I did notice the sun is setting a little later everyday, and everyday is a day closer to spring. And just think the 10 th of this month our days will get even longer. Don’t forget Spring ahead 1 hour for Daylight Savings Time. Yippee!! I can’t help but daydream about the great days to come when we can all get on the road for what will seem like endless days of rid- ing. I know all of us look forward to spring. For many of us March is the month of anticipation. So, anticipate this. We’ll have our hopes up for a good St. Patrick’s day ride. As many of you know, St Patrick’s Day is on Sunday March 17 th , however our ride is Saturday the 16 th at 4pm. Think Green and think warm. You can contact Steve Geary regarding the plans for the St. Pat’s Day ride. It is on the March Ride calendar. You know how I found out? I looked on our web page. We should all give a big shout out to Steve Geary and Shirl Boatman for our new and improved web site. They have both worked very hard to improve our website and keep the content fresh. Their hard work shows the minute you visit www.jolietbicycleclub.com I for one love how easy it is to navigate now. Thanks Steve and Shirl!! A couple of things to look forward to in March. Our outstanding VP Dominick Chellino is putting together a JBC hike and pizza. The date, location and after hike festivities will be announced soon. The second item, that I’ve really been looking forward to is an entertaining presentation by Janae Hunziker and Conrad Brouwer of their June 2018 trip from Portland, OR to New Lenox, IL. The presentation will be at the New Lenox Library Meeting Room. The time and date will be announced soon. With all this going on, I hope everyone will join me in the anticipation of a great start to spring, and soon we’ll all be enjoying the long summer days of riding. Message from the President Hello Fellow JBC Members,

Does anyone see some light at the end of the winter tunnel? I did

notice the sun is setting a little later everyday, and everyday is a

day closer to spring. And just think the 10th of this month our days

will get even longer. Don’t forget Spring ahead 1 hour for Daylight

Savings Time. Yippee!!

I can’t help but daydream about the great days to come when we

can all get on the road for what will seem like endless days of rid-

ing.

I know all of us look forward to spring. For many of us March is the month of anticipation.

So, anticipate this.

We’ll have our hopes up for a good St. Patrick’s day ride. As many of you know, St Patrick’s

Day is on Sunday March 17th, however our ride is Saturday the 16th at 4pm. Think Green

and think warm. You can contact Steve Geary regarding the plans for the St. Pat’s Day

ride. It is on the March Ride calendar. You know how I found out? I looked on our web

page. We should all give a big shout out to Steve Geary and Shirl Boatman for our new and

improved web site. They have both worked very hard to improve our website and keep the

content fresh. Their hard work shows the minute you visit www.jolietbicycleclub.com I for

one love how easy it is to navigate now. Thanks Steve and Shirl!!

A couple of things to look forward to in March. Our outstanding VP Dominick Chellino is

putting together a JBC hike and pizza. The date, location and after hike festivities will be

announced soon.

The second item, that I’ve really been looking forward to is an entertaining presentation by

Janae Hunziker and Conrad Brouwer of their June 2018 trip from Portland, OR to New

Lenox, IL. The presentation will be at the New Lenox Library Meeting Room. The time and

date will be announced soon.

With all this going on, I hope everyone will join me in the anticipation of a great start to

spring, and soon we’ll all be enjoying the long summer days of riding.

The 2019 JBC 4th of July Century is well into the planning stages, and all the pre-planning “stuff” has been completed, or is in the works. The ride format will be the same as last year – all the riders will ride from Plainfield South HS to Plattville, then - depending on the miles they are planning to ride -ride between 0 – 3 loops, then return to the High school. Culvers will once again be supplying ice cream in the registration area for all the 4th riders to enjoy. Tee Shirts Shirl Boatman, the JBC N/L editor, has volunteered to be the tee shirt designer for this year. As in 2018, we will be posting the tee shirt designs on Google Groups (GG) for the members to “vote” on which tee shirt design we will use. Expect to see GG e-mail with the tee shirt designs sometime in March. The design will be posted on our web site after April 1st. We will be using the same supplier as in 2018 (Life Behind Bars Cycling), and the same poly material. Volunteers We are still in need of a 4th ride Chair for this year. Anyone with any interest, but not sure of the responsibilities, feel free to call or e-mail and we can discuss. This year is looking great for volunteers for the Captains’ positions – they are all filled. YEA!!! This year Brent Radomski volunteered to take care of the food purchasing and distribution. Kudo’s to Brent. We normally need between 50 and 60 volunteers to keep the ride moving smoothly – let’s keep the JBC 4th ride the best in the area by pitching in and helping out! We will have a volunteer sign-up sheet at the Chili Bowl. Please contact with any questions or comments: Steve Mitoraj 630-417 7962, or jbc4thride@ gmail.com Click here to go to our website for more information. Captains

Door County Ride—July 2019

It’s that time of the year to think about next year’s Door County Trip. The

trip will run from Saturday July 13th through Saturday July 20nd. Now

is the time to start making plans/reservations for next year’s trip. We

will all be staying in or near Fish Creek. Each individual is responsible

for their own lodging arrangements during the JBC Door County Trip.

We will be riding Sunday the 14th through Friday the 19th. Saturday Ju-

ly 13th and Saturday July 20nd will be travel days.

This event is open to members and guests. Guests will be charged $20 for

the event. Each day there are two or three ride options ranging in miles

from 30 to 60.

We will be sharing more information about the trip once the date gets

closer. We do hope that everyone that plans on attending makes their res-

ervations really soon. July is a very busy time of the year in Door Coun-

ty. So book as soon as you can.

If you have any questions please give Jim

Lambert a call at 331 330 6119 or send Jim

email at [email protected].

Happy Biking everyone!

St. Patrick’s Day Ride—March 16, 2019

Coming Soon!

The St. Patrick's Day Ride. Saturday, March 16, 2019

Where?

Hickory Creek Brewing

1005 W Laraway Rd, New Lenox, IL 60451

Ready to Roll @ 4:00 PM

This is a theme ride where the participants dress for the occasion and decorate their bikes with lights (start decorat-ing your bikes now). Double Miles will be awarded to the cyclist with the brightest lights. There will be several celebratory stops along the way between the New Lenox and Frankfort areas. This is a Rain or Shine event. In the event of poor weather, we will use other forms of transportation. You're welcome to join even if you don't ride your bike (but then you'll be missing the best part). This is a JBC tradition you'll not want to miss! It has been said that participating in this ride can bring you "Good Luck" for the upcoming riding season. Please RSVP to,

Steve Geary 815-474-3713 [email protected]

Steve Geary and Rob Weiss joined Pussanee and I for a fabulous hike in The Dells Can-yon of Matthiessen State Park. Great Frozen and half frozen waterfalls were a sight to see. Footing was treacherous even with Kathoola Microspikes as there was lot of bulletproof Ice that the spikes struggled to grip. Check out the round disks of Ice floating in the river, anyone have any idea how they form?

Then, there was the Riv-er walking, watch as everyone tries not to break through the Ice and have their feet fall through to the river be-low. Overall, it was a great hike with a great group. The concentra-tion level needed caused our blood alcohol levels to dip to a dangerous-ly low level....which we remedied immediately post hike at The Tangled Roots Brewery. See Highlight compila-tion here: Matthiessen Ice Hike You can't be out of hope while you still have beer. Thanks George
