President's Message-From the Desk of the President
I am pleased to write this letter for the THIRDedition of the AEV magazine'tor 2014. I waspleasantly surprised and pleased to see myarticle on Grounding and Ohm's Law in theAEV. Grounding and why it is done is prob-ably one of the most misunderstood things ina car's electrical system. I hope my article wasa help to anyone who read it. I also wrote anarticle on a 1956 Hudson equipped with anAmerican Motors Weathereye heater air con-ditioning system. I was able to recharge theac system with refrigerant and word from theowner is that it is still working. Both of theseafticles took very little of my time and I wouldencourage anyone in CHVA to consider doingone. There was a time in past years whensome six issues a year of the AEV were pub-lished thanks to members writing articles.
I am very excited to inform you that CHVA isnow on YouTube with the first day of the 2014National Tour. This now opens the door to awhole new world for CHVA and the possibili-ties are endless. By using YouTube we solveseveral problems at the same time. YouTubesolves the problem of different formattingissues between Apple and Windows comput-ers. Using YouTube any computer will see theentire video with no problems. A simple link ison the CHVA website and just clicking on thewindow will play the video. You may also justgo to YouTube and just type in 2014 CHVA
Tour and it will come right up. So this reallyamounts to double exposure for CHVA. Mythanks to Judy O'Byrne for doing this videothat I was able to figure out how to uploadto YouTube. This only took thirty minutes ofmy time.
This brings me to another idea that I have. Why not use Social Media to help promoteCHVA? I ran an experiment with my old Kodakdigital camera and discovered that it will doa 15 minute video (most videos on YouTubeare limited to fifteen minutes) with sound. I
then downloaded a free mov to mp4 converter(mov is what my Kodak camera saves filesin and mp4 is a common video format thatYouTube will accept). Again this took very littleof my time. How about something like shorlinterviews of CHVA members talking abouttheir experiences on CHVA Tours? Sort of likeadvertising using word of mouth. These videoscould then be uploaded to YouTube and puton the CHVA website using a link just like the2014 National Tour Video.
I have been working on finding someonefor our open Board position to no avail. lf any-one has any desire to serve or knows some-one who might consider running please let usknow.
I will leave you with those thoughts. Keepthat old iron running and remember that if itis at all possible, consider driving your classiccar on tour.
