Gains its strength & effectiveness from its…

dedicated members (investors). Serving as a voluntary organization of small and large businesses, professionals, and interested individuals who join together to advance the interests of the community. We help to both keep business in the area and attract new business, which, of course, generates tax revenue and increased services. Our members represent the best leadership, business and organizational resources in Ashland County and the surrounding area.

At the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce, we firmly believe that the strength of any community is in its business sector. A strong business community generates jobs for the citizens, philanthropy money to support non-profit organizations, and tax money to pay for necessary government functions.

The Chamber leverages its members’ resources to take on the tasks they can’t do alone: tasks like promoting legislation that enhances free enterprise and public services to make the community a better place to live and work. We have a wide range of services available to aid our 544 members: including businesses, government agencies, individuals, and non-profit organizations. p u t

Our Vision To be the first choice business resource!

Our Mission We advocate for the growth and prosperity of our business community through dynamic leadership, education and services.

Our Guiding Principles The core values of our Board and Staff are:

Integrity- We maintain a high level of integrity, ethics and respectfulness for each other and those in the community. We will be candid, fair, professional and honor our commitments.

Accountability- We will comply with all legal requirements for governance of our organization and be good stewards of the investments made by our

membership.

Excellence- We will deliver innovative programs, services, products, opportunities and technologies that will have value for our members and be respectful of their time and financial commitment to our organization.

Relevance - We will be an integral part of the community by upholding the commitment to growth and development of our organization, our staff members, our individual members, our businesses and organizations, as well as the communities we serve.

Diversity - We will view diversity in gender, culture, ethnicity, professional background, political affiliation and size of firm/organization as strengths to be sought and utilized as beneficial to the Chamber and our programs.

ADVOCATING FOR OUR BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITY The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce is the central agency that corrals the forces of the community for its improvement and development: in business, in industry, and in the professions. We serve in the following roles for the benefit of our member businesses and community residents:

The Voice of Business - Through the Chamber, you can voice your views on legislation, taxes, civic affairs, employment, trade, transportation and other important matters. Joined with the opinions of other civic and business leaders, your ideas are amplified through a cooperative “voice of business” and acquire additional strength.

Government Connections - The Chamber is your representative on the local, regional, state and national level. Make personal connections with local, state, and national officials who have your best interest at heart.

Legislative Issues Tracking - The Chamber and our Business Advocacy Committee regularly track local, state, and national legislative issues and identify those that may impact our local businesses and community.

Business Resource Center - We use resources provided by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE), and the U.S. Chamber to identify other important state and federal issues affecting business (such as employment laws, energy mandates, and the state budget)

BUSINESS ADVOCACY / LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE The following is a current list of leaders involved in our Business Advocacy / Legislative Affairs Committee. Feel free to contact them with questions about issues affecting your business.

An organization that helps train new leaders in our community.

What Are We... The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce is the business community working together. It is the central agency that corrals the forces of the community for its improvement and development: in business, in industry, and in the professions.

A New Business Partner - The Chamber is your most valuable, yet lowest paid employee, taking as much interest as a partner but leaving you the boss. Entire committees of top flight business and professional executives voluntarily work to improve your business opportunities and living enjoyment.

Another Pair of Eyes - The Chamber is Ashland’s only business organization working full-time, looking at and attending to many details of making our area an even better place to live and earn a living. Yes, it provides eyes of specialized observers who maintain a watch on those matters that affect every citizen in the community.

Another Voice - Through the Chamber, you can voice your views on legislation, taxes, civic affairs, employment, trade, transportation and other important matters. Joined with the opinions of other civic and business leaders, your ideas are amplified through a cooperative “voice of business” and acquire addition-al strength.

• Another Pair of Hands - The Chamber staff answers hundreds of inquiries a year relative to every imagi-nable question concerning the city and area. These inquiries would go unanswered if there were no Chamber of Commerce. The goodwill and accurate information furnished has an incalculable value to the Ashland area.

• A Tireless Salesperson - The Chamber provides a wealth of information needed by prospective industrialists, visitors, potential residents, and local businesses who are interested in learning more about the Ashland area - from relocation packets to industrial guides and Ashland maps.

• Another Front Office - The Chamber is the place where visitors gain their first impression of the hospital-ity and soundness of our community. This office reflects the energetic outlook of our civic leaders and business community. It is a rallying point for community development.

• A Necessary Business Investment - In the same relationship to your business as rent, lighting, advertising and payroll, your membership investment should never be considered a contribution.

• A Business Advocate - One voice raised in defense of a right, or one person or business taking on a project, is often weak and ineffectual. But when many voices are raised and many people work together in community affairs, much is achieved.

Buy IN Ashland Program

Support Ashland—Buy Local: When you buy from a small local business. . . You are not helping a CEO buy a third home… You are helping a little girl get dance lessons, a little boy get his team jersey, a mom put food on the table, a dad pay a mortgage or a student pay for college.

Why should we by local?

Mom and Pop shops rely on the customers within their town to keep coming back on a daily or weekly basis. Big box stores have much more financial stability than your local shops, so without a constant stream of revenue, you may see your favorite local store go out of business in no time.

Tax Base. By shopping locally, more sales tax is being gen-

erated by your favorite local stores, and that tax can be used within your community.

Jobs. Local shops employ local residents; which means there will be more job opportunities within your community.

Product Diversity. Local shops need to stock their stores with products that their customers want, so if you have many local shops, there will be a much broader range of product choices.

Competition. By having a multitude of local stores within your com-munity, all of the stores will need to keep their prices competi-tive in order to gain your business.

Community Well Being. By shopping locally, you will most likely run into your friends and family more often, which helps unite the community together as a whole. Resource:
