Astrology never fails to delight with its correspondences to the little things in life. When I quit ‘fooling around’ on the computer just now and told myself to

write this letter, I checked the chart for the moment and guess what – Saturn is exactly

rising within 0o 10’ of the ascendant. How’s that for a statement of Duty? …and a response to a planetary command?

Saturn is square the sun as I write on the current Libra ingress. He is strong in his own sign and is finally going direct – while Venus gets ready to retrograde on October 5th from almost 11o Scorpio.

Our committee, we presume, is still going direct for the foreseeable future. There is quite a bit of talent amongst our members to continue our modest but steady growth and the positive changes that come with it.

Our AGM is coming next month, and as always, all members [and spouses etc] are invited to join the festivities after the brief meeting. This year we are holding the event at Del Meredith’s house in Alexander Heights – a home with a beautiful view and sculptured back yard. Del is our Feng Shui expert, and her property reflects her Art.

October brings us an excellent article by Samantha Bakewell which dominates this issue of our

newsletter. It is a follow on from her talk last April on the “Guardian Angel” or to use it’s proper name, the

Almutem. Sam takes us through thoroughly step by step and as I first read it over I found myself saying

“gosh if this was part of a modern book for students of traditional astrology it might be entitled “How to

find your Almutem for Dummies”! I’m sure Sam would smile at this

Our talk for October has had to be cancelled due to sickness probably until next year but it has not been

forgotten. Once more I would like to draw your attention to the AGM for 2018 to be held on Sunday, 25th

of November. We are very much looking forward to catching up with our current members and always

enjoy seeing those few past members who drop by to say hello again.

Keep those proxy forms handy and remember if you find you are unable to attend the AGM please make

sure you fill a form out and send it to one of the existing committee members of your choice to enable

him/her to vote on your behalf.

On 15

of April 2018, the FAAWA held a

workshop on two separate techniques; the

first being about your Guardian Angel,

otherwise known as your Almutem, with

the other technique being Profections,

and both tutored by myself, Samantha

Bakewell. I would like to take this

opportunity to follow up on the Almutem

for this edition of the Mercury Messenger.

During this summarised step by step version, I will be reiterating this useful winner of the chart known, as your Guardian Angel. Step 1 The chart:

We will be using Angelina Jolie’s chart for today’s lesson.

4th June 1975 - 9.09 am. Los Angeles California.

Step 2 The Calculation Sheet:

Start filling out the sheet by writing the name, time and date of birth at the top.

In the horizontal boxes begin writing the birth details requested; degree, sign and minutes of planet (i.e. Sun 13 degrees, Gemini and 25 minutes).

Full or New Moon; you will now get your 20th century Ephemeris out to look up the Full or New Moon immediately before birth (the Syzygy Ante Nativitatum, SAN).

Angelina’s lunation before birth (SAN) is 3 degrees Sagittarius 25 minutes, Full Moon.

Enter 3 degrees Sagittarius 25’.

House; leave the house box until the end.

Day; she was born on Wednesday at 9.09 am. o The days start from sunrise and end at sunrise the following morning.

If using Solar Fire software; at the top right hand of every chart you will notice the day is already indicated.

Hour; 9.09 am is taken from the below planetary hour in the chart from Solar Fire. o 9.09 am falls in-between 8.08 to 9.18 am, thus Saturn is the lord of the hour.

Step 3 Rulership and Exalted Planets:

Planets in rulership will receive 5 points.

Exalted planets receive 4 points. Signs Rulership Exaltation

Gemini does not have any planets in exaltation, thus nothing receives 4 points. The Dorothean Triplicity Rulers:

The triplicity rulers receive 3 points.

Angelina’s Sun is at 13 degrees Gemini and 25’.

In the terms of Venus. Find Gemini on the terms sheet and run your fingers across until you get to 13 degrees.

Venus receives 2 points. Faces or Decan:

Decan will receive 1 point.

At the end of the each horizontal column you can see the degrees within the applicable range. The 1st column is from 0 to 10 degrees, the 2nd from 10 to 20 degrees and 3rd from 20 to 30 degrees.

Angelina’s Sun is at 13 degrees Gemini 25’

Find Gemini; go to the second horizontal column and there you will find Mars.

Mars receives 1 point.

Now fill out the next four following the same instructions we have just completed for the Sun; these being the Moon, Ascendant, SAN, and Part of fortune. Step 4 Houses: At the bottom of the calculation sheet you will notice houses 1 to 12 with points next to it.

Angelina’s Sun is in the 12th house which receives 2 points.

Her Moon is in the 10th house = 11 points.

Mercury in the 12th = 2 points

Venus in the 1st house = 12 points

Mars in the 10th house = 11 points

Jupiter in the 10th house = 11 points

Saturn in the 1st house = 12 points Step 5 Lord of the Day:

We have already established the lord of the day which is Mercury, and on your calculation sheet you need to insert the 7 points for Mercury.

Step 6 Lord of the Hour:

We have already ascertained earlier that the Lord of the Hour is Saturn.

The Lord of the hour, Saturn, receives 6 points. Step 7 Total:

The Winner is: Jupiter. Jupiter is already Angelina’s benefic of sect; the most helpful planet in her chart. It is high in the 10th house conjunct her MC, the Moon and Mars. Jupiter makes a separating square aspect to Saturn and sextiles both the Sun and Mercury. Natural spirit

Angelina’s Jupiter falls in the rational spirit of justice, learning and knowledge, generally, those who want both a better world and to help out other people. Mars conjunct Jupiter: this conjunction is working for and against her. These are people who are fight for human rights; freedom fighters, supporting those less fortunate; children and animals; they may be involved in fundraising, etc. Basically she combats injustice and fights for what she strongly believes is just. Mars is in rulership and in a good location; although it is her malefic of sect. This gives her benefits as well as problems, and at times this aspect will take its toll on her: she will be quick to get angry, and during particular years she will be prone to bodily injuries. Fortunately Jupiter is also her Almutem, thus she is forever protected, buffering any serious Mars activities. This energy, with her Mars aspect, will protect her from any type of controversy; it will give her the winning edge with court cases, her career and any sudden changes to her career. The hard aspect to Saturn can show someone who suffers from bi polar or feelings of sudden sadness, Jupiter will help her to surmount setbacks quickly. At first glance Jupiter appears to be in great condition. However, after further assessment you will notice it is besiege by two malefic planets, one of which – Saturn - is making a square aspect. Both the Moon and Jupiter rule her ascendant, so, succinctly; she is represented by both energies. Even the benific of sect can be debilitated in many ways and severely challenging when two malefic planets are in aspect. Fortunately for Angelina, Jupiter is guarding her from situations which could be much worse. Planets in angles are easier to predict for as they are promised to fulfil whatever is stated by them. I have used only the 7 visible planets, Ptolemaic aspects and the whole house system.
