Messages From The Management

Room Booking PolicyWith renovations to the Clubhouse in full swing, we are seeing a dramatic increase in the need for rooms and spaces by residents and groups. As it stands now, rooms have been booked by individual groups for a specific day and time frame.

It has come to our attention that many of these groups are comprised of a minimal number of residents, which are not suited for the room they have booked. Management has taken the steps to divide the Magnolia Room and will begin booking the Magnolia Room on both sides and closing the dividers. This will allow more residents to utilize the Clubhouse during times of high demand.

Management will also increase the number of room dividers we own, so that rooms such as the Craft Room and PAC can also be divided to accommodate more residents. In essence, we are making every effort to make sure all residents have equal access to rooms.

We hope that this new operational policy will also limit the number of times when groups will be bumped or cancelled due to special meetings, or BOD related events. By sharing the Clubhouse, both management and residents can coexist and share spaces, which with the beautification of our Clubhouse, are in increasing demand.

Bill Berthold, CHA, CCM, CAM

Chief Operating Officer/GM

Resident DirectoriesJust wanted to let all resident know that the 2011 resident directories are available for pick up at the front desk. Anyone who wishes to pick one up is asked to please visit the front desk during normal operating hours.

Environmental Issue CommitteeA very important issue was raised at our last Florida Friendly Landscaping day. It was soil sampling, why you need it and how to do it. The most important fact residents need to know is our Pasco County Cooperative extension Service is a valuable source of info for your landscaping issues. They do recommend soil testing if you have an area of lawn that is not growing as desired. So I am enclosing a link for a copy of the sample form and it comes with instructions and price list. I hope it will help those who have been plagued by issues year after year and not getting the right results or answers from their lawn companies. You will be able to access the links for the form and also for cooperative extension service.

Please take some time to look over all the valuable information. It covers many areas that will impact your life and home to make more energy efficient with their useful hints, also info on storm preparation can be found on their website.

Resident Lifestyle CommitteeThe Pre Kentucky Derby Party was quite a success and a lot of fun was had by all. Several residents requested we conduct another Day At The Races in the fall. The committee is looking into a date either in October or early November. The ladies and gentlemen outdid themselves with the hats this year. There were some very spectacular hats but this year the winner was a gentleman. The judges felt Joe Miller's hat was extremely clever and very appropriate for him.

During the committee’s May meeting a resident, Pat Delamer, presented an interesting lifelong learning program (OLLI) to the committee, which she and her husband, John, had been involved in at the University of Dayton (Ohio). The idea is to find people, perhaps within our community, with expertise in a specific subject who would facilitate learning sessions for fellow residents. These sessions would perhaps run 4 to 6 weeks and could be on subjects such as wine tasting, cooking, history, literature, dance, travel, etc. The committee was very intrigue with the idea of setting up such a program at Heritage Pines. We all felt just because we are retired our brains should not be. If this seems like something you might be interested in doing, would be interested in leading a session or have a subject you would be interested in learning more about, please contact Lynn Aigotti (727-862-6505) [email protected]. For additional information you can Google OLLI

Update on Financial Results

5/12/2011

For the first four months of this year, the Association had operating income of $197,730. This means the Association's revenue was higher than its expenses by that amount. The operating income or surplus of $197,730 was $101,264 better than budget.

Year to date revenue through April of $1,507,520 was $69,560 higher than budget.Golf, Food & Beverage and Other revenue were higher than budget by $11,031, $47,099, and $11,430, respectively. Assessment revenue was flat with the budget.

The new expanded bar has been a major success with residents. Alcohol sales to residents are 41% higher than last year. The new bar is also helping to drive more restaurant business. For example: food sales to residents are up more than 17% over last year.

Introducing an additional day of tee times in our golf program has helped to increase daily fee resident golf revenue by 24% over last year. Guest revenue is higher than last year by more than 17%.

Year to date expenses through April of $1,309,790 were $31,703 less than budget. Payroll and related benefits were under budget by $13,322. All other operating expenses were $18,381 less than budget.

The Association's net assets (total assets minus total liabilities) have increased by more than $3.5 million since the end of 2008. As mentioned in a previous management report to residents, the Association has generated an operating fund surplus of more than $500,000 since 2008. For comparison purposes, the Association had a budget deficit in 2008 of more than $80,000. The surplus generated in 2009 and 2010 was reinvested into the clubhouse to help fund the expansion projects. Any surplus generated this year will be used to help fund the cost of the kitchen expansion project planned for next year.

