Maybe you have, too? It’s not too late. Sacrilegium is a black metal band from Poland that was active from 1993 to 2000. They say that some 13 years went by until they got started working on new music again. I have heard the 1996 album “Wicher” and it sounds good and everything, but I did not really understand it and I did not get much of an impression from it. Maybe I found it too abstract or perhaps I was not ready for it. Whatever the case may be, I did not like it very much. Strike one. I have heard another recording that was experimental in nature: “Angelus.” I think that I recall some industrial aspects to it. I don’t remember much from it because it was too strange or I was not ready again (I work slowly). Given that the grand total of industrial bands and albums that I have in my collection is a sum total of 0 (big fat zero), my reaction was predictable. Strike two. It's three strikes and you're out. Here we go

with the third attempt at bat, and did they strike out?! No, it’s a homerun! Third time's the charm. This is more like it! They brought the goods and I’m riding this thing until the wheels come off.

This album is traditional black metal and what an album it is! Since they are from Poland, and since many people have stereotypes about extreme metal bands from Poland, I'd like to tell you that Sacrilegium sounds nothing like some Polish bands, such as Vader, Hate and Behemoth. Whereas the famous Polish bands are known for loud, chugging, thick guitar sounds, Sacrilegium is more direct, less disguised: you can hear the guitar work clearly because this band is all about the riffs. Sure, they play fast, and all that, but this band wants you to hear the actual work, and not just the loudness. The black metal guitar tone allows for hearing what's going on. The riffs, the tremolo and the melodies are all there at front and center. That, and the maniacal vocals that twist and turn, rage and scream, and put it together in an album and we have the Sacrilegium album that I was hoping for. Now let me tell you the best part of all: the songs are memorable. It’s black metal, but this is professional, not a demo nor a garage rough work. You can hear the drums. You can hear the melodies. You can hear the tremolo

well, hear well the thrashy riffs, too. The songs have plenty of speed and punching power, but they also have quite a bit of black metal melody. The result is an album that I have heard many times now and it gets better every time. I probably surpassed 10 listens days ago, so I don’t know what number I am on now. I stopped counting. OFFICIAL INFORMATION Sacrilegium was formed in early 1993 and Nantur (vocals) and Suclagus (guitars) have remained the core of the band throughout the years. Sacrilegium’s first demo “Sleeptime” came out in 1994, released by Pagan Records in Poland and Wild Rags Records in the United States. It was followed by full-length album “Wicher” in 1996, again released under the wings of Pagan Records. The same year saw the release of ”Jesienne szepty” – a split with North, released by Black Arts. In 1998 came another demo - ”Recidivus”. The next year Sacrilegium reappeared with a new line up to play several concerts. They recorded a new demo ”Embrace the Darkness”, only to split up in 2000. Thirteen years later the paths of Nantur and Suclagus crossed again, and the band has reemerged with a line up dispersed across Europe. The band has been

making the news rounds lately and they also have been playing some shows in anticipation of the new work which features returning vocalist Mike Howe (1988-1995). The new formation teased the supporters with a new version of an old classic from 1989 called “Badlands 2015.” The song back in the day was a hit for the band and it was also a video that many people saw. Metal Church has a quite a legacy with an enviable discography and long history. As the new album approaches, it’s a good time for the young and the young at heart to find out about this beloved name for metal supporters in the Pacific Northwest and for others around the world. Below you will find an official history of the band for those that don’t know much about the band and you will also find the relevant links to learn about the new album.

OFFICIAL BIO: Born out of the West Coast Metal scene of the 80's, Metal Church quickly became one of the standout talents of the genre. After signing a deal with Elektra records, they released two critically acclaimed albums. Their self-titled release "Metal Church" postured the band as one of the pioneers of the thrash/metal

scene. The All Music Guide had this to say about the debut: "The band's incredibly tight musicianship is a highlight all on it's own. This album remains an overlooked classic of straight-ahead American-bred heavy metal." With the heavy metal scene starting to rise in the U.S., Metal Church set out on a very successful tour with label mates Metallica.

