing dispute between Irish Rail and un-ions Siptu and the National Bus and Rail Union, who have refused to agree on temporary pay cuts for staff that would see a 1.7 per cent reduction for staff earn-ing €56,000 or less, and up to 6.1 per cent from those earning over €100,000.

It was also confirmed that Irish Rail CEO David Franks will return home from holiday after it was revealed he would be in Mauritius during the strike.

Transport minister Paschal Donohoe Transport minister Paschal Donohoe Transport minister Paschal Donohoe said it was ‘extremely disappointing’ that the strike looks set to go ahead.

Albert Reynolds: ‘A politician deserving of his place in history’

‘Without Albert, it [the peace process] may never have started – ormight have stalled at an early stage– and Ireland, north and south, might still be enduring the violence that scarred daily lives for so long’ John Major, former British prime minister

‘He demonstratedintegrity, determination andgreat courage in hispursuit of peace at atime when it was so

necessary’ – John Hume, Nobel Peace Prize-winning former SDLP leader

‘The ability to act when it mattered,I think, is what stands out... If I wasto remember anything it would behis down-to-earthness’

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams

Former taoiseach Albert rey-nolds has been remembered as a courageous peacemaker, after he died following a long illness.

Taoiseach enda Kenny led tributes to the 81-year-old, who had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, for the risks he took to secure the peace process in Northern Ireland and the energy and drive he brought to economic growth in his roles as minister for industry and finance.

President michael D Higgins said mr reynolds was a dynamic minis-ter and a courageous leader. ‘It is ap-propriate that we pay tribute to his significant contribution to our con-temporary society,’ he added.

Former British prime minister John

major, who signed the 1993 Down-ing Street Declaration with mr rey-nolds, that paved the way for the Good Friday Agreement, described mr reynolds as ‘a friend he cher-ished and will miss’ and a politician deserving of his place in history. mr major said, the Irish leader ‘took risks to deliver a future for Ireland that many thought was impossible’.

Born in 1932 in rooskey, Co ros-common, mr reynolds was a show-band promoter before being elected to the Dáil in 1977 as a Fianna Fáil TD. He went on to become Taoi-seach in February 1992 in two coali-tion governments.

He served less than three years and, after controversies, includ-ing the X case and the Beef Tri-bunal, the mishandling of the ex-tradition of paedophile priest Brendan Smyth brought his time at the top to an end.

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams,

Northern Ireland Deputy First min-ister martin mcGuinness, former taoiseach John Bruton and Fianna Fáil leader micheál martin were among those who praised mr rey-nolds for his courage and crucial role in the peace process.

Bertie Ahern, who succeeded mr reynolds as party leader in 1994, said his predecessor’s role was a critical one in the road to peace.

‘If there hadn’t have been a Down-ing Street Declaration, I don’t think there would have been [an IrA] ceasefire in the first place,’ he said.

In a landmark symbolic gesture, mr reynolds instigated a public handshake between mr Adams and former SDLP leader John Hume fol-lowing talks in Government Build-ings in Dublin in 1994.

Former US president Bill Clinton said the world owes mr reynolds ‘a profound debt of gratitude’. He add-ed: ‘I will always be grateful for his encouragement, advice, and support in the peace process.’

Jihadis demanded€100m ransom forAmerican’s release

by TARiq TAHiR

Doomed bid by US forces to free pairA RESCUE mission to free JamesFoley failed when US specialforces could not find him, it hasemerged. Dozens of troops killedseveral militants in Syria but leftwithout Mr Foley or fellow USjournalist Steven Sotloff. One USsoldier suffered a minor woundduring the night-time raid earlierthis summer. ‘That mission wasultimately not successful because the hostages were not present,’ an official said.

Murdered: James Foley was executed by a British jihadi known as ‘John’

Picture: rOPi

A HOSTAGE who was held alongside James Foley by the Islamic State be-lieves he knows the identity of the Brit-ish jihadi who beheaded him.

Didier François was captured by the extremist group and locked up for seven months with his fellow journalist.

When asked yesterday whether he rec-ognised the killer in the murder video – nicknamed ‘John’ – the Frenchman re-plied: ‘Recognised is a very big word. I see roughly who it is.’

