REPRESENTING THE INTERESTS OF BUSINESS WITH GOVERNMENT

The Greater Bakerseld Chamber of Commerce works to promote a healthy business environment in which employers and entrepreneurs can ourish and help

create jobs and economic vitality. These, in turn translate into a better quality of life for everyone. It is with this goal in mind that the Chamber strives to represent the

interests of the business community with our elected representatives.

The above voting record is a small sampling of the thousands of bills that legislators vote on each year and does not completely depict all of the possible business

votes our legislators made during the 2010 Legislative session. However, the above voting record does show how our legislators voted on issues that the Chamber

identied as important due to their potential impacts on the business community. While we may not always agree on all issues, the Chamber enjoys a good working

relationship with all of our state representatives and we look to strengthen these relationships in the years to come. This chart was compiled using information from the

    Legislative Council's website at leginfo.ca.gov.

    of the Quarter

    Steve Bohn,Principal Financial Group

I have met a lot of great peoplethrough the Chamber. Some have

become clients, many of them I have

referred my clients to for services

that I do not provide. The Chamber

has been great for my clients and

    my business.

Since joining the Chamber in 2005, Steve

Bohn has been actively involved with the

    PROMOTING OUR COMMUNITY

    www.facebook.com/bakersfieldchamber

The Chambers only fundraiser will have a whole new look and feel beginning in

2011, that starts with moving it from August to springtime each year, April 14 for 2011.

Formerly known as Summer Social, we obviously now need a new name. Send your

ideas for Summer Socials new name to [email protected] by Friday,

January 7th. The winning idea (received rst if duplicate suggestions) will win 4 tickets

to the 2011 event, valued at over $100.

We are also looking for sponsors to support this fundraising event in 2011. Gold

($5,000), Silver ($2,500) and Bronze ($1,000) sponsorships are available. Contact Pau-

line Bartlett at the Chamber at 327-4421 for more info or email,

    [email protected].

    Name that Chamber Fundraiser

    and win!

As 2011 begins along with the task

of preparing tax returns for 2010, the

Chamber reminds members that 93% of

their dues investment is deductible as a

    business expense.

Based on changes in federal taxes that

took effect January 1, 1994, Chambers

must inform members that the portion of

    their membership dollars directly attrib-

uted to lobbying or inuencing legislative

or administrative action is not deductible

as a business expense for tax purposes.

GBCC dues invoices include a state-

ment that 93% of dues is deductible.

Youve joined the Chamber to meet other Chamber members.

You want them to become your customers and to send referrals

to you - the kind of referrals that bring repeat business for you,

    year after year.

To get those referrals, Chamber members will need time to get

to know you, to have confidence in you.

And what better way for them to get to know you than by

spending an hour or more in a small group setting over a

    relaxing business lunch?

...why not spread the word about you and your businessat the same time? Well set it all up for you.

Each week, youll have the opportunity to go to lunch

with two or three different Chamber members. Youll be

the only one in your profession at the table.

Well make the reservation for you and provide a map to

the restaurant. Well even provide you with information

about your lunch partners beforehand, so that you can be

ready with some brilliant questions for them over lunch.
