ECKANKAR: Religion of the Light and Sound of God
Eckankar teaches that there is an audible life current known as the ECK, or Holy Spirit, that connects each of us with the heart of God. We can experience the ECK as Light and
Sound. Through study and practice of the Spiritual Exercises of ECK, we learn to recognize the Light and Sound of God as It touches our lives and brings increased divine love.
The spiritual leader of Eckankar is the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master, Sri Harold Klemp. The Mahanta is the inner, or spiritual form of the Living ECK Master. The Mahanta gives inner guidance through dreams, Soul Travel, and the Spiritual Exercises of ECK. Harold Klemp’s inspiring talks and writings, and his practical approach to spirituality, help thousands of people worldwide find greater freedom, wisdom and love. His teachings uplift and help people recognize their own experiences with the Light and Sound of God.

ECKANKAR, the Religion of Light and Sound, will be represented at this year's Parliament of World Reli-gions. The Parliament of World Religions, which meets every 4 or 5 years in cities around the world, will meet at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City from Thursday, October 15th through Monday, October 19th. An ECKANKAR workshop is scheduled for Monday at 12:15 p.m. and is being presented by Leonard Gierach from Canada and Genevieve Marie from Australia. The title of this workshop is “Soul Equals Soul: Building Interfaith Connections.” In addition, the Utah Satsang Society, an affiliate of ECKANKAR will have a booth display on exhibit throughout the weekend. ECK volunteers will be avail-able at the booth to answer any questions and ready to listen to the spiritual experiences of Parliament at-tendees. Linda Anderson from Minnesota, author of 35 Golden Keys to Who You Are & Why You're Here will
ECKANKAR AT Parliament of World Religions
be available to sign her book and help tend the booth. From its beginning in 1893 in Chicago, the Parliament has brought together followers of Eastern and Western spiritu-al traditions. The goal is to promote understanding be-tween people of different backgrounds. It is expected that there will be 10,000 people attending this year’s Parliament, representing 80 nations and 50 faiths. Friday through Monday there will be plenary ses-sions with these themes: women’s rights; climate change; war, violence and hate; economic inequality; indigenous people; and emerging leaders. Dr. Jane Goodall will be one of the speakers. The Parliament asks that each individual (whether or not you attend) make a personal commitment to compassion, peace, justice and sustainability. For more information, please visit their website www.Parliamentofreligions.org.
How to Have More Divine Love in Your Life
Fran Blackwell, a 45-year member of ECKANKAR who currently lives in Florida, was in Utah August 8th to present her workshop “How to Have More Divine Love in Your Life.”
She quoted several times from the book Stranger by the River by Paul Twitchell and had video clips of talks by Harold Klemp at major seminars.
God already loves us, and the issue for us is to learn how to accept this love. We must love ourselves before we can accept the love of an-other, even God.
Singing HU changes how we see ourselves and opens our hearts to accept more love. When we do a spiritual exercise, it gives service to all life in the name of the Mahanta. Understand that giving service is giving love and try to do something every day just for love, with no thought of reward or recognition. One small act of love can lift all life.
We can practice loving ourselves and others, and make no mistake, it takes lots of practice. Practice compassion. Practice listening. Practice letting another person be right. Practice slowing down to the rhythm of God’s love. Consider making your goal to “Be Love.”
Provo Picnic
Please join us at 12 noon on Sunday, Octo-ber 4th for a pot-luck meal with fun and fel-lowship afterwards. The location is Nunns Park, 2017 North Can-yon Road in Provo. This is the site of the first hydroelectric pow-er plant in America, where the Provo River water flow was har-nessed to provide elec-tricity for the nearby mining operations in 1897. See what remind-ers you can find of this history.
Bring a dish to share. All friends and family members are welcome. There are trails for hik-ing or biking as well as open areas for contem-plation.