The 53-year-old said he was warned not to speak out by the IS after they re-leased him in April, or they would harm their remaining hostages – Mr Foley and fellow American reporter Steven Sotloff.

He said he was told: ‘If you make pub-lic the fact they are being held or that you were together, reprisals will follow against them’. Mr François added: ‘Their exact words were, “They’ll be punished”.’

He was eventually freed by the group after the French government reportedly paid a ransom to the organisation.

And last night it emerged the Islamic State had demanded €100million for Mr Foley’s release. The demands, under-stood to have been issued late last year, were sent in emails to the journalist’s family in New Hampshire.

During his time in captivity, Mr Foley was singled out for beatings after his cap-tors found his laptop pictures of his broth-er, who works for the US Air Force.

He was also subjected to mock execu-

tions, including one in which he was ‘crucified against a wall’, Mr François revealed. Paying tribute to his fellow captive, the Frenchman said: ‘He was an extraordinary boy – an extremely friend-ly companion, very solid.’

Meanwhile, the US Air Force carried out six more strikes on Islamic State fighters yesterday as they gave support to Iraqi and Kurdish forces.

A barrage from above helped troops to push the militants away from the Mosul Dam. The US is worried IS might blow up the dam, setting loose a tide of water that would flood parts of Baghdad.

The latest attacks bring the total to 80 to have taken place since the US got involved in the conflict.

HAMAS finally claimed responsibility for the kidnap and murder of three Israeli teens that sparked the Gaza crisis, as three of its senior commanders were killed in an Israeli air strike yesterday.

Senior official Salah Arouri told a news conference in Turkey the teens were killed to spark a broader Palestinian uprising.

A four-storey house was levelled in the attack in the southern Gazan town of Rafah that killed the three Hamas commanders.

The men played a major role in expanding Hamas’ military capabilities in recent years, including digging border attack tunnels, training fighters and smuggling arms, Israel said. A military spokesman said the attack sent a ‘clear message that we will strike those that have terrorised our communities, towns and

cities and we will succeed in restoring security to the state of Israel’.

Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the ‘superior intelligence’ of the Shin Bet security service and the military’s ‘precise execution’ of the attack. However, three others died in the 3am raid which killed Mohammed Abu Shamaleh (pictured), Raed Attar and Mohammed Barhoum.

They included the parents of Issam Younis, the director of a leading Gaza human rights organisation, who lived in a neighbouring property.

Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, said Israel ‘will not

succeed in breaking the will of our people or weaken the resistance’, and that it would ‘pay the price’.

Since the Gaza war erupted six weeks ago, more than

2,000 have died in Palestine, with 67

deaths on the Israeli side.

Awkward: Harry proves

he’s not a baby’s man

HARRY STYLES’S bid to impart his knowledge about the birds’n’bees to a young One Direction fan went off course.

The 20-year-old ladies’ man melted hearts when he plucked headphone-wearing Eric out of the crowd for a chat after reading a sign saying: ‘I’m here for my 3rd birthday!’

Styles asked Eric which one of the ladies in the Nashville crowd he wanted for a girlfriend, before realising his fan could be too young. ‘He’s looking at his mum. It’s gone wrong. It’s all gone wrong,’ he said.

He sent the youngster back to his mother’s arms saying: ‘Make some noise for Eric!’

Papa ROaCH have turned their backs on a life of ‘extreme excesses’ after going off the rails left

their music future in jeopardy. The Last Resort hitmakers told

Guilty pleasures exclusively how they were stuck in ‘limbo’ after their label, DreamWorks Records, folded in 2005.

‘I’d say there was a good four or five months where we thought it was over,’ lead guitarist Jer-ry Horton, 39, said.

‘There was a period after the sec-

ond album (Lovehatetragedy) where we were in this limbo. That was the same time as all of the excesses… I mean our

concept of reality was completed dis-torted.

‘I think those two

events coincid-ing really shook

the band up and made us really question whether the band would survive or not.’

although Horton ad-mits he was never the

‘wild party type’, the same couldn’t be said for his bandmates, Jacoby Shaddix, Tobin Esperance and drummer Tony paler-mo, in the past.

