HISTORYThe H.A. King Company has provided design, consulting and manufacturing services forrubber bonded to metal products for over 50 years. These products have provided solu-tions for vibration, shock and noise problems for many industry applications.

PRODUCTSH.A. King Company was originally founded to provide design services and the manufactureof rubber to metal engine mounting components and special torsional crankshaft vibrationdampers. We have now expanded our activities to include many special rubber to metalisolators to solve problems in many stationary and non vehicular applications.

CAPABILITYAt H.A. King Company, we specialize in rubber to metal bonded products. These are usedto solve any vibration control applications. This means our products are engineered tomeet rigid specifications required by a particular application. Part of our capability is thatwe utilize the flexibility of out-sourcing many of our individual components:

RUBBER COMPOUNDING: Rather than being limited to some in house rubbercompounding methods, we are free to solicit the most up-to-date processes used by theindustries leading rubber compounders. This affords you, the customer, the best of bothworlds competitive pricing and the latest "state-of-the-art,"' rubber compounding.

METAL FABRICATING: we also utilize out-sourcing for the necessary metalstamping used in our products. Again, this allows us to review and purchase the mostcompetitive unit from a price and quality stand point that is available in the industry.

H.A. King Company then processes and assembles these parts into quality isolators,engine mounts and other specialized rubber parts.

ELASTOMER SELECTION GUIDE

The selection of elastomers is an important and crucial step in isolatordesign. In compounding elastomers for isolator use, the objectives are toproduce 1) mechanical properties that fulfill service and performance require-ments, 2) processing characteristics that can be used with existing toolingand equipment, and 3) an elastomer with satisfactory properties that is low incost.

It is important to define all the service conditions and limits thoroughly whenselecting the elastomer that best suits the application. These include operatingtemperatures, environmental conditions (exposure to chemicals and othercontaminants) and performance requirements such as load capacity andresponse to dynamic inputs.

Unless the performance and environmental requirements are particularlystringent, the most cost effective choice would be to use a standardelastomer. H.A. King utilizes these compounds as standards that meet themajority of application requirements.

ENGINE MOUNTING FORVIBRATION AND NOISE CONTROL

The engine is one of the major causes of vibrationaldisturbances in an on-or-off-highway vehicle. The on-or-off-highway vehicle, being a complex network ofstructural members and mechanical, electrical andelectronic components, is very susceptible to the dam-aging effects of vibrational disturbances. Isolating theengine can help to eliminate thesedamaging inputs.

An engine coupled directly to a support structure hasa direct path for the transmission of vibration andnoise. These vibrational and noise inputs are damag-ing to the structure and equipment of the cab and cre-ate a poor environment for the operator. Othermechanical, electrical and electronic components with-in the vehicle can also suffer a loss in operation effi-ciencies and service life due to these inputs.

The use of a properly designed resilient element tomount the engine to the support structure will reducethe transmitted vibrations and sever the noise paths.This resilient coupling results in a smoother and qui-eter environment for the operator. Additional benefitsare added fatigue life for components, accessoriesand structural fasteners.

The information required of the designer is simply adescription of the engine and its operating characteris-tics. With only the information obtained from theanalysis form presented on the reverse, the H.A. kingdesign team can make isolator recommendations tosolve even the most troublesome engine isolation pro-jects.

OPERATOR CAB MOUNTINGFOR VIBRATION AND NOISE CONTROL

Vibration and shock inputs to cab of a heavy-dutyvehicle can come from various sources. One ofthe primary vibration sources is the engine Othersources are highway and off-highway vibration andshock inputs which reduce operator efficiencywhile the vehicle is in motion. These multi-sourceinputs are also damaging to the structure andequipment in the cab. Instruments and electroniccomponents can suffer a loss in operation efficien-cies and service life due to these dynamic inputs.

The use of a resilient element to couple the cab tothe frame provides a method to isolate vibrationand reduce noise. This resilient coupling results ina smoother and quieter operating environment.

The information required of the designer is simplya description of the cab's design and performancegoals. With only the information obtained below,the H. A. king design team can make one or moreisolation system recommendations to improve theoperating environment and extend the service lifeof the cab's components.
