Removing liquids from gas streams using AZGAZ ® separator Using patented technology, the AZGAZ, a compact, lightweight, in-line gas/liquid separation unit, was specifically designed to remove liquid and solid particles from gas streams. The AZGAZ is ideal for free liquid knock out prior to compression. Operation AZGAZ uses a combination of gravitational and centrifugal forces together with its own tried and tested patented technology to turn wet gas into dry gas. Wet gas entering the unit is slowed down by the greater cross-sectional pipeline area inside, allowing larger liquid droplets to be effected by gravity and collect as liquid at the bottom of the vessel. Before it can progress any further, this liquid is caught by the first stage diffuser and drains into a collection pot. The remaining liquid droplets, which are too small to settle under gravity, flow through the center of the first diffuser in a fine mist. Next, the droplets pass through the patented two-stage fixed vane swirler which forces the gas to spin. Here, enhanced ‘g’ forces and increased separation bring the smaller liquid droplets together and force them to the outer edge of the flow stream. As the smaller liquid droplets leave the swirler, these liquid droplets are caught radially, collected by the final diffuser and drained from the vessel. MERPRO® PROCESS SYSTEMS

The NOV® line of Merpro process equipment provides products and solutions for sand handling in both land and offshore arenas (FPSOs and platforms).

Sand handling is the ability to deal with produced sand problems by fluidizing and transporting sand from problem areas.

NOV’s line of Merpro sand handling equipment is able to manage and move sand from well streams, production separators, and other areas, controlling and conditioning the sand for flowing into desanders and sand wash systems.

What is Tore®?Tore is a unique device for solids transportation that operates with no moving parts. By introducing a liquid or gas as motive fluid, the Tore generates a vortex which fluidizes the solids immediately around it. This vortex attracts solid particles to the foot of the Tore from where they are transported as a slurry through a pipeline at controlled concentrations. A Tore transports solids economically and is more reliable than traditional solids transport systems such as slurry pumps and conveyor belts.

Tore is suitable for transporting most types of solids or sludge, potentially over great distances, and is the core technology in Merpro process systems supplied to a wide range of industries.

ApplicationTore conveys solids at slurry concentrations of up to 70% by weight. Tore can transport most types of solids or sludge and is a highly efficient mixing device especially when adding fluids to solids or sludge. Tore can move any solid amenable to transport in slurry form, or alternatively can use gas as the motive medium for fine solids when slurry transport is not appropriate, e.g. the pharmaceutical industry. A 1” Tore can transport up to 4 tons per hour of sand and a 2” Tore 16 tons.

Topside Sand Handling SolutionsNOV has a wide range of proven sand handling products incorporating Tore technology, providing efficient and reliable patented handling solutions.

Sand or Fines? Fines are generally regarded as less than 50 microns. However, NOV’s Merpro products refer to the term sand to include fines and other solids.

Sand Removal from separators utilizing the Tore Online Vessel Desander (Tore OVD) Removes solids, including fines from separators/vessels Keeps separators effectively free of solids, thus maximizing residence time and reducing solids carryover Enables solids to be removed whenever required, while the separators remain online Provides controlled discharge of slurry, thus preventing blockages in pipelines and downstream equipment such as sand cleaning units

Around 50% of installations worldwide are retrofit, including replacing unreliable jetting systems

Tore in Operation

Tore OVD consists of Tores with interconnecting pipework to remove sand from vessels.

Desanding — ToreTrap is a wellhead desander that provides water desanding. The high pressure well desander shown is rated at 15,000 psi.

Cleaning Oil from Sand — ToreScrub cleans oil from sand for discharge overboard. Shown above are ToreScrub solid/liquid cyclones and Tore used to receive and clean solids to less than 1% oil content.

Problems resulting from accumulated sand include:

Blocked vessel internals Eroded vessel lining, caused by jetting Vessel wall erosion, caused by jetting Blocked and eroded hydrocyclones

Produced Water TreatmentThe NOV line of Merpro process systems provides complete produced water treatment and injection solutions to manage increasing levels of water production. These solutions include: Bulk oil water separation Hydrocyclone packages to remove oil from produced water

Produced water polishing, including fine filtration

NOV has more than 30 years of experience in designing and manufacturing produced water treatment systems to address rising water production. The onset of increased water cut is often a trigger for increased sand production and with extensive knowledge and experience in these fields, NOV is well positioned to provide holistic produced water treatment and desanding systems, which include the following products and services:

ToreSep for Bulk Oil/Water Separation For high water cut wells around 60% to 95% water cut Provides oil stream with around 10% water; reducing

loading on first stage separator Provides water stream with around 1000 ppm oil in water; sufficient for feeding to de-oiling hydrocyclones

De-oiling Hydrocyclones for Secondary Treatment Compartmentalized design to deal with a range of flow conditions

Reduces oil in water content to 30 ppm or less, dependent on process conditions

Fil-Tore® for Tertiary Water Treatment Media based water treatment for reducing oil in water content to around 2 ppm

Removes solids down to around 2 microns