He said: ‘I’ve seen it in a couple of the other guys. They’ve gone to the extreme. But once we just decided in our minds to make music, no matter what the outcome was going to be, things worked out.

‘They’ve reeled [the partying] back a little bit. It’s cool for me because they’re a little more mellow and experienced now so it’s more of a kickback. I have to say Tony is and probably will always be the wild one in the band.’

US law chief: I have been victimised tooI KNOW why black people don’t trust the police, America’s top law enforce-ment officer said yesterday as he tried to defuse tensions after the shooting of Michael Brown in Missouri.

Eric Holder, the first African-Amer-ican to serve as attorney general, told community leaders in Ferguson he had experienced the frustration of being stopped and searched.

He said he had once been on his way to a cinema when an officer in a squad car flashed his lights and yelled: ‘Where are you going, hold it!’ On two other occasions, officers accused him of speeding before searching his

car – looking in the boot and under the seats. ‘I remember how humiliat-ing that was and how angry I was and the impact it had on me,’ he said.

Mr Holder said he hoped his visit would have a ‘calming’ effect on Ferguson, where the killing of 18-

year-old Mr Brown by white police-man Darren Wilson has stirred racial tension. There were signs efforts to engage with protesters were working as six arrests were reported on Wednes-day, down from 47 on Tuesday.

But trouble erupted in New York City where police took a man into custody during a demonstration held to de-nounce Mr Brown’s death.

A grand jury yesterday began hear-ing evidence before deciding whether Mr Wilson should be charged.

The protesters want St Louis prose-cutor Bob McCulloch to be taken off the case because his policeman father was killed while responding to a call involving a black suspect.

US doctor hails ebola cure as a ‘miracle’A DOCTOR who spent more than a week fighting for his life after contracting the deadly ebola virus has hailed his recovery as a ‘miracle’.

Dr Kent Brantly was discharged yesterday from Emory University Hospital in Georgia, USA, where he was flown for treatment after falling ill in Liberia last month. ‘Today is a miraculous day,’ he said.

‘I woke up feeling under the weather, then my life took an unexpected turn.

‘I never imagined I would be in this position.’The death toll from the ebola outbreak now stands at

more than 1,200 but Dr Brantly and fellow US aid worker Nancy Writebol, who was discharged on Tuesday, were treated with the trial drug ZMapp.

Williams finds resting place

ROBIN WILLIAMS’ youngest son allowed a brave smile to cross his face as he stepped out in pub- lic for the first time to honour his late father.

Cody Williams was comforted by friends at a memorial gathering for the actor as it emerged the star’s ashes were scattered across San Francisco Bay.

Pals with flowers and candles at-tended the private event with 22-year-old Cody outside the home of his mother, Williams’ second wife Marsha Garces. His siblings, Zak Williams, 31, and 25-year-old

sister Zelda were not pictured at the tribute. Earlier, the official death certificate revealed that the 63-year-old Mrs Doubtfire star was cremated the day after his suicide last Monday.

It said his remains were scattered in the waters off the coast of Marin County where the comedian and actor lived for 50 years. Cause of death was listed as ‘pending inves-tigation’.

His son’s touching farewell came as the showbiz world prepares to honour Williams at Monday’s 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards. Close

friend and Fathers’ Day co-star Bil-ly Crystal, 66, will lead the tribute. Show boss Don Mischer said: ‘We felt we needed to do something powerful and memorable. Billy seemed like the perfect choice.

‘While we are all still coming to terms with the tragic news, we are working to give Robin Williams the proper and meaningful remem-brance he so well deserves.’

Meanwhile, a source close to Wil-liams has told celebrity website TMZ that the actor was discussing several projects the day before he took his life.

If you don’t have skill for graffiti you should just buy a stencil

I just want to write in and regis-ter my overwhelming disappoint-ment with the standard of graffiti at Lansdowne Road. the draw-ings are really rubbish. there is

no depth, contrast, imagination nor complexity to the scrawls. the ambi-tion for the black drawing at the far end of the stadium seemed to be ‘how high can I reach’.

this is our national stadium lads, I mean you want something that is bold and dramatic, that leaps out at you in a 3D sort of way.

