izAs OnE Of THE busiEsT
venues in the UK, 2011 was
perhaps our most ambitious year
with the launch of the Edwin
Street Recording Studio and
September’s Ramsbottom Festival.
Our consistently busy and varied
programme reflects the support
of our audiences who attend
from throughout the northwest
and give us the opportunity
to improve our programme,
deliver more projects and play a
bigger role in our community.
In such difficult times I would
like to make a special mention to
our funding partners, corporate
partners and individual donors for
seeing the potential and value
we bring to Bury and continue to
invest in our work. In December
we welcomed Mill Gate Shopping
Centre as a new corporate
partner and look forward to
working with them this year.
This season’s brochure is
packed with new ideas and new
projects, including a jazz school,
a clowning course, Stride dance
for young men and a bigger and
better Big Whistle Festival.
As always your visits and support
are what allows us to continue
to develop – we hope to see
plenty of you for some great
events through the season.

Wednesday 1 february 7.30pm
£8 / £6 concession & members
Paris 1945. Christiane waits
for a ticket to England that
will reunite her with her
fiancé. While she waits, this
irrepressible mademoiselle
recounts the love story
between her – an eccentric,
acutely-myopic Parisian – and
a tongue-tied English teacher
from Staffordshire. From a
chance encounter at Cheadle
tennis club, their story takes
us on to cosmopolitan 1930s
Paris before their inevitable
separation by war. A separation
which she hopes, today, will
finally come to an end.
A tender, comical and
ultimately poignant
portrayal of one woman’s
experience of love and war.

Love is blindClown to Performance
Wednesday 8 & Thursday 9
february 8pm / £5
The Commedia dell’arte were
the wonderfully comical figures
of 16th century Italy. They
argue, fight then fall in and out
of love in a world full of envy,
love and revenge. Their playful,
physical style provides us with
many sources for contemporary
comedy and clowning.
Using these ingredients The
Met’s clown workshop group,
led by Gerry Flanagan, have
created this performance based
upon a 16th century scenario.
See the Classes & Workshops
section for information on the group.
