MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

In the life of the church, there are many ideas for serving others. Session would like to hear your ideas. Perhaps the Holy Spirit is leading you to help in one of the following ministries: 1. Bishop Care Center: We

usually go on the 4th Monday of each month to visit the

residents and host a sing-along time. 2. Bible Studies: We have many Bible Studies from which to choose. Check the calendar for times and places or call the church office (760) 872-2261. 3. Would you like to help with the Children’s Ministries of Kid’s Club Sunday School, occasional help in the Nursery on Sunday or either of our Youth Group nights? 4. Prepare food for our monthly Share Your Blessings dinner or for the fellowship table?

WOMENS RETREAT..."BISHOP POINT"...MARCH 2-4, 2018

"GOLIATH MUST FALL"

Our dedicated retreat committee began in September of 2017, praying, seeking God and planning for our annual Zephyr Point Re-treat! Our weekend in March 2-3-4, 2018, came around very quickly just after the holidays were behind us. Plans were complete and 35 women and one brave guy were registered to attend! Our John Wag-oner had agreed to come with wife Betty and bring his guitar and amp! He graciously agreed to join Kelliann as part our worship team!

We were also blessed to have 5 people flying in to the Reno airport from various desti-nations to join us in Tahoe! We had several ladies driving to Zephyr Point from out of the Bishop area too!

SO NOW...READY-SET-GO!! LET’S DRIVE TO TAHOE! AND THEN THE REST IS HISTORY!!!! OUR BIGGEST WINTER STORM OF 2018 DECIDED TO MOVE INTO THE SIERRAS! By Wednesday, February 28, we were forced to make a heartbreaking and difficult decision...CANCEL OUR PLANS TO DRIVE TO ZEPHYR POINT! Over the next 2 days, Highway 395 was closed through Bridgeport due to winter snowfall! The Lake Tahoe basin was covered with almost 3 feet of snowfall, starting on Thurs-day and continued over the next 3 days!

Our Retreat Committee rolled up their sleeves and sprang into action!! In just a mat-ter of hours we emailed everyone to advise them of our cancellation to Tahoe (Most of the airline tickets were able to be cancelled and refunded!). Then, we all began work-ing tirelessly....and we all put together new plans to turn First Presbyterian Church

into "BISHOP POINT CONFERENCE CENTER" We completely transformed the main sanctuary rearranging all tables and chairs and etc. We set up our skit theatre with props and costumes, arranged our worship equipment on the stage, got an awesome weekend meal plan put together (Sonja blessed our dessert table with 6 delicious homemade pies!).

In a matter of just hours we were ready! By 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon we welcomed our 30 ladies and one guitar guy (John Wagoner!) for an incredible "GOLIATH MUST

FALL" retreat extravaganza!! WITH THE LORDS LEADING AND HIS PLANS ...WE WERE ABLE TO PUT TOGETHER THE MOST AMAZING 2 DAY RETREAT EVENT AT F.P.C....and we never even had to leave Bishop!! WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE!! By 9:45 p.m. Saturday evening, our retreat weekend was wrapped up...the sanctuary was cleaned, and vacuumed....all the chairs were put back together and ready for Sunday morning services!! SO MANY THANKS TO SO MANY OF YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HELPING HANDS AND GENEROUS HEARTS...and once again..."WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE!" Love, thanks and many blessings to our incredible church family...from the Women's Retreat Committee...Lynette McIntosh, Kris Lang-ley, Marilee Knight, Bonnie Ipsen, Christy Morton, Rebecca Britton, Susan Jensen, Diane Jackson and Liesa Comeau.

P.S....Just a fun note ...John almost wore his guitar out playing on our retreat worship team...he strummed his guitar so hard he actually made sawdust on it!! We were raising the roof worshipping the Lord together!! WHAT AN AMAZING TIME!

Continued from the previous page…

This is the time of the year when the Retreat Committee makes a contract with Zephyr Point Pres-byterian Conference Center for our next retreat. Because of the weather this year and last year the committee made the difficult decision not to go to Zephyr Point any longer. It was becoming more and more difficult for some of our ladies to get there (driving from Bishop and other places) and more and more exhausting as well. So, we made the decision to end our relationship with Zephyr Point and make our own conference center here in Bishop. Below is the reply Lynette McIntosh gave Christie Laremore at the conference center:

From: [email protected] Date: March 28, 2018 at 2:27:32 PM PDT To: Conference <[email protected]> Subject: Re: Zephyr Point 2019 Dates - FPC Bishop

Christie... It is with great regrets...our Bishop First Presbyterian Woman's Retreat will no longer be coming to Zephyr Point for our annual women's retreat. Our committee has made the decision to no longer make the trip to Zeph-yr for several reasons...we are all getting too old for all of the work it takes to put on our retreat...our husbands included! Our numbers have been slowly declining over the past 5 years. So many of our ladies cannot make the 4 hour drive up to Tahoe for the same reasons. The March snowstorms over the last two years have been another factor in our decision...no one wants to take anymore chances on the crazy weather! We have also discussed changing the dates to another week-end...and that didn't work either. We were able to put on a great women's retreat in Bishop over the snow storm, March 2-3-4 weekend at our church...we called our change of weather location..."BISHOP POINT!" WE ALL HEARD FROM THE LORD THAT OUR FUTURE RETREATS WERE TO BE IN BISHOP! We have had so many amazing Zephyr Point Retreats over the past 20 years...it breaks all of our hearts to let go of our Tahoe weekend...but now is the time. We love you all and will miss the Zephyr family greatly...love and be blessed by the Lord…

Lynette McIntosh and the FPC Women's Retreat Committee

(It is the hope of the Retreat Committee that this will mean a new beginning for our retreats for our Women’s Ministries here at First Presbyterian Bishop. We are already thinking about exciting things we can do here in Bishop and the many possibilities that will be made available to include more women from this area. )

He still will be on antibiotics for a time so please do not forget to keep him prayer. March Financials: Budgeted: $41,890 Received: $36,678

I (Lynette) JUST received this card in the mail to all of us from one of the gals that attended the retreat...her note said .... "I want to thank you and all the ladies that worked so hard to put our retreat together. I was exhausted by the end of Sat. and wanted to head home, but I did not. Was I thankful for staying. I'm excited about the idea of literally dying to self. It is the cherry on top of the sundae! God uses all of you gals to open our hearts and minds to better understand the Word of God!"