We have the Welsh, scots, English and the French calling in here to play rugby. I mean what do you think the French are going to say when they see ‘ANtO’ in black letters on the side of our stadium. I’ll tell you: ‘Buff Michel, I thought these Irish descended from Celts who drew cave pictures of great art with fine textures.’

It’s embarrassing lads. You need to practise in private and ask yourselves do I have a natural aptitude for graffiti, or should I stick to shop-lifting? I am afraid I’m at that age where if the standard of graffiti is not good

then I deem it to be defacing property.Any feckin’ eejit can spray their tag.

If you don’t have a creative skill may I suggest extra-curricular reading and research or, it troubles me to say it, but maybe buy a stencil?

On an unrelated note has anyone seen the beautiful fantastic Mr Fox in the Lansdowne area? Deuce 7

Get real! If Cillian O’Connor [Clobber Blogger, MH, thurs] thinks I have €589 to spend on a jumper he is seriously mistaken. Anyone who has is obviously earning too much or has won the Lotto. Could we not have some realistic examples, maybe it was a mis-print and should have read €58.90? Paul

the murderer of james Foley hides behind religion to rationalise the mur-der of an innocent person. What he demonstrates is not faith, but an indif-ference to humanity. And when any person cares so little about the sanctity of human life, they become a threat to every one of us who do get along, de-spite our differing points of view.

Harry tries a love spell

What if DanielRadcliffe played thelead in an Americanromantic comedy? That’s the punt takenby the makers of thisfilm, and despite adecent script it hasn’treally paid off. Theformer Harry Potter star plays Wallace, a Brit abroadin Toronto who falls for a localgirl called Chantry (Zoe Kazan).Problem is, she has a long-term boyfriend (Rafe Spall). Keepinghis romantic feelings to himself, Wallace enters the friend zoneand various awkward challengesensue at drunken parties andtrips away with their pals. WhileKazan does the kooky thing wellenough, Radcliffe looks ill at

ease playing the stammering, sensitive Brit. He’s proved himself an increasingly mature dramatic actor both on stageand on film, not least in lastyear’s Kill Your Darlings. Butcomedy timing doesn’t seem to be his thing. It’s left to the bestfriends (Mackenzie Davis andAdam Driver) to entertain –so at least the sideshow isamusing, if not the main act.

scarlett Johansson is no stranger to kick-ass roles: only recently she played a dangerously se-ductive alien in Under the

Skin. luc Besson’s new actioner casts her as the titular character, a party girl who evolves into a weird-ly powerful creature thanks to some seriously heavy-duty drugs.

american lucy is living in tai-wan when her new boyfriend forces her to deliver a suitcase to a Korean gangster. Kidnapped, she wakes up with a fresh scar and a choice: act as a drug mule or her family dies.

It seems there’s no way out – until the drug bag planted inside her bursts. Suddenly, lucy is filled with a new substance that helps her use untapped parts of her brain. Not only can she outwit her captors and escape but she can track the drug lords as well as a professor (Mor-gan Freeman), who’s been research-ing this kind of brain activity.

Sounds a bit bonkers? Well, it is. this is limitless meets crank meets a touch of cloud atlas, with a bit more Besson for good measure. this guy brought us la Femme Nikita and the Fifth element – not known for his subtlety but loved for his in-your-face action.

the first act has plenty of bang for your buck: it’s darkly funny watch-ing lucy swiftly strategise and take over technology with the power of her mind. there’s travel, fast cars and one-liners.

title cards tell us how much brain power lucy is harnessing: 20 per cent, 30 per cent, 40 per cent… the higher it gets, the more ridiculous and dumbed down it all seems. Her powers seem increasingly prepos-terous, while Morgan and his chums spout pseudo scientific theory as if talking to 12-year-olds. Flashbacks to the prehistoric age are original but seem at odds with the action-thriller tone.

Fans after a typical Besson movie should find plenty to enjoy here; those after a thriller about the power of the brain might want to rent limitless. Anna smith

ALsO OuTfilm reviews

Remember those old-school disaster movies where a group of townsfolk gather together to survive against the odds? This US tornado movie has plenty in common with them, including stereotypical characters and dialogue. But it also features up-to-the-minute visual effects – and what a difference that makes.