The Association's cash balance as of April 30, 2011 was $1,802,604 of which $945,091 was operating cash and $848,513 was in the reserve fund.

The Association is in a strong financial position.

As always, if I can be of any assistance please feel free to contact me on any Association issue.

Bill Berthold CHA, CCM, CAMChief Operating Officer/General Manager.

Update On The Clubhouse Construction/Repair/Expansion Projects

5/05/2011

As most of you know, the construction projects for the new expanded bar, the expanded fitness center, the restaurant expansion and the remedied pool defects are now complete. New furniture and fixtures for the bar, restaurant, the pool and the lobby area have been purchased and installed. The installations of new bathrooms adjacent to the billiards room and an office for the Association's facilities manager have also been completed.

Major repairs and replacements have been completed on such items as the clubhouse roof, stucco, lobby windows and all doors (except the lobby doors which will be replaced and upgraded in the next few weeks).

The renovations to the fitness center bathrooms are almost complete. It is expected they will be operational soon. The water fountain in the fitness center will become operational again when the fitness center bathrooms are complete.

The clubhouse expansion project has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of June. When completed, the clubhouse will have a new woodshop room, a new resident conference/meeting room and additional office space.

The total cost of all of the above completed projects amounts to $1,288,000 of which $968,000 was paid from the general reserve fund and the remaining $320,000 was paid from the operating fund.

The total cost of the unfinished projects is estimated to be $932,000 of which $555,000 will be paid from the general reserve fund, $94,000 from other reserve funds and $283,000 from the operating fund.

For comparison purposes, Miller Dodson issued a report last year indicating the Association should plan to spend $1,073,000 from the general reserve fund for repairs/replacements in 2010. Miller Dodson is the firm on which the Association relies to estimate future repairs and replacement expenditures from the general reserve fund for the next 30 years. The Association spent $1,089,000 in 2010 or $16,000 more than the Miller Dodson report. For 2011, the Miller Dodson report suggested spending $930,000 from the general reserve fund. The Association's plan is to spend $920,000 in 2011. This means the Association's current general reserve spending rate is in line with the Miller Dodson report.

Residents contribute $30 of their monthly assessments to the general reserve fund. The remaining $145 goes to the

operating fund. The $30 monthly reserve assessment for 2010 and 2011 is currently sufficient to fund future repair and replacement expenditures. The $145 monthly operating fund assessment has generated a surplus for the Association of more than $500,000 for the years 2009 and 2010. The $500,000 surplus was generated by your management team's efforts to reduce expenses and increase revenue wherever possible. The surplus was used to help fund the cost of the expansion projects. As a result, there were no assessment increases and there were no special assessments required to fund all of the construction projects described above.

The Community/Memorial Tree Program provides the opportunity for our residents to purchase a tree in memory of a loved one or friend. Trees may also be purchased to honor a person or because you wish to donate one in your name to beautify our community. Prices vary according to the type and size of tree. Residents may choose a general location for a donated tree which can be on the golf course, along the main boulevard or in other areas of the community. The final placement of each tree will be approved by our golf course superintendent, Tommy Land. Trees will be planted during the months of March/April and October/November. Please plan your purchase during the preceding months.

A map showing the location of all donated trees is located in the hallway by the Magnolia Room. The Community/Memorial Tree Program is headed by Linda O'Leary. Please contact Linda at 819-9207 for pricing information.

A book is being kept at the front desk of the Clubhouse in which residents can look through for the many trees planted throughout the community. Each page includes the name of the honoree(s), sponsor(s), tree location, and type of tree. This book will remain at the front desk for all of the community to view.

Sponsored by the Golf Advisory Committee.

Who Said The King Is Dead?Photos courtesy of Leon Silberman

Ask The TechieQ: I am connecting a Wireless Router to my home network so I can use my laptop from anywhere in my home. It was easy to connect and seems to be working fine. However, a neighbor suggests I enable security. What does this mean and why is it necessary for someone living in Heritage Pines?

A: I highly recommend enabling wireless security. Even though we live in a secure community, we are vulnerable to outside parties accessing our computers and laptops remotely. There are free programs available on the Internet that may enable someone to record your Internet activity possibly learning your login names and passwords.

