Workshop Name: Being Me, Being Free Description: A program designed for Aboriginal adults over the age of twenty-four. This

program addresses the needs of survivors of the Residential Schools Legacy,

victims of historical trauma, abuse, domestic violence, and survivors of a loved

one’s suicide, sudden accidental death, or other traumas and losses. Sessions will

address needs including situational stressors, family relations, interpersonal

relationships, employee personal concerns, mental health issues, sexuality issues

and underlying issues of addictions.

Workshop Name: Calm in the Storm Series Description: Klinic will be offering this six-week series covering topics from our popular Life

in Balance program. The course will be held at Klinic Community Health

Centre, 870 Portage Ave. Topics covered will include living a balanced life,

emotional and mental well-being, coping with stress, exploring spirituality,

developing self-compassion, good food for well-being, and getting restful sleep.

Each session will include some information, time for discussion and some

Workshop Name: Managing Anger Description: The management of anger involves a willingness to change old self-defeating

styles of reacting and be-having. Participants learn that anger management is not

the process of eliminating anger; rather, it is the process of using their self-

relaxation skills to reduce the tension that comes with anger. We also explore

styles of thinking that increase anger.

Workshop Name: Mindfulness Meditation

Description: Mindfulness meditation is a practice of settling the mind and body in full

awareness the present moment. By learning to sit with our own thoughts,

emotions and bodily sensations without judgement we can respond to life’s

many ups and downs rather than react to stressful situations in old, unwise and

habitual patterns. In this 60 minute weekly gathering participants learn simple

sitting and walking meditation in group sessions as well as explore opportunities

for informal practice in daily life. Together we experience the art of “being”.

Workshop Name: Spiritual Journeys- Registration opens March. 2, 2015 Description: Spirituality and Recovery is the theme of this course. The course is open to

participants of any (or no) spiritual or religious background. Participants will be-

come aware of the importance of spiritual health as a component of well-being,

affirm life experiences that have shaped spiritual development, and explore

spiritual activities that enrich life. Some of the topics covered are: Purpose and

Meaning, Mindful-ness, Values, Connectedness, Creativity and Won-der, and

Ceremonies. This is an opportunity to explore spiritual topics in a safe and non-

judgmental environment.

Workshop Name: Schizophrenia Treatment & Education Program (STEP)

Description: This multidisciplinary program includes an inpatient unit, outpatient clinics and

a rehabilitation readiness component. STEP provides specialized consultation

services, both medical and non-medical, regarding the diagnosis, treatment and

rehabilitation of individuals with psychotic disorder. The STEP program also

offers an educational workshop for family members which cover a variety of

topics related to understanding and supporting family members living with

schizophrenia.

Workshop Name: Understanding and Managing Anxiety

Description: This course has two main objectives. The first is to help participants understand

anxiety, including: why one feels anxious; physical, emotional and behavioural

symptoms of anxiety; thinking patterns that increase anxiety; and the

characteristics of various anxiety disorders. The second objective is to help

participants develop positive coping tools to manage their anxiety. These

strategies include: breathing and relaxation; mindfulness and meditation;

cognitive restructuring; gradual exposure; breaking reactive patterns; and

gratitude.

peaceful. Yoga helps promote well-being through a sequencing of poses done in

a safe and positive environment.