Richard Armitage stars as Gary,

a frowny vice principal. As he and his school prepare for graduation, a group of professional storm chasers head their way, keen to capture an incoming tornado on camera.

Naturally, among their number is an attractive woman (Prison Break’s Sarah Wayne Callies) and a self-serving grouch, Pete (Matt Walsh). As the storm chasers close in, so does the mega-storm and everyone’s whipped up into a frenzy, if not a tornado itself.

No disaster movie cliché is left unturned – think last-minute rescues, self-sacrifices and potential lovers facing the end. But despite the wooden dialogue, it’s gripping stuff – even if you can

guess the outcome. The tornado itself is the star,

whirling and throwing vehicles and buildings into the air with menace.

A formulaic but fun big-screen experience.

Richard brophy

With the first world war being widely commemorated and dissected this summer, staging George Bernard

Shaw’s play about England on the eve of the conflict would seem a timely choice.

And Róisín McBrinn’s production is a competent one that coveys a respect and sensitivity to Shaw’s original, without any recourse to gimmicks. the problem is that Shaw’s original, in this case, is a lengthy, unwieldy work (with a running time of approximately three hours) that groans under the weight of its own worthiness.

Shaw has much to say about the state of England in 1914, but you have to wonder if he could not find a more elegant, devastating way to say it than in this dramatic behemoth.

Unsurprisingly, it is one of Shaw’s lesser performed works – it compares poorly with, for instance, Major Barbara, also produced at the Abbey earlier this year, which made serious social comment in a much, much pithier form.

heartbreak house begins with a series of characters arriving at Captain Shotover’s chaotic country home, many of whom fail to

recognise each other – a belaboured attempt to convey the instability of a dysfunctional pre-war England.

Despite a beginning that already seems overburdened with symbolism, the play then develops into what seems more like a Wildean farce of mistaken identities and reversals of lifelong assumptions, salted with the occasional aphorism.

the young Ellie (Lisa Dwyer hogg), engaged to a middle-aged industrialist Alfred Mangan, arrives to discover that the man she is really in love with is married to her friend hesione hushabye (an excellent Kathy Kiera Clarke), the very woman who is trying to persuade her to end her unromantic but financially prudent engagement.

this strand of the play involves much debate about marriage as women’s main life strategy in a time when there were no other career options – a fascinating subject, yet the editorialising manages to smother any sense of drama.

this is not the fault of the cast, who give fine performances – particularly Mark Lambert as the breezily mad Captain Shotover and Don Wycherley as Mangan, a capitalist with a strangely strangulated

(indeed almost robotic) vocal delivery. But despite their best efforts, there is

something utterly unsatisfying about heartbreak house, a politically engaged play that manages to be unfortunately unengaging as a piece of theatre.

the final 30 minutes are particularly dense with speeches – you could sense the first night audience flagging – i don’t think i’ve ever seen a more firmly seated ovation when the end finally came. I once coached an impressive client who told me that if he did not get to partner level in his firm by 40 it wouldnot happen. What scared me is that Ifigured his analysis of the situation may actually be correct. I firmly believe we can in some way contribute to avoidingageism within our career by adoptingsome clever strategies and by knowingwhat we are in control of when itcomes to this. So here are some tips:Learning ensure you remain open to learning new things, avoid allowingyour skills to get old and expired.Non-Coasting Avoid coming across asbeing set in your ways – demonstrate you like to learn, take on new challenges, get involved in projects.Remain Active Demonstrate evidence of an active lifestyle and that you are physically fit. This will also help prove you also have energy to move jobs.Salary realism Be aware that thelonger you have worked in a field themore expensive you become, simply by yearly increments. Demonstrate what your extra experience will give the employer. You may also need to

consider a marginal salary cut.Manage dates on YOUR CV Review your education section – take outLeaving cert results if more than 15years back. Avoid putting a date undera degree from the 1960s or 1970s.Maturity and experience countsYoung inexperienced workers do nothave sufficient life experience, orknowledge of workplace dynamics.Focus on what you can control Acceptthat some workplaces will not changetheir hidden policy on ageism.

Ryanair launches nine new routes from the capital

RYANAIR has introduced nine new routes from Dublin.

