The next meeting of the Lodge is indicated by a colour coded
heading in
this colour.
Unless otherwise stated all meetings are held at Freemasons
Hall, Great Queen Street,London and start at 5.00 p.m. precisely.
HOWEVER, as an experiment it has been agreed
that all the meetings in 2013, will commence at 4.00 p.m. in the
expectation that this will
assist more to catch transport home and thereby assist more
Brethren to attend the meeting.
If the experiment proves successful, consideration will be given
to make the change to the
starting time permanent.
Dress
For members of UGLE: Dark suit, undress regalia and white
gloves.
For members of other recognised constitutions: Dark clothing and
the undress regalia you
would normally wear in your own Craft Lodge.

The Real History of the Ceremony of "Passing the Veils" in
Bristol

A ceremony of Passing the Veils is common throughout Scotland,
Ireland and the United States ofAmerica, but is unknown in England
except in the Province of Bristol where it forms an integral part
ofthe Exaltation ceremony. There is a generally held view that
Passing the Veils was re-introduced inBristol in about 1900-1910 by
the Beaufort Chapter, No. 103. A careful examination of the
availableevidence, however, shows that this view is not correct.
The author concludes that there was no re-introduction. The current
Bristol practice of Passing the Veils is essentially the same as
what was being
done in The Beaufort Chapter in 1890 and has been worked
continuously in Bristol since at least around1817 and probably long
before.

Biography Tony Baker was born in Welshpool, Powys in 1953, and
educated at Shrewsbury School,Cambridge University, and St. Thomas
Hospital. After training in Leicester, where he gained an MD,he
moved to Bristol where he practises as a consultant vascular and
general surgeon. He was initiatedin Powis Lodge (No. 7355), in
Welshpool in 1984 and was exalted in Welchpool Chapter (No. 998)
in1986. He was WM of The St. Vincent Lodge (No. 1404) in Bristol in
1999, and First Principal ofJerusalem Chapter again in Bristol in
2004. He loves the Bristol Ritual in both the Craft and theRoyal
Arch. He served as PrGChap in 2005, and as PrSGW in 2008 and is
currently Provincial GrandOrator and Mentor in Bristol and Third
Provincial Grand Principal. He was honoured with the rank of
PAGDC in 2011. He has occupied the Chair in a total of nine
other Masonic Orders. His maininterest is in the interpretation of
what the Masonic ceremonies might mean, what they might betrying to
tell us, rather than the history of the origins and administration
of Freemasonry
