THE FRIENDS OF CHABOT COLLEGE FIFTH ANNUAL GALA

The Friends of Chabot College foundation held their fifth annual Gala on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 6 PM at TPC Stonebrae Country Club in the Hayward Hills. We honored leaders who have made sustaining contributions to Chabot College and a distinguished alumnus:

• Senator Ellen Corbett, Chabot College Professor, Alumna, and former California State Senator. She currently serves on the Board of the East Bay Regional Parks.

• Hon. S. Floyd Mori, Chabot College Professor; California State Assemblymember, National ED/CEO of the Japanese American Citizen League (JACL); President/CEO of the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies; and former Mayor of Pleasanton.

• Distinguished Alumnus Darren Lewis, former Major League Baseball Player; and former CSUEB Associate Head Baseball Coach.

Gala attendees also heard from students from exemplary Chabot programs: LUNA, My Sister’s Keeper, El Centro and the Hispanic-serving Institutions initiative, and the Entrepreneurship Program. This year, we raised over $37,000 in support of Chabot students and programs! Thank you to all of those who supported the event. Looking forward to next year!

CHABOT COLLEGE DAY HAPPY HOUR

The Friends of Chabot College (FCC) hosted a College Day Happy Hour after College Day activities on Friday, August 17, 2018. Close to 100 faculty, classified professionals and administrators gathered to bid adieu to the last day of summer with local craft beers, ice cream floats, grilled brats and some competitive games of Cornhole with the christening of our very own official Chabot Cornhole boards. FCC Board members were on-site to serve drinks and mingle with college staff. It was a great way to start the school year!

PATHWAY TO THE FUTURE BRICK FUNDRAISER

The Friends of Chabot raised $3,800 for our students through our Pathway to the Future Brick Program. Bras & Mattos Monument Co. did a great job engraving the most recent batch of bricks. If you want to see them live, visit the breezeway in front of our Building 700 Student and Community Services Building. We had some of our new retirees visit campus to see their bricks get engraved. We’ll be doing it again this year so contact the Friends of Chabot if you are interested in purchasing a brick.

ALUMNI & FRIENDS ASSOCIATIONAN EXCUSE TO EAT PIE! SOCIAL

By Anamarie Navarro, Alumni & Friends Association Member

The Alumni Association put together a wonderful celebration for Chabot 360 Alumni (Chabot employees who were also students) on October 26th 2018 to reconnect with colleagues, reminisce about their student years at Chabot, and undoubtedly eat an assortment of complimentary pie! There was a steady flow of Chabot 360 Alumni and Chabot employees coming in and out of the Student Initiative Center participating in different activities: a welcoming icebreaker, Chabot Trivia, and a Pie in the Face game. To the enjoyment of the crowd, at least 4 people were victims of whipped cream to the face. Peers mingled, shared stories about Chabot, and had a great time. Attendees also voted for where they wanted the next event which will be at Castro Valley Bowl in the spring. Sign up with the Alumni and Friends Association today so you can receive future communications.
