MEMWRITER PC – web connection, a.k.a. “COMET mode”

MemWriter PC – Software Installation Requirements
0. Ensure that your PC:
runs on one of these supported Operating Systems: Windows 7 Windows XP Service Pack 2 Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 Windows 98 Windows 98 Second Edition Windows ME Windows Server 2003
has a RAM of 96 MB (minimum), 256 MB (recommended) has a display 1024 x 768 high color, 32-bithas at least 30 Mb of free space (up to 500 Mb may be required)has installed the Microsoft .Net framework 2.0. In case of need, you can download it
from: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=1639 has Windows Installer 3.1 or later. In case of need, you can download it from:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16821 has the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) already installed. In case
of need, you can download it from:http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=5638

MemWriter PC – Prolific Driver Installation
1. Install the PL2303 Prolific Driver
- run or double-click the PL-2303 Driver Installer program- the InstallShield Wizard will be displayed on your screen to inform you that the PL-2303 USB-to-Serial driver will be installed on your computer.
- click the Finish button to close the InstallShield program. If you have plugged the cable into the PC while running the setup installation, please unplug and replug the cable for the system to detect the device
2. Check and note the COM port number- Plug in the USB to Serial adapter to the PC USB port. Windows should detect the driver as Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port
- Go to Device Manager and check for the“Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port” device; notethe COM port number assigned by Windows

3. Create manually two folders on the PC hard disk C:\ named “rfx” and “out”
First create the C:\rfx folder, then create the
“out” folder into it. They are needed to store
the usage reports of the software.
4. Create manually a folder MEMWRITER directly on the PC hard disk C:\
Extract the Memwriter PC.zip package directly into this folder.

5. Run the Memwriter by double-clicking on MemWriterInterface.exe
It’s an .exe file so it requires no installation in the PC registers and no administrative rights.
6. Select the desired language in the menu item “OPTIONS”

7. Set up the usage mode
Clicking on “COMET” in the upper menu bar and selecting “COMET Setup” the software configuration parameters will be enabled.
If available, any previous configuration value will be shown.
The set up panel can be unblocked by the password: MEMCOM261108
SELECT:
• Mode: Server DataBase = use the Indesit Server REMOTE ASSISTANCE for setting or eeprom file download (WARNING: don’t select “Local DataBase”, otherwise you will receive the error “ASSOCIATION DATABASE PATH MISSING”. The Mode “Local DataBase” is used only for UK MARKET)
• Technician Numeric Code = numeric code (6 digits) identifying the technician

8. File downloading
• COMET mode allows setting file search by:
- reading data from the connected main board(“Get From Hardware” mode) - WARNING! If theboard is brand new, it won’t provide any dataand you’ll get an error
- inserting manually both the commercial code (oreven better the full industrial code) and the serialnumber (“Commercial Code” mode)
•Select the relevant electronic platform of theconnected main board (please refer to appendix forelectronic platform identification)
• Select the black hardware key icon
• Select the relevant connection used in order tocommunicate with the hardware key (SERIAL/USBor BLUETOOTH)
• Select the COM Port on which the Hardware Keywas installed (refer to point 2) and click OPEN. Thegreen light indicator will switch on.
• Subsequently click the SEARCH button

Indesit Server grants (Username + Password)are required only at first usage, and will bestored for subsequent accesses.Username and Password will be supplied byIndesit Company.
Make sure that the fields “Serial Number” and“Industrial Code” contain the correct numbers.
Download is started by the specific button; theClose button exits from this window.
You can change your password by clicking on the settings icon.
You need to enter the old password and the new one that you want to use. Click in order to save, or click in order to go back.

The same Indesit server grants user / password and IMEI have to be inserted on the Remote Assistance web site.

Before clicking OK button in this pop-up you must connect to the household appliance (i.e. the “eldo”)
If the setting file being written to the board is the same as the one already present, you will get a warning pop-up. Click YES if you want to overwrite the setting file.
Now the details of the setting file will be visible in the upper section of the memwriter.

In order to write the setting file to the main board click the button “Download”
The process will be shown as a blue progress bar.
During the download process the hardware key will show flashing ORANGE and RED LEDs.
At the end the final result message will be displayed.
Programming is over.
Exit the program and disconnect the hardware key.