In addition, if your network is unsecure a neighbor or anyone with a wireless antenna can access your Internet connection without your knowledge. There was a recent case, in New York, where an unsuspecting individual was visited by the police who traced a pedophile to their Internet connection. The shocked individual was proven innocent and the pedophile was eventually captured. It was determined that the pedophile was using the unsecure connection from a quarter of a mile away.

To secure your wireless connection, follow the manufacturer instructions to enable Wireless Security and select a Security Key. This key should be something other than your email or other passwords. It is used the first time you connect wirelessly and recorded. You will need to

provide this key to any visitors with laptops, smartphones, iPads or other Wi-Fi devices. If you have Verizon FIOS, Wireless Security is already enabled and the Security Key is printed on the bottom of the modem/router.

Q: Whenever I close my laptop as I move to a different location in my home the computer turns off requiring me to power it back on. This is very annoying and I would prefer that it not do this. Can I change a setting to stop this?

A: Yes, you can easily change the setting that is causing your computer to go to sleep when you close the lid. The setting you want to change is found in the Control Panel | System Settings in the Power Options Section. Change the “Choose what closing the lid does” setting to DO NOTHING for both the ON BATTERY and PLUGGED IN choices.

While in the POWER OPTIONS section you may also want to review and possibly adjust the POWER BUTTON, DISPLAY and PUT THE COMPUTER TO SLEEP settings. These settings are usually set to optimize battery life and may not be convenient for your situation.

SAVE OUR GOLF COURSE

As much as possible and practical, please keep golf carts on cart paths, especially around all tees and greens. Also follow the “4 Wheel Rule”. Always make sure all wheels are on the cart path.

Next Board Of Directors Forum: Monday, June 20, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Attending board members Linda McCann and Val Page. Please attend if you can. If any HPMGA member has any questions or suggestions you would like presented at the forum email them to me at [email protected] .

We are excited about this year and the additions we are making to the committee. There are 13 members on our committee now and we each are going to be responsible for reporting monthly on our assigned areas. Hopefully we will be able to make better more useful recommendations to our General Manager to take back to the board for consideration. All of us want the residents to feel free to contact us with any ideas or concerns that will improve the course, the play, or the education of our community about golf. This year, the members are as follows:

Stan Ely/ Nancy Beckwith Co-chairpersonsBetty Simpson – Secy. 18 hole Ladies President Nancy Suter Ladies Niners PresidentTom Aigotti Men's 18 hole President Linda O'Leary Memorial Tree ProgramDick Kaufman GHIN Handicap ProgramKaren Pipes MembershipsLinda McCann Utilization of PlayGriff Givens Golf Course ProjectsLarry Gray Grounds Coordinator Ken Nelson FinancialsFaye Wehner Natures Keepers

Our meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in the Magnolia Room unless it is a holiday. Please feel free to come in and listen or speak before the meeting begins.

Let’s clarify a few issues that have been brought to our attention. Some residents expressed concerns about seeing guests playing our course that don't appear to be playing with a resident. This is possible, because for our Invitationals and other events we ask other golf courses to donate free play on their course as a promotion. As a result our golf professional must also reciprocate. But rest assured the play is limited to certain days and times and is never allowed to usurp one of our residents Tee Times.

Golf Course etiquette seems to be forgotten at times. Please keep all four wheels of your golf cart on the cart paths. We are not supposed to pull off onto the grass for shade or just because we aren't paying attention. Tommy has lots of problems keeping the grass along the paths nice if we abuse it.

Each of you who has a handicap flag for your cart was required to sign an agreement to follow the handicap rules when you purchased your flag. We ask that you re-read what you agreed to do. You need to stay at least 10 feet from all greens and should never be in front of the green. Please stay on the cart paths around all Tee boxes. Any time the sign says cart path ONLY, you must abide by that even with a handicap flag.

Let's try to explain the 3-5 rule used for competitive tournament play. Your course handicap focuses only on you. It doesn't take into account where other competitors might play from. When players play from tees with a different UDGA Course Rating, their benchmarks have changed. The USGA Handicap System Section 3-5 adjustment is to rebalance the standard for competition. If you still have questions I am sure that our golf professional, Kevin would be glad to explain it further.

Two Ways To Pick Up The Pace

Q: My last round of golf was over five hours because of the group in front of us. Why does it take so long, and what is there to do about it?

A: Why does it take so long to play golf? Because slow players don't realize they are slow. In all my years in the golf business I've never heard anyone describe himself as a slow player. It's always the other golfer's fault.

