January/February 2020President’s Message

Welcome!

Happy New Year! I’m hoping that each of you will have a tremendous 2020 and beyond.

I guess I didn’t have my black-eyed peas soon enough to avoid the trip to the emergency room on New Year’s Eve. After collapsing at home, the evening of December 31st I was transported to Baylor Plano via Dallas EMS. Riding in the back of a Ford ambulance sure wasn’t my idea of a proper New Year’s celebration. Apparently even with all of the vaccinations for both flu and pneumonia I had a serious pneumonia infection that was immediately treated with antibiotics and IV fluids.

I could belabor you with all of my ailments, but suffice it to say that it took another 3 days to get me back on my feet and able to walk out the front door. For over 50 years I had been able to avoid hospitals or only visit others there. Hopefully now I can go another 50 years!

The North Texas Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America (MBCA) is dedicated to enhancing the ownership experience of the finest automobiles in the world. We engage in a variety of activities throughout the year that hopefully appeal to a broad section of our membership.

Currently our membership totals almost 1000 members who are committed to furthering their experience and enjoyment of their cars. Whether you’re a gear head, performance driver, rally enthusiast, cultural maven or social mingler, the MBCA North Texas Section had an upcoming event for you. Check out the Events section to see what’s coming up during the year, and for details on events that are just over the horizon.

Our Heritage Ranch Christmas party last month was a tremendous success and a good time was had by all. Just yesterday I got an email request for some photos and in particular the twin SLs that graced our entry way. The weather was nearly perfect, the holiday decorations adorable and it just felt right to be back at Heritage Ranch. In addition to the many gifts and prizes Pete the DJ and a magician entertained the group.

Upcoming events: Ron Harwick has arranged a Saturday tour of the new Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights museum, Maurice is working on next summer’s picnic, Ron Seifert is working on the Park Place Luxury and Supercar Showcase and a team of others are working on a Granbury trip, a day at the range and many, many other opportunities.

With member support and feedback, we are contemplating a drive to Jefferson, Texas and the Bush library. Additionally, we are looking at a day on the lake based on a member suggestion. Last year was the first year we did the Texas State Railroad and I continue to get positive comments. Jay Agnew suggested that we do the Texas State Railroad again and make it a 2 day trip with an overnight in Palestine. All great ideas, but we need some additional project managers so please let us know how you can help make 2020 a truly tremendous year for the North Texas Section. THANKS!

Very sincerely,Craig HalversonPresident, North Texas Section

The classic car show was a casual meet and greet with fellow Dallas/Ft. Worth area Pre-1990 Classic Mercedes owners and enthusiasts. This annual event, provides a low key setting for participants to come and spend a few hours getting to know each other, share stories and ideas and showing their great cars.

The car show was held at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Dallas. Wallace Wheeler who organized the event has been key to reaching out to our Classic Mercedes Members.

The weather was great for the event and the German themed lunch was catered and fit perfectly with the German cars. We are looking forward to Wallace to organize the event next year for the 4th Classic Car event.