Next came "The Dark," the fury of its opening track, "Ton of Bricks" was championed as one of the premier metal releases of the 80's. The Dark also led to one of a few lineup changes with the departure of vocalist David Wayne. However, more success was yet to come. With the addition of former Heretic vocalist Mike Howe, and Metallica guitar tech extraordinaire John Marshall, the riffing became heavier and the subject matter deeper. They tackled political and social issues of the day with the releases of "Blessing In Disguise" and "The Human Factor." At a time when heavy metal bands moved from the underground and became part of the hair band/pop fad, Metal Church stayed true to their roots. During the mid 90's, the members of Metal Church headed in their own directions. Kurdt Vanderhoof worked on his namesake project,

Vanderhoof, while Kirk Arrington was playing on various sessions including a recording with Sir Mix-A-Lot. 1999 led to a well-received reunion of the original Metal Church lineup with the release of "Masterpeace". The band went back to their classic sound and played several festivals overseas. 2004 saw them back with a new vocalist, whose style has been described as "Rob Halford meets Dio", as well as Jay Reynolds (Malice) on guitar and Steve Unger on bass. With a new record "The Weight of the World" and some new blood, heavy metal legends Metal Church picked up where their aptly titled last release "Masterpeace" left off.

In 2006, twenty years after their cult album "The Dark", Metal Church presented their brand new release, "A Light In The Dark", forging a creative arch that skillfully links the band's past with the present. Ten new tracks, (plus a new version of the classic "Watch The Children Pray", a tribute to original frontman David Wayne), document the development of a band that, despite all innovation, has never denied it's typical trademarks. That lineup consisted of Kurdt Vanderhoof, Ronny Munroe, Jay Reynolds, Steve Unger and new addition Jeff Plate on drums. "Jeff is an

incredibly dynamic and professional drummer," Vanderhoof points out. "He has propelled us to a musical level that surprised even ourselves." Plate has replaced Kirk Arrington, who left the group for health reasons, and proves a real stroke of luck on "A Light In The Dark".

In 2008, guitarist Jay Reynolds was replaced by Rottweiler guitar player Rick Van Zandt. This Present Wasteland, Metal Church's ninth release, is a return to their roots and contains some of their strongest material to date. In 2013 the band released the highly successful "Generation Nothing” but by 2014 singer Ronny Munroe had left the band to pursue a solo career with his girlfriend. In 2014 founding guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof convinced Mike to rejoin Metal Church. “Sometimes I still can’t believe it myself, no one would have ever thought Mike would return after his departure almost 2 decades ago” says guitarist and founding member Kurdt Vanderhoof. “At first I struggled with the decision to come back, but after hearing the riffs that Kurdt was writing, I just couldn’t resist, the music called to me and I wanted to be part of it!” says Mike.

Mike Howe originally joined Metal Church in the late 80’s and released 3 albums with the band: “The Human Factor”, “Blessing In Disguise” and “Hanging in the Balance”. Mike was also the face of group’s popular music videos “Date With Poverty” and “Badlands” that aired during MTV’s heyday. “Mike’s voice sounds the same as it did 2 decades ago when we were writing “The Human Factor” and the band is about as tight as you can possibly get!” says Kurdt. Kuusinen recorded Into The Formless Dawn after the demise of his previous outfit, Pain Confessor, which left him sat with a wealth of material and no available vessel. Coupling this with his rage and disappointment in humanity in general as his motivation, Kuusinen might not have made the most polished record of all time; but he’s certainly made one that is focused and absolutely furious. There’s no hint of respite on Into The Formless Dawn; instead, it’s a work that focuses on an intense dichotomy between light-speed riffing and twin guitar harmonising." In an interview with The 20 Question Quiz, A Soul Called Perdition explains the mentality about music: "I honestly have lost touch of current events in music almost completely and have instead reconnected with a lot of the stuff I listened to when I was younger. My absolute favorites still are Sentenced throughout the Jarva-era, GWAR, W.A.S.P., all cheesy 80s fun-loving hard rock and glam metal, early 90s black metal and death

metal." BIO: A Soul Called Perdition came to being during 2013-2014 when Finnish melodic death metal band Pain Confessor slowly descended into hibernation, or death. Their guitarist Tuomas had a full length's worth of material almost ready and there was no sign of it ever being utilized so he went on to finish the songs and bring them out as a full length self-released album, which materialized as "Into The Formless Dawn". Eight songs about outrage towards all the malicious acts human beings are capable of committing to each other, not turning the other cheek, losing a part of your essence, love that defies even the flames of a pyre. Says the man: "This album is a farewell to my brothers in Pain Confessor, farewell to the band that has held my heart and soul for over a decade.