The airline has extended its Dublin winter schedule for this year, includ-ing routes to Basel, Brussels-Zaven-tem, Bucharest, Cologne, Glasgow, Lisbon, Marrakech, Nice and Prague.

That brings Ryanair routes from the capital to 60. There will also be in-creased flights on 21 existing routes to and from Dublin Airport

The Dublin to Brussels-Zaventem route will operate three times daily from October, a complement to the Dublin to Brussels-Charleroi route.

An additional 850,000 new Ryanair customers per year will bring its Dub-lin passenger numbers up to 8.4mil-lion per annum in total.

Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary said: ‘Our nine new Dublin winter routes with multiple daily frequencies are ideal for business customers.’

Niall Gibbons, chief executive of-ficer of Tourism Ireland, said: ‘To-day’s announcement is more good news for tourism to Ireland this year.

‘We already work very closely with Ryanair and we look forward to co-operating with them to maximise the promotion of this new service to Dublin.

‘As an island, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are abso-lutely critical to achieving growth in visitor numbers.’

Facebook deadlinein web privacy case

FACEBOOK has been given four weeks to reply to a class action over online privacy.

A court in Vienna has told campaigners behind the lawsuit they have passed the first step in their David v Goliath battle against the social network. Lawyers leading the challenge revealed 25,000 users from

outside the US and Canada have signed up to support the case and another 35,000 have also registered support, and are claiming €500 damages per supporter for alleged data protection violations by the social media giant.

The action is being taken against the Irish subsidiary of the New York-listed company owned by Mark Zuckerberg (pictured) for tracking internet users’ activity on external sites and its analysis of users through ‘big data’ systems.

Facebook has four weeks to reply but can ask for an extension.

In-form McIlroy is off to a bad startgOLf Rory McIlroy endured a nightmare start to his bid to make it four wins in a row as he reached the turn in a four-over 40 before picking up a shot on the way back in the first round at The Barclays. The world number one came into the first leg of the four-tournament FedEx Cup play-offs as a hot favourite following victories at the Open Championship, WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and US PGA Championship. But his form deserted him during the early stages at Ridgewood Country Club as he registered a double-bogey on the 12th, his third hole, and followed that with bogeys on the 13th and 18th to leave him last of players on the course.

Running third and fourth, and with 20 laps of the race remaining, the differing strategies forced the pit wall crew at Mercedes into what was later described as ‘a panic’.

One-man show won’t see kerry beat Mayo

Boss Eamon Fitzmaurice insists All-Ireland title hopefuls Kerry don’t view James o’Donoghue as their new Colm Cooper.

Kerry face Mayo in sunday’s first semi-final, a year on from when Cooper gave one of the great Croke Park displays in their epic clash with Dublin.

o’Donoghue is the man the King-dom will look to for inspiration this time around as the ‘Gooch’ remains sidelined with cruciate trouble.

All-star o’Donoghue has done a terrific job of leading Kerry so far with ten points in the Munster final and 1-5 against Galway last time out.

But Fitzmaurice (pictured) said there’s no such thing as a like

for like swap when it comes to the gifted ‘Gooch’ and

insisted everyone has to chip in if

they’re to beat Mayo.

‘James has taken on a bit of a leadership mantle but I’m sure that if Colm was there then James would still be playing the same way,’ said Fitz-maurice. ‘I don’t think anyone views it as one replacing the other.

‘If James had Colm firing in bullets to him, he could only benefit. so I don’t think it’s as easy as calling one a replacement. Colm was al-

ways seen as the talisman up front for Kerry and James is definitely filling that role in terms of being a talisman for us this year but they are different players in a lot of ways. The bottom line is you need everyone on fire to beat a side like Mayo.’

Pundit Martin McHugh claimed after o’Donoghue’s 1-5 haul against Galway that he’s actually better than four-time All-Ireland medallist Cooper.

‘Look, the less said about it the

better,’ responed Fitzmaurice. ‘It has got plenty of coverage and we won’t be feeding it.’

The former Kerry defender ac-cepts o’Donoghue will be a marked man when they face a Mayo side that hasn’t beaten Kerry in the Championship since 1996.

