The Club, named after Lieutenant General Sir John Monash, one of Australia’s greatest soldiers, commenced in 1946. A property in Elanora Heights was purchased and towards the end of 1947, the bulldozers went to work clearing the property in readiness for the actual work of building the course.

A hut was purchased from the Air Force as a temporary clubhouse and plans were implemented to build a permanent structure that would be in keeping with the golf course itself.

In 1950, the first 9 holes were opened for play, and in 1952, the Clubhouse was finished. Things have not always gone smoothly. During 1957, the Club was suffering from one of the worst droughts in history and in December of that year, the Clubhouse was gutted when a bush fire swept through the property. Things were soon back on track with a much bigger and more luxurious Clubhouse completed in 1959, and the Club raised to Group 1 status by the New South Wales Golf Association.

Situated on the Ingleside escarpment, Monash Country Club has spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean to the East and is bordered by the Garigal National Park to the West.

Conveniently located just off Mona Vale Road and accessed via Powderworks Road, getting to the Club from either the Northern Beaches or the Lower North Shore couldn’t be easier.

Only 40 minutes drive from the Sydney CBD, you enter the Hyman Eizenberg Drive where the stresses of modern day life drift away as the tranquillity of Monash and its magnificent golf course takes hold.

Come and enjoy!

The James Herd Scott designed course opened in 1950. The acclaimed par 72 layout sits high in the hills of Ingleside on the beautiful Northern Beaches of Sydney, with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean from the Clubhouse and course alike.

The sense of serenity as you drive down the tree lined driveway is one all golfers should experience. Even though the course is challenging, it still allows golfers of all abilities to enjoy themselves; which is a true testament to its design.

In 1964 and 1984, the Club held two Australian PGA Championships; the first won by the Club’s professional Col Johnston and the later by Greg Norman, arguably Australia’s best male golfer.

The course is listed at 90 in the latest list of Australia’s Top 100 Golf Courses by Australian Golf Digest. With further course improvements in the near future, we can expect the course to receive even greater honours.

THE COURSE

In 2012, the Club appointed Bob Harrison of Harrison Golf to reinvigorate the Monash course. The main objective being to improve green design style, while also upgrading the drainage and irrigation around them.

Bob Harrison has designed or facilitated the design of courses such as Ellerston (The Packer’s family course), New South Wales, Moonah at The National,

The Glades, Brookwater, Nirwana Bali (often voted the best golf course in Asia) and many others.

Members of Monash approved his plans and the Club has since opened 3 new green sites. The 2nd, 3rd and 8th holes. A remodelling of the dam on the 7th hole was also completed which resulted in significant improvement to that corner of the course.

THE FUTURE

With membership at a private golf club comes added benefits, and perhaps the best benefits are our practice facilities which many describe as the best North of the Sydney Harbour.

With a large putting green, short game area and a FULL SERVICE DRIVING RANGE, with undercover teaching facilities, all located very close to the Clubhouse, Monash has some of the best practice facilities in Sydney. Whether you only use the practice range to warm up or you love to practice, you will find all you need in one place.

Members can access the practice range depending on their membership with balls at a very modest rate. When a member brings a guest to play on the course, they also have access to these practice facilities.

With 20 mats and grass access on certain days, you will always find a spot to practice at Monash.

I live on the North Shore and was getting back into golf after a long break - I had been looking for a golf club to join for around a year. I visited and considered all my local choices plus a few others. It was important to me that the club I joined, was friendly and had a down to earth atmosphere. A great course I’d be happy playing all the time and excellent practise facilities.

PGA Professional Ian Passwell suggested I have look at Monash. I was blown away and LITERALLY signed on the spot. It was exactly what I was after - the challenging course, terrific practise chipping and putting greens as well as our own driving range.

Monash also made it very easy to join. The staff and members were very friendly from the word go.

In my humble opinion, no other club in Sydney offers the value proposition that Monash does. Yes, there are cheaper courses, but they don’t have what Monash has in terms of course and facilities.

I have been extremely happy with my choice and would recommend Monash to everyone.