Here are the two most common errors people make without realizing it (other errors are more self-evident):

Error 1: Parking the cart on the front side of the green. Too many golfers hit to the green and park in the front it. This slows things up because after they putt out, they have to walk back toward the group behind them before going to the next tee.

Solution: Park your cart as near as possible to the next tee. The reason even experienced golfers make this error is because of the mistaken belief that taking the time to park the cart before putting out doesn't really save any time. But in the normal pace of play, the people behind you are not waiting before you putt; they are waiting afterward.

Error 2: Leaving your cart with only one club in your hand. This error is more time-consuming when you are playing under "cart path only" rules, but it's a time-waster even if you have to walk only a few yards. Invariably, when you get to your ball, it's the wrong club and you have to go back to the cart.

Solution: Take two, three, four or more clubs (sometimes taking the whole bag can save time). It's much easier and faster than coming back to the cart.

Featured Member of the Month

Featured Member of the Month

Barbara Stebler grew up in Hollywood, CA but her family roots were in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where she attended Michigan Technological University and there met her husband, Robert. They have been married for fifty-six years, blessed with three children, eight grandchildren, three

great grand children and a great grand daughter on the way! Barb earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling. For 30 years she worked as a High School Guidance Counselor until retirement in 1993. She was a member of numerous educational and professional organizations and a Board Member of a five county Mental Health Agency, serving in a number of positions including chairman.

Little did Barb and Bob know when they drove 1785 miles to Florida from the UP to go on a cruise that they would eventually end up being residents of Heritage Pines! For twelve years they have enjoyed the six months a year they spend here playing in the sun, making lots of friends and serving their community! For many years they have been active in the Knights of Columbus and the Daughters of Isabella and with their church. Through Bob's leadership position with the Knights of Columbus they were privileged to have two private audiences with Pope John Paul II, and subsequently were honored by him with membership in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Most recently, in July of this year, their Bishop informed them that Pope Benedict XVI conferred the title of Dame Commander and Knight Commander of the Order of St. Gregory the Great upon them. Quite an honor indeed!

Barb has participated in the HPLGA from its inception, is an original member of the HP Choral group, plays Bridge, loves Ceramics and served as Vice President of Waterfall Village Homeowner's Association. They both enjoyed the ballroom and western dancing groups when it was available. Barb also loves her gardening which is quite evident when you pass her home. Barb says they feel privileged and blessed to have made such good friends here at Heritage Pines. Barb, WE feel blessed knowing you and appreciate all that you do in giving back to our community!

Catching Up With Clubs and Groups

Heritage Pines Sportsman's Club The next meeting of the Heritage Pines Sportsman's Club, which is always held on the second Thursday of each month will be on June 9th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Magnolia Room. All interested residents are invited to join us at the meeting and to learn about our many Club outdoor activities. We are an active and growing club.

The Sportsman's Club has run a very successful series of fishing trips. Call Roger Keplinger, (379-6571 or send email to: [email protected]) if interested in a fun fishing trip.

The Sportsman's Club, goes trap and skeet shooting on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Silver Dollar Shooting Club in Odessa, FL. Once in a while we go north to Crystal River and shoot at the Robinson's Ranch range. Transportation is provided and we gather at 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot across from the Clubhouse to organize the carpools. If you don't own a gun and would like to try this sport, you can rent a gun at Silver Dollar for the day at a very reasonable rate. Along with our members we also have about five people from Timber Pines attending. As previously reported lessons are still being given at the Silver Dollar for Trap shooters for $40.00 per person. There are two instructors for each group of five shooters. One of the nice things that this group does is to enjoy a meal together after each shooting session. We also have six members that have shot Skeet. Skeet is a different game than Trap and requires a different set of shooting skills. The Sportsman's Club Coordinator for Trap and Skeet shooting is Thom Johnson at 863-7724.

Pistol and Rifle Shooters can go to Hernando County Sportsman's Club which is on the left about 20 miles as you drive north on Highway 19 or you can go with the group to the Phoenix Gun Club north of Brooksville. You should contact Harry Koerner at 378-5667 to find out more about this. Members who have done their shooting at Brooksville comment that it's not buggy, not crowded and the range officers are very accommodating to everyone. Members are organizing in the parking lot at 9 am, to shoot there once a month on the Friday after our monthly meeting. You must be a member of the Phoenix gun club to shoot there. Costs are reasonable with a $25.00 annual fee with an additional $10.00 per day to shoot. There is a family plan for $200.00 a year with no additional charge to shoot. If you have any questions please contact Harry Koerner. As we know more about them, we will let you know.

