Mental Health

Among young Australians aged 12-25 years, depression is the most common mental health problem. Around one in ten young Australians will experience an anxiety disorder in any given 12 month period. At least one third of young people have had an episode of mental illness by the age of 25 years.

TIPS FROM STUDENTS who have a mental health condition

• Don’t ignore a student who is depressed or has mental health conditions.

• Let them know you care; help them to update missing assignments; set up

extra study time.

• Be aware of changes in medication as well as behaviours.

• Understand that they may not accept your help given the severity of their

illness.
