Paul Cunha

I joined Point West the second year of its existence, so I have been a member for over 25 years. In that time, I have worked on just about every project in some way or another including supplying the power for the Brewfest since it was first held in Discovery Park. I have done one year’s service on our board as Desiree’s Sargent at Arms and have served on many industry and community service oriented boards in the last 35 years.

Don Rodes

I, Don, was educated at Cornell with a BA in European History and at UC Berkeley with MBA with a focus on marketing. I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky; my ancestors having migrated to Virginia from England in the late 1600’s. My father was a small business owner and a Rotarian. After college I moved to California where I have lived ever since. I gave some thought to teaching but eventually opted for a business career which offered me a better income and much more flexibility. I had hoped to return to my family’s business but my father was bought out by his partner and so I took a position as a product manager with Levi Strauss. There I managed clothing products that were rapidly moving to being manufactured in Asia and Latin America. Some years later, for a better quality of life, I moved my young family to Nevada City where I owned and operated a desserts cafe and was active in the business community. In 1995 I moved to Sacramento and served as the CFO of The Safety Center, a non-profit that provides occupational and vehicular safety training. I ended my career pursuing my passion for solar energy, working in sales and marketing for a small company in Rancho Cordova until 2016. My wife Diane and I have 4 children and six grandchildren. I now serve on the board of Alliance Français and for the past two years, have served as District 5180’s Interact chairman. My hobbies are learning French, family genealogy, and European travel .

Mike Bede

I started coming to PWR meetings after I met Bea Maurer and we began dating 3 years ago. At first it was like ok, why not. After attending several meetings, I began to see a fun, slightly irreverent group of people who really cared for others and were actually doing something to change the world in which we all live in. The Satellite Club was being formed and needed people to get founded, so I joined and became the Treasurer/Secretary for it’s first year. Although I attended the Satellite’s meeting on Thursday evenings and the main club’s Friday breakfast meetings, I decided to join the main club exclusively in July of 2019. I’ve volunteered to ring the bell at Christmas for the Salvation Army, help clean up the American River, helped staff a water/snack station for the American River Bike ride, joined in with others at an elementary school handing out encyclopedias, volunteered for Festa

di Vino as well as Lunar Lunacy and the California Brewer’s Festival. I currently am the scheduler for the Friday morning Invocation speakers.

Tom Cicchini

Tom Cicchini (Cha-Key-Knee) rhymes with Bikini or Zucchini His real name is Camillo, but most people just call him Tom, the Witness Protection system at work. Tom left his family 20 years ago after several lengthy legal disputes and scandals and joined Rotary after Ed Gee asked him to. It was that simple. The year was 1998, the club, the Rotary Club of North Sacramento. Tom served as Club President for the Rotary Club of North Sacramento until being asked to leave in 2003. Tom then joined McRotary when he went over to the Rotary Club of Natomas and served as their president until he got it right. That took over 2 ½ years but the club grew from 12 to

31 members. At that time, Natomas was the only club in the world to meet at a McDonald’s. Tom was instrumental in developing Rotary’s first drive-thru make-up program. In July of 2010 he moved over to the Rotary Club of Gold River. Yes, Gold River really did have a club, and no, he never served as their President. In fact Tom joined the club as it was preparing to turn in it’s charter and today that club no longer exists, closing 9 months after it was opened. Without a club Tom searched far and wide before joining the Rotary Club of Granite Bay in 2011. While there he ran the club’s crab feed one year and for three years was their Program Chair. To no surprise, he was also Club President while there. After 8 years, he set off again in search of the ‘perfect’ club. In 2019 he found a new home and joined “The Best Damn Rotary Club on the Planet”; The Rotary Club of Point West-Sacramento. Promising never to be Club President again, Tom served as the Speech Contest Chair in his first year, Tom served as the Speech Contest Chair in his first year. On the District level, Tom served on the District’s Foundation Committee for six years and was District 5180’s Polio Plus Chair from 2006-2017. That’s like be being the dreaded, orphaned red-headed step-child since most District Governors prefer that you give to Annual Giving than to Polio Plus. But that’s okay, Tom really doesn’t like the District either. Ask him sometime about his Black Sheep pin. (Continued on next page)

Tom has served as District 5180’s Executive Secretary under DG Teichert and District Conference Chair for DG Jo Ann Lemmon when he did the Trick or Treat at Squaw Creek Conference. No, he will never ever be a District Governor. Tom’s hobbies include eating bearclaws, finding the best burger in town (right now that’s at Pangaea), pissing off the District and taking peoples’ money. He does enjoy and love the game of golf but often wonders how anyone can love something so much, that doesn’t love you back? Tom also enjoys increasing his carbon footprint and being a Rotarian. Tom has previously served on the Sacramento Police and Sheriff's Memorial Foundation Board, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Sacramento and Northern California Board (serving as Treasurer 2004-2006) and still serves as a Wish Team member. Tom also served on the YMCA of Superior California Board for 3 years and annually underwrites his “Hole” Lotta Love℠ Charity Golf Tournament with 100% of the money going to local children’s charities. Tom is a Bequest Society Member, Benefactor, Paul Harris Society member and Major Donor of The Rotary Foundation. I firmly believe Rotarians will make the world a better place and Point West Rotary is the Best Damned Rotary Club in the World!
