Trout-In-the-Classroom (TIC) Program

As mentioned, the Arizona TIC Program has rapidly increased overthe past three years. In 2015 there were 3 schools, 17 in 2015 andfor the 2016 - 2017 school year 29 schools are participating. Of the29 schools, the Zane Grey Chapter is responsible for 20 schools. On August 13th, 45 teachers and volunteers attended a day-longworkshop to prepare for the upcoming school year. Aquariums, equipment and water levels were set up awaiting the arrival of 100rainbow trout eggs for each school on September 21st.

As planned, eggs were picked up at the Sterling Springs Hatchery inSedona early on September 21st. ZGTU volunteers were stationedat five various locations in the Phoenix metro for the pickup of theeggs and delivery to the schools in the afternoon while classes werein session. It was an exciting and successful day for all involved.

Information on the 29 participating TIC schools throughoutArizona can be seen on the map at TIC Schools.

The question that comes up most often is "Where do the eggs comefrom?" The short answer is "They are shipped from Ennis, MT viaFed Ex!". For more details we encourage you to watch the AZGFDvideo which you can find in later in the newsletter.

Additional information about TIC is available at www.aztic.organd TIC Facebook.