But he’s not concerned that the back-to-back All-Ireland finalists may double team their best player.

‘If they do decide to double mark James, we will have a spare man

somewhere else and we can get the most out of that man,’

claimed the Munster title-winning manager.

‘But Mayo are a team that like to focus on their own game plan. They are going to take into account our strengths but I

don’t think they are going to be

o v e r l yparanoid a b o u tus.’

Having been sent off in losing one, and missing two others through injury, Pat Sullivan hasn’t had a huge amount of luck when it comes to Fai Cup finals.

While he makes a return to Shamrock Rovers tonight with First Division leaders Longford

Town, the cup may again be something of a sideshow in the overall scheme of things this year as Sullivan and his team-mates’ main concern is promotion.

and record 24-times winners Rovers, despite not having won it since 1987, being warm favourites to progress to the quarter-finals, sits easy with Sullivan..

‘There’s no pressure, but that’s something other people put on your team,’ said the 31-year-old defender (pictured playing for Rovers), best remembered around Tallaght for his stunning goal against Partizan in Belgrade which

helped secure a first ever place for a League of ireland side in the group stages of a European

competition in 2011. ‘We want to go and win, we’re not there to

do anything else. ‘OK, we lost on

Saturday,’ added Sullivan of their 12-

match unbeaten run coming to an end against galway last week. ‘But we were a team winning games and nobody wants that to end. When you lose you want to bounce back and that’s what we want.

‘Our priority is to get promoted, but that won’t come easy and we’ll have to work for it, just like we’ll have to work (tonight).

‘The games where you have to work the hardest, if you can get a win, they are the most satisfying games. So that’s what we’re looking to do.’

IaIn Moody’s resignation could further damage Crystal Palace’s bid for Premier League stability, according to the club’s caretaker manager Keith Millen, writes Cyrus Pundole.

Moody resigned as Palace’s sporting direc-tor yesterday, amid allegations of sexism and homophobia against him and Malky Mackay during their time at Cardiff.

The Football association has confirmed an investigation into a dossier of allegations submitted to the governing body by Cardiff City bosses.

Mackay was all set to be appointed Tony Pulis’ successor at Palace, until news of the Fa investigation broke.

Millen admitted Moody’s departure could unsettle Palace further, as the club seeks a replacement for Pulis, who left on the eve of the season.

‘Iain was brought in to do a job to recruit and scout players, and Iain was experienced at that job,’ said Millen, admitting Moody’s departure leaves a chasm at selhurst Park. ‘The chairman will now have to look at that situation, to see whether he wants to bring someone in.’

Palace’s managerial search is back to square one after Mackay was ruled out, with Chris Hughton now among the contenders.

Millen is keen to take on the role full-time

Ancelotti had given little away about Di Maria’s future before confirming yesterday: ‘Di Maria asked to go in the summer and has rejected an offer from the club. The player has to look for a solution.’ Fellow Real man Sami Khedira (left) has been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea but Ancelotti said: ‘It’s a different situation to Di Maria. He’s not asked to go. HULL goalkeeper Allan McGregor was left red-faced after his blunder gifted Belgian side Lokeren a first-leg advantage last night.

The Scot inexplicably passed the ball straight to Hans Vanaken who smashed it into the net ten minutes into the second half. It was tough on McGregor who made a couple of fine saves either side of the goal.

ERIK LaMELa produced a sparkling cameo from the bench to haul Tottenham to a comeback first-leg win against aEL Limassol.

an injury-disrupted first sea-son meant Lamela managed a measly three league starts last term having been billed as Gareth Bale’s heir.

after a decent display in the season-opening win at West Ham, spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino threw Lamela on after 72 minutes in Cyprus with his side behind to an early adrian sardinero goal in their Europa League play-off.

Within two minutes he had provided the assist for Roberto soldado’s exquisite first-time leveller and six minutes later he set up Harry Kane to secure an unlikely 2-1 win.

and Pochettino is confident the club’s record signing can now find consistency.

‘It is never easy in the first season for a player from an-

‘He was injured, too, and we are confident with him that with time and hard work, like he has done in pre-season, that he can go far.

‘He was very disappointed about last season but the past is the past. We need him to look forward, believe in his skill and condition and work very, very hard.