Organized Bocce Ball play has resumed, but attendance has been too low. We are in need of more players if a tournament is to be playable. Please contact Leon Silberman at 862-2394 if you're interested in joining the fun.

Howard Stringer, our Kayak guy is recovering nicely from Hip Replacement Surgery, so no planned activity is currently in place. When Howard recovers we know he will be giving us plans for Kayak cruising.

80 + Super SeniorsCome socialize and meet new friends to reminisce old times at the Clubhouse on Friday, June 10th at 12:00 p.m. for lunch. If interested please call Loretta Fulda 727-697-2060 or Stephanie Nunziante 727-860-4142.

Book Club The Heritage Pines Book Club meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month. By the time this article goes to print, we will have made our reading selections for the next year, and that list can be found on the bulletin board. We look forward to some fascinating discussions starting in September. During the summer, we hold lunch meetings outside Heritage Pines. On Wednesday, June 22, we'll meet at the Clubhouse, then travel to a great area restaurant** for lunch and “book talk”.

Everyone in the community is welcome in the Book Club, so please come and join our stimulating and insightful discussions. If anyone has any questions, please call Judith Chase at 862-4545. Happy reading!

** Details of the lunch trip are also available on the Bulletin Board. Everyone is welcome, and if you wish to join us, the sign-up sheet is located in the Book Club Binder in the Library Armoire. Several of us plan to car pool, so please indicate whether you can drive or will need a ride. You must sign up no later than June 20. Hope to see you in June!

Library NewsOur library is maintained by volunteers from the H.P. Book Club. Any one interested in volunteering can call Jocelyn at 869-9461. We gratefully accept donations of POPULAR hard back books and GENTLY USED paperbacks.

Fiction books are on the right hand wall in alphabetical order by author. Non-fiction books are on the left hand wall by subject category. Paperbacks are found in the lower four corners in alphabetical order by author. Large Print books are on the left hand wall of the library. Leave donations and returns on the book cart. Since space is of a premium, we can only keep books of wide appeal. Paperbacks do not need to be returned. We have been getting requests for books on tapes for use in cars. Please donate them if you have extras. The library does not accept magazines, games, puzzles, technical books, movies or other non-book items.

Community Emergency Response Team - C.E.R.T.

By now you should be ready for the 2011 storm season.

You should be stocked up on your prescriptions, You should have a 2 week supply of your medications on hand

ththroughout hurricane season which ends November 30 .

Remember, we are all on our own. If a Category 3, 4 or 5 storm hits, Pasco and Hernando shelters will only have room for half of the number who might seek refuge. Our worst enemy is complacency. No one is going to bring you water, ice or food after a storm if power is out and stores are closed.

HAVE A PLAN! Make a list. Know where you are going if you choose to leave. Have all the supplies needed to sustain you and yours for 5 to 7 days after a storm without power.

The course of the storm is in God’s hands, but survival is up to you. For more information pick up your copy of the “Disaster Preparedness Guide For Elders” at the front desk. Pick up your copy of this new publication while supplies last.

Drama ClubThe Heritage Pines Drama Club held its Annual Meeting on April 13 and elected officers for the board. They are: John Popovich, President, Joanne Florin, Vice President, Marcia Letterer, Secretary, Pat Kennedy, Treasurer, Paul Mattes, Maggie Shell and Bob Zains, Members at Large.

The Drama Club wishes to thank the residents of Heritage Pines for their continued support as demonstrated by the success of the most recent production, "Lend Me A Tenor". We look forward to a great theatrical year ahead with productions scheduled for November, 2011 and April 2012.

