CWA Mission, Vision and Values StatementThe CWA is a professional association, representing all those who are interested in, and practising in, the fieldofconstructedwetlandtechnology.

Our aim is two fold:•Toprovidequalityassurance,establishandmaintainthehigheststandardsof

design, installation, performance and maintenance of these systems through research, training, seminars, conferences, peer review and accreditation.

•Topromotetheuseofconstructedwetlandsforpollutioncontrolincludingwastewatertreatment, surface water run-off management, habitat enhancement and protection of our natural water resources, by the application of good environmental practice.

MissionStatement The CWA was formed to promote the application of constructed wetland technology in wastewater management and water pollution control.

VisionStatement The CWA works on behalf of its members to promote the awareness of constructed wetland technology in water pollution control and takes a lead role in advocacy for the application of constructed wetlands in pollution prevention and habitat creation. The CWA visualises an industry in which best practice is shared and standards are upheld.

There are several categories of membership designed to cater for individuals who have a general interest in constructed wetlands including students, academics, and researchers.The Association also has memberships for companies who design and construct wetlands, suppliers, charitiesandNonProfitOrganisations,thePublicSector(suchasregulators)andaretirementcategory for those who are no longer actively involved in constructed wetlands but wish to remain informed of the Associations activities. CorporateMembershipcategoryaimed at company level, has three tiers according to the annual turnover. Corporate members have the ability to becomeanAccreditedMember.AccreditedMembersarerequiredtofulfilcertaincriteria.Theseinclude(butarenotlimitedto):•Aminimumoftwoyearspracticalexperiencewithconstructedwetlands.

•Casestudiesorresearchandsuccessfulprojects.•Fulldetailsondesign,construction

and performance of a minimum of 3 constructed wetland systems, complete with photographic evidence.

•Testimonialsasevidenceofcustomersatisfaction.•HaveanH&S,Environmentaland

Quality Assurance Policies.Accreditation will be valid for 4 years and the application process will be carried out by agroupof3suitablyqualifiedexperts.Forfull details on the Accreditation Process and associated fees, please look at our website.

Membership FeesMemberswillpayanannualmembership fee.The level of the fee will be approved by MembersattheAnnualGeneralMeetingupona recommendation from the CWA committee. Current fees are published on our website.

1 INDIVIDUAL This category is suitable for individuals who have an interest in Constructed Wetlands, such as academics and researchers or those who have a general interest. Accreditation is not available for this membership category.

2 STUDENT Membershipisavailabletostudentswishingtohaveaccesstothedatabase,suitablestudentIDandletterfromthesupervisorisrequiredwhenapplyingforthiscategory.

3 CORPORATE Corporate membership is suitable for companies who are suppliers, or provide a design, construction, or consultancy services for constructed wetlands. Membershipissplitinto3tiersdependingontheannualturnover.*

4 ACCREDITED CorporateMemberscangothroughanapplicationprocesstobecomeAccredited. Accredited members advertise their services as being accredited by the CWA with the use of the CWA accredited logo.

5 CHARITY&NPO Thiscategoryissuitableforcharities,NotforProfitOrganisationsandacademic institutes with an interest in constructed wetlands.

6 PUBLICSECTOR This category is suitable for those working in the public sector such as governmental departments and the regulators.

7 RETIRED SuitableforindividualswhoarenolongeractivelyinvolvedinconstructedwetlandsbutwishtoremaininformedoftheAssociation’sactivities.

DatabaseThe Constructed Wetland Association database contains design parameters, applications and performance data for over 1200 constructed wetland sites.The CWA aims to increase the capacity of this database to include data from across the globe making it a useful tool for both academic and commercial enterprises. The database records allbonafidepractitionersinthisfield,namelydesigners, contractors, users, researchers and suppliers of specialist materials.Thedatabaseislocatedinthe‘membersonly’area of the website. This is a live database andwillbeupdatedcontinually.Itispartofthe membership agreement that members contribute to the common group knowledge andarerequiredtoagreetothesubmissionof performance data for their systems where available.DatawillthenbeenteredupontheCWADatabaseforthebenefitofallthe Association members. We ask that new members work to a twelve month timeframe for this information to be passed to the CWA committee for membership to be retained.

Knowledge SharingThe CWA promotes the use of constructed wetlands through research, seminars, conferencesandCPDtraining.We host annual conferences around the UK, and haveajointonlineCPDcourseonconstructedwetlandsinconjunctionwithCIWEM.Weoffera travel award to members that have been accepted to present at any wetland conference or meeting on a topic that has an applied application. Inadditionwehave2travelawardsavailablefor students to attend the CWA conference whichincludes1yearsmembership.Formoreinformationoneligibilityandrequirementstoapply for a travel award, please visit our website.

ConstituencyAll members in good standing will be entitled to attend CWA meetings and participate in all activities.Non-membersmaybeinvitedtoattendbutwillnotbe entitled to vote.

ANANNUALGENERALMEETINGWILLBEHELDTO:•Receivereportsontheactivitiesand

progress of the Association.•ToelecttheCWAcommittee.•Receivetechnicalpresentations.MeetingsinadditiontotheAnnualGeneralMeetingwill be arranged as appropriate. All meetings will be chaired by the Chairman of the CWA committee. IntheabsenceoftheChairmanamemberofthecommittee will take the chair.

CWACOMMITTEEThe CWA committee is responsible for organising theactivitiesoftheAssociation.Itwillcomprise:•AChairman.•ASecretary.•ATreasurer.•AtleastONEothermember(butnomorethanTHREEothermembers).

All members of the Association in good standing are eligible to be elected to the CWA committee.

ELECTIONTOTHECWACOMMITTEEThe elected representatives serving on the CWA committeeshallserveforaperiodofTWOyears.EachelectedrepresentativeshallretireattheAnnualGeneralMeetingattheendoftheirtwoyear period but shall be eligible for re-election.ElectedrepresentativesmayretireatanytimeandtheCWAcommitteemayfillanycasualvacancy but any person so appointed shall retireatthenextsucceedingAnnualGeneralMeetingandwillbeeligibleforre-election.The membership will be informed of any vacancies on the CWA committee in advance of theAnnualGeneralMeetingandnominationssought.Candidateswillrequirethesupportoftwo members of the Association in good standing toactasaproposerandseconder.Electedrepresentatives offering themselves for re-election must also have the support of two members in good standing acting as proposer and seconder.ElectiontotheCWAcommitteewillbebyamajorityvotebyMembersattheAnnualGeneralMeeting.

CODEOFETHICSCondition of membership is that members complywiththeAssociationCodeofEthics.The purpose of the Code is to:•Setprofessionalstandardsandqualificationsfor

environmental stewardship and sustainability.•Manageouractivities,productsandservices

with consideration for the environment in a manner consistent with our values.

•Maintainandsupportahighstandardofprofessional behaviour and service with integrity.
