REGISTRATION MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
The NRRPT Registration Maintenance Program is designed to help assure that Registered Radiation Protection Technologists (RRPTs) continue to maintain their professional qualification. The program requires RRPTs to participate in professional development activities after their initial registration, and it monitors those activities on a periodic basis. Meeting the requirements of the program is mandatory to maintain active registration. In addition, the RRPT must maintain membership in the Registry for the entire maintenance cycle. The Registration Maintenance Program began January 1, 1999 and requires 20 points to be earned in each five-year cycle. The cycle begins and ends on a calendar year basis, i.e., begins January 1 of the first year of the cycle and ends December 31 of the last year of the cycle. All points must be earned within the cycle to which they apply. For RRPTs registered on or before January 1, 1999, the first cycle will begin on that date. The first cycle for those registered after January 1, 1999, will begin on January 1 of the year following registration. If you have comments or questions please contact Mark Bayless, Continuing Education Committee Chairman at [email protected]. COLLEGE CREDITS The American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) has evaluated and recommended college credit for 1 of the NRRPT courses. The American Council on Education, the major coordinating body for all the nation's higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives. ACE CREDIT connects workplace learning with colleges and universities by helping adults gain access to academic credit at colleges and universities for formal courses and examinations taken in the workplace or other settings outside traditional higher education. For more than 30 years, colleges and universities have trusted ACE CREDIT to provide reliable course equivalency information to facilitate their decisions to award academic credit. For more information, visit the ACE CREDIT website http://www.acenet.edu/acecredit.

McMaster Nuclear Reactor
The McMaster Nuclear Reactor (MNR) first became operational in 1959 and was the first university-based research reactor in the British Commonwealth. Originally designed to operate at a maximum power of 1
MW, MNR was upgraded during the 1970s to its current rating of 5 MW with a maximum thermal neutron flux of 1 x 1014 neutrons/cm2s. MNR is classified as a medium flux reactor and it is by far the most powerful
research reactor at a Canadian university – the handful of so-called “Slowpoke” reactors at other institutions typically operate at a power of 0.02 MW.