Ping PongersDo you need better hand and eye coordination to improve your golf and/or tennis game? Not getting quite enough aerobic exercise at the gym? Need some hip loosening? Oh! and want to lose a few inches, rebuild a few muscles, feel that heart beating, just try Ping Ponging for a great aerobic workout that burns lots of calories besides helping those impinged shoulders and tight hips. Yeah, okay! So maybe you haven't played in twenty (maybe forty is a better guess) years but, it's like riding a bike. Just a bit of practice and you are in the groove again. Come and join us for some fun evenings and days playing Ping Pong. Come to the PAC room on Tuesday evenings around 6:00 p.m and on Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m. Do remember that often on Tuesday evenings other clubs hold their meetings in the PAC room at 7:00 p.m. HOWEVER, on those evenings (see the Monthly HP Newsletter AND check your HP e-mail notices) some ping pongers arrive earlier in the evening to play for an hour or so. IF you want to play but are unsure whether someone else will be there to play, please call the consistant players to see if one or more will be there that evening or morning: Francine Raggi -Collins; Al Alberts; Charlie Schielein; Tom and Kathy Lumia; Evelyn Vitale. If you are interested in receiving the list of Heritage Pine Ping Pongers, please contact Francine at [email protected] and she will forward a copy via email to you. Remember, the ping pong tables and paddles are available at all times except if there is a special event or meeting going on in the PAC. Call the front desk at any time to find out if the PAC room is free and come up with your friends, relatives, grandchildren, children etc. to spend some great time together.

Bestest, Francine Raggi-Collins

Angels in the PinesWow!! We'll say the clothing drive for the Domestic Violence House was a huge success. Even in the pouring rain we were able to rally and fill the bus. The community reaped some really clean closets and the DVH had Christmas in May. The best part was that with the kindness forms the DVH will be able to get matching grants in the amount of $17,314. What a great accomplishment for our community.

My thanks goes to each and everyone especially all the Angels who do so much for so many. Special thanks to Bill Berthold, Gary Wind and his staff, Roy Large for traffic control.

Through the joint efforts of our Community Angels we have touched close to 1000 people in our area who were in need of our help. So thank you to all those who worked so hard and also to those who supported our efforts.

If anyone is interested in joining us we meet the first and third Sundays in the craft room. Come join us!! We take all levels of talent. If you can't join us we do accept donations for yarn or wool. This year we have received requests for 400-450 hats for our local area. You can bring the yarn and leave it the craft room in the blue bin.

So watch out for our sparking KNITTING needles as they are warming up. Or you might just hooked with our CROCHETers while our SEWers keep you in stitches!!!!

Contact Kathy Hendrickson 862-2394 or Lynn Aigotti 862-6404.

Bridge GroupsThere are several opportunities to play bridge every week at Heritage Pines. The various bridge groups and their times of play are listed below. You are welcome to join as many groups as you desire. If you have a question about the groups, please call Judy Kortier at 819-2008.

Village AtticWe are a group of residents that have items to loan out. We are currently updating our list, if you no longer wish to be on the list, or have items you'd like to share, please contact Betty Plante 863-8462 or Marcia Gerber 819-1662. As always, the list is kept in the amoire in the library. If interested in borrowing an item, contact the person and make arrangements. It is your responsibility to return the item in a timely manner and in clean condition.

Bunco NewsWell, summer is finally here and we am sure you will want to cool off playing Bunco with all of your friends - both old and new friends that you will meet here in the Magnolia Room on Thursday nite, June 30th. We start promptly at 6:30 p.m. and you must bring the appropriate envelopes to play this very easy and fun filled game. If you have any questions, please contact Marcia Gerber 819-1662, Betty Plante, 863-8462 or Camille Baldick at 862-9974. See you in June!! Heritage Pines Maryland Group

HP residents from Maryland plan to lunch together 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Billy Blue Crabs, 915 Jefferson St. in Brooksville. Billy Blue Crabs serves a variety of seafood entrees as well as grilled prime rib, BBQ'd chicken, and pasta dinners. Their Maryland-style steamed blue crabs are delicious!

If you haven't already done so, please notify Donnie Skuja at [email protected] (or 727-868-3617) if you plan to attend this luncheon.....and/or if you are interested in joining us for future functions.

Theatre NewsAnother rave for the bus trip to see "JERSEY BOYS" at the Straz Center. Thank you for the emails, calls and cards to say the trip, show and dinner was wonderful. Hope to repeat this with one of the upcoming Broadway shows for the 2011/2012 season. Check the schedule in the theatre book and join us to see:

THE ADDAMS FAMILY • PETER PAN • A CHRISTMAS STORY • MILLION DOLLAR

QUARTET • LES MISERABLES • LA CAGE • COME FLY AWAY • BURN THE FLOOR

• BOEING BOEING • MEMPHIS • THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING • MOTHERHOOD, THE

MUSICAL - DEBBIE REYNOLDS • ANDREA BOCELLI IN CONCERT •

and the list continues to grow.....

