Since Bassanio has no money, it is up to Antonio to pay. If Antonio fails to pay 3000 ducats by the end of three months, he will have to give Shylock ‘one pound of flesh’.

I agree that Shylock is an evil character because he is racist and wants to hurt people badly. In the text, Shylock makes racist remarks to his Christian citizens such as Antonio. He also has evil intentions for Antonio by wanting him to die through the removal of one pound of flesh should Antonio fail to pay back the money. Because he is overall racist in nature and has intentions to kill other characters, this makes Shylock a character of pure evil and thus, I agree with such a statement
