Introduction

Below you will find a synopsis of my educational and career experiences that I

have strategically developed into my Career Portfolio. The goal of my Career Portfolio is

for the viewer to be able to connect and have a brief overall outlook on the overall growth

and achievements that I have acquired throughout my career both professional and

educational. I feel that the motivation and beliefs behind my personality and goals

should be included in my portfolio because I feel it’s important to know my background

and the factors that shaped me into the person I am today.

I will start with my educational goals and achievements. My educational

achievements will include my Academic Plan of Study at Keller Graduate and my

transcript from N.C State University. A small section of my key course outcomes and

assignments will be mentioned. I will then go into my community and volunteer

experiences. Next you will see my resume, and it will be followed with examples of my

work experience. I will then include results of my SPR test, and Disc Survey results and

written reports and networking connections. I will include a brief section on my work

philosophy and then a section on my current goals. A section will be included of an

executive summary of a business venture that I plan on starting one day soon and then my

summary or conclusion of my career portfolio.

Educational Goals

I completed my first long term educational goal on Dec 15, 2004.

I completed my B.S degree in Business Management with a concentration in marketing from North Carolina State University. To some this may not seem major, but to me it meant a great deal. I faced a lot of challenges while obtaining my degree. I had to work through college in order to pay my bills; I also struggled with being a single mother during my college years after going through a divorce. This was not an easy journey; I had to take off a few semesters to catch up on bills to take care of my daughter. When I did return to school I took 22 hours a semester so I could graduate in 2004.

Lessons Learned while obtaining my degree.

I realized I was very determined. That I could preserve through hard times, and never give up! I learned that I could accomplish anything that I set my mind to.

I currently am working on my Masters of Human Resource Management degree. I currently have only three electives left and my final course project. I chose this degree because I used to work in HR early in my professional career and I did enjoy the work and I wanted to concentrate my studies in this area. I feel HR is growing strategically and evolving and that every company depends on a strong HR department to be successful. I should have my degree completed in March of 2012.

Here is my current Keller Graduate Academic Plan of Study:

MHRM Core Courses Accounting and Finance: Managerial Use and Analysis (FI504) Legal, Political and Ethical Dimensions of Business (GM520) Leadership and Organizational Behavior (GM591) Managerial Applications of Information Technology (IS535) Marketing Management (MM522) MHRM Human Resource CoursesManaging Organizational (HR587) HR Management (HR590) Training and Development (HR592) Employment Law (HR593) Compensation (HR598) MHRM 4 Elective CoursesGM 548 INTP 585HR 599PA 571MHRM Capstone CourseHuman Resource Planning (HR600

Examples of Key Course Assignment’s:

Consider your percentage of sales for the organization in Year 1 through Year 5. You are not required to project the company sales volume. Will the company be able to maintain the sales increases to support your proposed pay increases annually?

The sales for the organization in Year 1 through Year 5 will be projected as

follows; in the 1st year we will need to have at least 2000 season ticket holders to even

operate a team. The 2nd and 3rd year should be a goal of at least an additional 2500 new

season ticket holders thereafter, with a WNBA minimum yearly renewal goal of 80%

percent which would total 2,000 season tickets that have been renewed with the new

yearly goal of 2500 for a total of 4500 season tickets for the 2nd year, the 3rd year 3600

(renewal form year 2) + yearly goal of 2500 would total 6100, plus the 4th year of sales

which would be 4,880 (renewal from year 3) + goal of 2500 =7,380, year 5 would be

5,904 (renewal from year 4)+ 2500 of goal =8,404. With these sales goals and

projections if these goals are met, then there would be more than enough money to

support the proposed pay increases each year. The chart below shows these amounts for

the first five years.

Examples of my personal Work Ethics and Experiences

My Inspiration and my example of true quality work ethic.

The picture below is of my oldest sister Chasity Melvin. She is a professional basketball player, who has been in the WNBA for over 13 years. She has also played overseas for over 14 years, in many different countries such as; Italy, Russia, Poland, Korea, Israel, Spain and Africa. She has been a tremendous inspiration to me, by showing the example that we can accomplish all of our goals and dreams if we work hard and never give up. My sister plays year round professional basketball with only a 2 to 3 week break for the past 8 years. She never misses practices or games, she always shows up and gives her best no matter what she maybe going through, or how tired and worn out her body maybe. She has taught me to challenge myself, always strive for the best and never settle for less. I really can say that her influence in my life growing up and even now, has pushed me out of my comfort zone, and has made me seek challenges and opportunities to grow and become successful in everything I attempt. Whenever I feel like settling or giving up on my goals I thing of my sister and I push myself to keep going and to keep striving for excellence.

Page 15: Melvin Jimmelle Career Develpment Portfolio

15

I think Outside the Box!!!

This next picture on page 6, of wnba sneakers, is an example of how I though outside the box in my last position as an account executive for the Washington Mystics. The idea was generated from being at exhibitions and different venues, and having not having any customers attracted to our sales displays or sales tables. I had an idea to have a pair of sneakers customized with the mystic’s logos on them and pictures of some of the marquee players. I then displayed the shoes on our sales tables at our next venue, and we couldn’t keep people away from our table asking questions. The shoes truly attracted a variety of people to our table, which then gave us an opportunity to speak with them about our products.

Page 16: Melvin Jimmelle Career Develpment Portfolio

16

I was awarded a bonus for being Top Sales Person of the Year!

In 2007 was award the highest award of a bonus of $3,000 dollars for being the top rep of the year for the Washington Mystics for the 2006 season. I also received this award in 2008 for being the #1 rep of the WNBA for the 2008 season.

I successfully created new projects and group ideas.

These next couple of pages will show you the projects that I created and successfully carried out the past year during my time as an Account Executive for the Washington Mystics.

1st Annual Youth Gospel Night Reached out to local youth pastors and partnered with them to create a fun

night for their youth. Included the kids to participate and show their talents at a WNBA and to

perform at the Verizon Center. Implemented every detail of the project; including soliciting, marketing, and

organizing the event. Ranked at the end of the year in the top 50 groups in tickets sold for all

WNBA teams.

Camp Day presentation resulted in sales revenue of over $30,000!!!

Below you will see the 1st and last page of the Camp day presentation that I prospected and mailed to daycares in the Va, Md, and D.C area, and I used in Atlanta GA, which resulted in over 3,000 tickets being sold, for this day alone.