I should have the contracts by the next newsletter. As soon as we have the dates and prices confirmed, we will need your $25 deposit to hold the seat. Unsold tickets must be returned timely, usually 30 days before the show.

We attended the play "SHREK" and must comment we were surprise that we really enjoyed it. There were a lot of well behaved children seeing the show and "PETER PAN" should appeal to them too. I will see the play "HAIR" after we go to press. I'm getting my tattoo, headband and beads ready to wear.

We attended the sneak peek of "MEMPHIS" the Best Musical of 2010 coming to REH in February. Set in the underground dance clubs of the segregated South and inspired by actural events, this compelling tale of forbidden love, personal sacrifice, smoldering racial tension and a passion to change the world buursts onto the stage with exlosive dancing and the music that gave birth to Rock and Roll. The story follows the journey of a radio DJ and a club singer ready for her big break.

There are no scheduled shows for June. We will attend the Show Palace play "LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS" on July 16th. That's still $40.50 a ticket for show, buffet dinner and tax. Gratuities are extra. Join us for this hilarious and heart warming musical comedy classic as AUDREY II, the exotic plant, requires fresh BLOOD for food.

Also, there is interest in seeing "ANDRE BOCELLI" at St. Pete Times Forum on Sunday, December 4th at 7:30 pm. His concerts are a big hit in this area and the tickets are pricey for good seats. Check the theatre book for the price range you want and sign up. As many suggest a bus trip for this evening show, add about $20 to cover it. We may not dine before the show to avoid additional costs.

Signing up in the theatre book is just our way of knowing how many tickets to reserve. Please delete your name if your plans change. It looks like the next Show Palace plays are selling fast. "BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO: THE NEIL SEDAKA MUSICAL" is a winner. The story, like Mamma Mia, is built around Neil Sedaka's greatest hits.

Heritage Pines Democratic ClubThursday, June 16, 2011

4 – 6 p.m. in the Magnolia Room

Our round table discussion topic for this meeting will be “The 2011 Legislative Session Shows Complete Disrespect for the Voters.” This legislative session did not cut your taxes; they did cut support to schools, libraries, and health care, and did away with comprehensive growth planning, hurt Florida women, reduced unemployment benefits at a time of great unemployment, while not creating one job. (In fact, their actions reduced the number of jobs!) They funded their special projects while taking the funding from the poor, homeless, hungry, and anyone else they considered powerless, like our children and grandchildren. Had enough to get involved??

We'd like to encourage all HP Democrats to attend, and see what we're all about!

RSVP: Dr. Lynn Lindeman, President – 697-3052; Paula Storch, Vice-President – 868-0113; Judith Chase, Secretary – 862-4545; Oma Spain, Treasurer – 863-3962; Sandy Harrison, Parliamentarian – 808-9299

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has…….Margaret Mead

Agreeing to disagree, then listening, can be powerful!

HP Ladies' Bowling LeagueCongratulations to Vicki Moon for bowling the highest score of the season with an incredible 201! Way to go, Vicki.

Our season will be ending in June and re-starting this fall. Please watch our newsletters over the summer for information on how to join in on the fun. In the meantime, you can contact Stephanie Nunziante, 860-4142, for information.

The HP Ladies' Bowling League wishes you a safe and happy summer!

"STEEL MAGNOLIAS" and "MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS" are based on movies and if requested we will show the movie at the Clubhouse.

Please make your checks payable to THE HERITAGE PINES THEATRE CLUB. Leave them in the theatre book or drop them off at my home. Call me for questions. Thank you for your help. Marcia Gerber 819-1662

Jazz SquaresDance sessions have suspended for the summer. We had an interesting year with some of the girls performing in two shows. We have changed up the content of the class and have no shows scheduled for the future. Check for the start-up date for the fall if you are interested. Thanks for a fun-filled year and have a wonderful safe summer. Stay cool and keep dancing.

We hope everyone has a wonderful summer. We will meet again on September

20 at 11:00 a.m.

By the time you receive this, we will have enjoyed a PowerPoint presentation and speaker, David, from the Survival Outreach Sanctuary in Pasco County. David is an inspiring and committed young man who is devoting himself to preserving the lives of these beautiful, endangered animals.

Hurricane season will be upon us before we know it. For your pet's safety, please take the time, now, to register them on the Heritage Pines website… for their own safety.

If there's a major environmental emergency for us in Heritage Pines, do you have a list of the supplies you need for your pet? Do you know where you can take them if you need to be in a public shelter, but they cannot be with you?