ERROR DESCRIPTION: The memwriter cannot read the IDENTification TABLE of the electronic board.
TROUBLESHOOTING:1. Check that the Com port is correctly selected.2. Ensure that the black hardware key icon (see par. 8) is being selected3. The module may not have any firmware loaded (unable to be programmed)4. Check the board and/or the hardware key is properly powered5. Check the connection between the board and the hardware key6. Check to be within the Bluetooth range7. Check for any communication interference (e.g.: very strong magnetic
fields, Wi-Fi interferences….)8. Check for the integrity of the connection cables9. Ensure that the software drivers are properly installed

ERROR DESCRIPTION: The memwriter cannot communicate with the hardware key
TROUBLESHOOTING:
1.Ensure that the black hardware key icon (see par. 8) is being selected2.Check that the appliance is connected to the mains supply / the hardware
key is powered. 3.Check the connection between the board and the hardware key 4.Check to be within the Bluetooth range5.Check for any communication interference (e.g.: very stronge magnetic
fields, Wi-Fi interferences….)6.Check for the integrity of the connection cables
ERROR DESCRIPTION: The selected Hardware Key icon is wrong
TROUBLESHOOTING:1.Wrong hardware key icon (see par. 8) selected in
Communication Settings. Select the black hardware key setting

ERROR DESCRIPTION: There was an error when the Memwriter tried to
communicate with the applianceTROUBLESHOOTING:1. Ensure that the correct Com port is selected2. Check that the connections (cables, plugs, connectors, ...)
are properly fixed - disconnect and re-connect several times3. Check if there are any communication problems with the
remote assistance server4. The setting file could not be present in the Remote
Assistance Server (please communicate to your Service Quality Manager)
ERROR DESCRIPTION: There was an error when the Memwriter tried to communicate with
the applianceTROUBLESHOOTING:Check that the user interface is not standing-by. Activate the user interface and try to re-program. (pay attention expecially to the cooking and dishwashing product).

ERROR DESCRIPTION: There was an error when checking the downloaded setting fileTROUBLESHOOTING:1. Try to download the setting file again2. Check if you are programming the correct C+8 for the intended
appliance
ERROR DESCRIPTION: There was an error when the Memwriter tried to communicate with the applianceTROUBLESHOOTING:1. You can get this error message when trying to program an EVO I board. Just try to re-program.If the error message pops-up in the verification step, the board was correctly written anyway.

ERROR DESCRIPTION: The Com port is not open
TROUBLESHOOTING1. The Com port is closed. Open the port in Communication
Settings.
ERROR DESCRIPTION: The memwriter cannot read any data from the appliance
TROUBLESHOOTING1.Check the appliance type (i.e.: the correct electronic platform)
in Target Settings2.Check that the appliance is connected to the mains supply /
the hardware key is powered3.Ensure that the black hardware key icon (see par. 8) is being
selected

ERROR DESCRIPTION: There was an error trying to open the COM port
TROUBLESHOOTING1.Ensure that the USB cable is connected before opening the Com port2.Check if the correct COM port has been selected (in Menu Windows -
Control Panel - Device Manager see the COM port where the hardware key was installed (USB or Bluetooth))
ERROR DESCRIPTION: The setting file is not compatible with the electronic board
TROUBLESHOOTING1. The file to be loaded on the board is from a different electronic platform
than the firmware on the board. Check the file on the server

ERROR DESCRIPTION: The MemWriter is trying to load the setting file from a local database,
but no folder was specified.TROUBLESHOOTING1. Check that the “Server Database” in the “COMET Setup” dialog box
is checked, and that the “Local Database” is unchecked
ERROR DESCRIPTION: The downloaded setting file is not correct for the intended boardTROUBLESHOOTING1. The setting file was not properly downloaded from the server. Try
and download it again2. A wrong platform was selected (e.g.: downloading an Arcadia file
setting on a EVO2 board). Select the correct platform (see par. 8)

ERROR DESCRIPTION: There was an error when the memwriter try to erase the old setting
file (maybe an interference when the SW is going to erase). TROUBLESHOOTING1. Disconnect the mainboard from the power alimentation for one
minute. Just try programming once again2. Use the white HW Key. If you have bought it after 04/2014 it has
the new firmware, otherwise be sure that it has been re-flashed with the new firmware.
ERROR DESCRIPTION: The version of memwriter that is used is an old version, and doesn’t
support the intended boardTROUBLESHOOTING1. Install the last released version of memwriter and try again to
program the board.

ERROR DESCRIPTION: The error message "I/O generic error" is an error message that
identifies that something went wrong during erasing or writing of the flash memory.
TROUBLESHOOTING1. Problem during the communication with the board. Just try
programming once again.2. The hardware key was disconnected during the downloading
causing a timeout. Just try programming once again.3. An area of the flash memory of the board is damaged. Order
another board and try to program it.