‘With confidence and time he will show his value.’

Lamela twice came close to capping his impressive display with a goal in the closing stag-es and is in line to start sun-day’s match against QPR.

Business as usual in O’neill’s Euro squad

Strong defence a must for Horan as Mayo take on the KingdomBack in 1996, when Mayo last beat kerry in a championship game, James Horan inspired victory with one of the great croke Park goals.

Taking advantage of a mix-up from a kerry kick-out, the half-forward seized the

moment and lobbed the ball back in over Declan O’keeffe to the kerry net.

it was a famous moment in time, though if Mayo are to earn a repeat win over the kingdom 18 years on, Horan believes it will

be more about avoiding goals going in than scoring them themselves.

now in charge of Mayo, the back-to-back all-ireland final manager has noticed a worrying trend of leaky defensive play from his side this year.

They conceded a late 1-3 which almost cost them in the quarter-final win over cork and as far back as the

allianz League Horan (pictured) was slating his defence for being ‘way too open and way too naive’.

‘it’s definitely an area we need to look at,’ admitted Horan. ‘For 50 minutes of the

cork game, we conceded very little so we were doing a lot right up until that.

‘But we did take our foot off the gas and give ourselves a breather. When you’re facing a top class team, that’s enough for momentum to change and cork certainly took their opportunity.

‘That’s something we are obviously looking at and we

will work very hard to try to adjust and be better.’

kerry forwards like the in-form James O’Donoghue, Paul Geaney and the O’Sullivans are capable of ripping Mayo asunder.

‘i’m sure kerry are having similar conversations about cillian O’connor, kevin McLoughlin, aidan O’Shea, Jason Doherty, all those guys,’ said Horan.

‘They are playing very well and scoring very well as you saw from our spread of scorers against cork. We have scorers from everywhere, we don’t depend on one guy.

Republic of ireland boss Martin O’Neill sprang no surprises when he named a provisional squad for his first competitive game in charge.

O’Neill’s initial 36-man party will be whittled down ahead of the open-ing euro 2016 qualifier in Georgia on September 7 with a friendly against Oman in Dublin four days earlier handing him a final chance to assess his options.

He said: ‘i have had the opportunity to work with the players since last November, and we are well prepared as we embark upon the first of our qualifiers next month.

‘Oman will provide a good test to start our trip before we travel to Tbi-lisi. We are focused on the task in hand, and look forward to the chal-lenges ahead of us.’

There are no uncapped players in O’Neill’s latest squad, but he will also be without veteran defender Richard Dunne, who announced his retirement

from international football during the summer.

The party includes former first-choice goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, who has returned to club action after joining Sheffield Wednesday follow-ing his release by Sunderland at the end of the last campaign.

O’Neill has confirmed that los An-geles Galaxy striker Robbie Keane will remain his captain.

ireland, who failed to qualify for last summer’s World cup finals when they finished fourth in their group be-hind Germany, Sweden and Austria, have been handed a tough challenge once again this time around.

They have been drawn into Group D with the Germans, the new world champions, Scotland, poland, Geor-gia and Gibraltar.

BALOTELLi pREpARing TO fiLL SuAREz’S LivERpOOL SHOES

LiVERPOOL are gambling £16million to bring the crazy world of Mario Balotelli back to the Premier League.

ac Milan appear to have decided the striker is more trouble than he is worth, having taken a £3million hit on the £19m they paid Manchester city last January.

But, having coaxed the best out of Luis Suarez, who scored 31 goals in 33 league games last season, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is preparing to replace one controversial striker with another.

Balotelli said his goodbyes to

his ac Milan team-mates yesterday and told the italian media he was returning to England.

Liverpool had been trying to find a marquee striker to replace Suarez, after the Uruguayan’s £75million move to Barcelona in the wake of a four-month ban for his latest biting offence.

The Reds started the season short of strike partners for

Daniel Sturridge despite the summer signing of Rickie Lambert.

The move for Balotelli suggests Rodgers has admitting defeat in his attempts to sign Monaco’s Radamel Falcoa, while interest in former chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o has cooled and a deal for Loic Remy collapsed after the QPR player failed a medical.