Check out this website for important answers to these and other questions.

http://www.pascoemergencymanagement.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Preparing-Your-Pets-for-Emergencies-2010.pdf

Join us in the fall for a visit to Nature Coast Humane Society and for speakers who will tell us about service dogs and behavior training. (Still in the planning is a panel about the characteristics of all the dogs groups in the AKC.)

Would you like to join the Pet Lovers Club?

New member (and 2011 renewal!) dues are $12 per family and may be sent to:

Pet Lovers' ClubMy name is Lita Rose. I was abandoned by my original caretaker at the age of 2. A friend knew about someone whom she was sure would give me a good home. So – in January 2005, I was

introduced to my new “mother to be” Lee Gebhardt. It was love at first sight for both of us.

I was so excited to be in a home without those two big dogs that used to pick on me. That is why I am still wary of getting very near to big dogs and take my time to get close to new doggie friends.

Since moving to Heritage Pines, I have been adopted by several “aunties” who share in giving me daily love. I especially enjoy my routine outings with Auntie Gerri. It is our special time together.

I look forward to golf cart rides, regardless of who is driving. When I see a cart, my first instinct is to jump in. Sometimes, I get lucky and get a ride!!

You can find me walking on Camshire Court or around Hilltop Village, usually being followed by Mr. Kitty, a feral cat who also adopted me and is trying to move into my home. So far I have been successful in keeping him in the garage!!

If you see me, please stop to say “Hi”. I am a real person lover and like to make new friends.

Pet of the Month

Because you love your pet and the Pet Lovers' Club loves them too, we encourage you to register your pet(s) today on the Heritage Pines website.

Kitty Coalition has finally submitted our paperwork to the IRS to become a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It has been a long process, and the application was involved, but we believe we will be approved. The IRS has asked for some additional language added to our Articles of Incorporation, and we have complied.

The application is a bit expensive ($400.00) for a small organization like us. But the benefits will be worthwhile once approved. Many large animal rescue groups receive grants that are then distributed to small 501(c)(3) groups. Without that official designation, we were not eligible. But as always, we need your donations, no matter how small. We will do our best to apply for grants to take care of our ferals, but the lifeblood of Kitty Coalition is from our residents. If you itemize, be sure to ask for a receipt for your donations.

We are currently planning our first annual “A-Cat-emy Awards” event, complete with red carpet, paparazzi and Oscars. If you are a cat lover, mark your calendar for Sunday, October 16, 2011, 4:30-7 p.m., in the PAC. Tickets will go on sale on July 1. For those of you who love to plan fun parties, please join our Acatemy Awards party-planning team! To help, call Sherry, 697-3788 or email [email protected].

Pines Glen Village

Pines Glen

The Pines Glen Social Committee met at the Clubhouse for lunch and our monthly meeting.

Forty members of our village gathered at the Bocce court at 3 p.m. on April 9th. Each member contributed $5 for food. (Sandwich platters, potato salad, cole slaw and macaroni salad). Each member brought their own chairs, beverages and some brought tables to share. Prizes were awarded to the winners. The Leskas took care of the scheduling of teams. Thank you to all that participated and to those who organized the games.

On the 6th of May our Community ventured off to Pine Island for a Sunset Pot Luck Dinner. The Delamer's brought Ladder Ball and Sand Bocce for after dinner entertainment. The food was delicious as always and we had a raffle for the Kentucky Derby which was won by Mike Weber with the horse "Animal Kingdom".

On May 14th at 8 p.m. a group of us went to see "Funny Girl" at Stage West Community Playhouse at Spring Hill.

On June 27th, Pines Glen Village residents will be attending a Rays game. Frank Arno has secured a package which includes, a ticket for the game, a shirt, a member card, a "Golden Rays" bag and a voucher for a reserved seat at the next game.

This year's Christmas Party will be held December 9th, cocktail hour, dinner and music by "The Vintage". All HP residents are welcome to attend. Price will be determined at a later date.

Penny Norton has been very successful with the collection of food for the Mary Giella school families for the summer. Thank you Penny for all your hard work for a very worthy cause.

The Heritage Pines Niner's Golf Association will hold an open golf event on June 14th. The cost is $5 plus your regular charges. This event is open to everyone. There will be a sign-up sheet at the Pro Shop; bring your $5 with you when you sign up, there will be an envelope there. If you have any questions regarding this, call Kathy Stohehs at 861-3724.
