From the Desk of Paul Craven The warm weather has certainly arrived and with it the usual array of summer activities. We had a great turnout
for the Memorial Day cookout to open up the summer
season. The palm trees and extra tables at the pool have
been a big hit and bode well for another great summer.
The week-long golf course closure in mid-May proved
again to be a success. Course Superintendent Greg Tharp
and his team were able to complete all of the course aerification and fertilizing early in the week which
allowed them to work the remainder of the week on a
number of other projects to enhance the course conditions.
As a result, the recovery of the greens have been faster than in the past; and playing conditions will be ideal for the summer season.
I am very excited to announce the promotion of Adam Abbott to Clubhouse Manager.
Adam has worked tirelessly and closely with the food and beverage team in growing
this area which has resulted in a 25% increase in member dining over the last two years. Additionally, we have seen significant growth in the banquet side of the Club business.
With this new title comes additional responsibility. While still overseeing the food and
beverage operations, Adam is now responsible for the Club’s fitness, maintenance, and locker room departments. Please join me in congratulating Adam on this much deserved
promotion!
The Club just completed the resurfacing of our seven original clay courts. Director of
Tennis Bill Gist is very happy with the final product. Approximately six tons of clay were added to each court which was then laser graded and rolled. As a result, these original
courts as good as new, draining perfectly and quite a bit firmer than they have been. You’ll
find no better conditions for clay court tennis than in your own back yard!
We had a successful prospective member event turnout at the end of April and have experienced a number of new member sign-ups in May. These are exciting times for the
Club that we all hope will continue. Take a good look at the newsletter to ensure you don’t
miss any of the many activities taking place during the month!
There’s no better place to enjoy the summer than Jacksonville Golf and Country Club!
See you around the Club.
Paul Craven

Notes from the Pro: Ray Barr
Holes-In-One: April 25 - Wayne Flynn recorded the best possible hole-in-one during the second round of the Men’s
Annual Member-Member. The target prize hole #6 awarded Wayne $5,000 for making the first ACE of
the day. His shot of 154 yards using a 7-iron was the first shot of the day to kick off his round! A special thanks to Bob Burke Coastal RE/MAX for sponsoring the hole-in-one contests for the
Member-Member! Congratulations to both! (Pictured, right)
May 6 - Assistant Pro Adam Eiswerth recorded his first ACE of his golf career. The shot came on
hole #3 during Men’s E-9. Adam hit an 8-iron from 155 yards and earned him a big 8 points for the game. Congratulations!
Personal Bests: April 25 - John Harris capped off a wonderful ending to his Member-Member tournament by posting
his career best round of 77 in the second round. Admittedly, he had been playing quite well of late, but this was an unexpected surprise round of +5 on the day. Great playing!
April 25 - Rod Fullerton & Jim Trado paired together to be quite formidable as a team of experienced golfers in the Member-Member! Both managed to ham-in-egg their two rounds to post a
great win in their flight. Both also posted fine rounds beating their ages with their golf scores. Rod
posted an awesome 76 in the second round beating his age by 4 and Jim posted an 80 in the first round beating his age by 3.
Ladies E-3 is back - June 4th & 18th will be our schedule of Ladies Only Emergency 3 Holes! The offering is for any adult females of JGCC to come out and play 3 holes, have a glass of wine, snacks and some stories about the round! Handicaps are not
necessary, and beginners and veterans alike are encouraged to participate. We have some new lady golfers getting out and this
could turn out to be quite fun!! Call 223-6910 the morning of June 4th to sign up for a 6pm shotgun start! Players will meet at
5:30pm at the Tournament Pavilion for a glass of wine and a short pre-game “tip” from our professional staff and then play will start on the front nine holes.
Private Golf Outing - Thursday, June 18th The Board of Governors has approved a member –sponsored outing with N.E.F.A.R.
hosting a golf fundraiser for 75 golfers for an 8:30am shotgun. The driving range will be open to all member use after the shotgun
start and throughout the day. All member play will be available that afternoon beginning at 1pm. There will be a few of our JGCC members participating, as this event is a revenue opportunity for JGCC. Thank you all for supporting events like this when a JGCC
member, as a business leader in our community, can showcase our course for a day!
Summer Activities for Current & Prospective 9-Holers!
Another year has flown by! I think everyone who participated this season would agree that it was one of our best! It was highlighted by fun times on the course, challenging Interclub tournaments,
and wonderful lunches at the club house but, most of all, by good friends and camaraderie enjoyed each week!
We want to continue our play informally on Thursday mornings with 2 or 3 tee times set aside for us starting at 9am. You need not be a paid member of the 9-Holers to play, and we encourage any
level of golfer to come out and play with us! Just call the Pro Shop to get a spot, 223-6910.
Any golfers interested in learning more about our group, please contact Terrie Schleiter at [email protected].

Golf Updates
JUNIOR GOLF UPDATE:
Our junior golf program is gaining some momentum of recent months. New to our Club is the PGA Junior Golf League. This is our
first year participating in the Jr. League. We have had some great
success to date with the following members of the Team: Patton
Avera, Sofia Davila, Noah Folkesson-Doudy, Mia Grabowski,
Carter Harris, Ryan Keirnan, Andrew & Luke Kunkle, J.T.
Leahy, Holden Mendez, John & Michael Miniotas, Julia
Wallace, Braxton Worley & Joey Valinho.
Matches already under way and are contested against Sawgrass CC, South Hampton, Deerwood CC and San Jose CC. We have had some great practice sessions that began in April and will continue through mid-July, along with the matches. Our Junior Golf
Camp sessions open with an All Sports Camp including Golf June 9-12 and Week I of Golf Camp June 16-19. Registration is
online and in the Golf Shop.
The LGA anticipates the beginning of their Summer League play. Our first meet is Tuesday, June 2nd, with Sawgrass at JGCC. On the following Tuesdays we will meet teams from Eagle Harbor, TPC Valley, Deerwood, and Amelia River. We play each club home and away. Summer League teams are made of three teams of two A, B, & C players from the two clubs playing a match play format. Best ball of foursome wins the hole for the 18 holes. Summer League is held in June and July with play-offs in
August. Mary Rice and Kay Lemmon are captains this summer and determine the best combinations of JGCC ladies for each week of play. Ladies, don't forget to contact the Pro Shop for regular Tuesday play. You are on your own if not playing League
that Tuesday. Continue to enjoy the great game of golf this summer.
LGA 18-Holers
The LGA closed their fall through spring season with a fun day on the course. At the luncheon/meeting on May 21st, new
officers were elected.
