  • Putting the Pieces Together-A Recipe for SuccessIn 2006 Brevard developed an aggressive approach to improving classroom learning through the use of the latest and greatest Tech Tools. A model classroom was constructed to contain tools to improve the way students See (Projector) the Curriculum, Hear (Audio Enhancement), and Interact (Wireless Keyboards, Mice, Slates, SmartBoards Student Responders). 21st Century-Meeting the Sunrise Standard: Presented to Tech Committee-Decide where do we start?

Howd we do it?? District Support: Computer Refreshment Program-Unveiled in 2006-All Schools to complete a School Technology Plan-Accurate and up-to-date Inventory-Approval=$$$ for computers only District Technology Funds- $8.00 Per FTE (Funds come with a Memo from Super of ET detailing what to spend this money on and all purchases from this string are approved by Mr. Muzzy) No ink Cartridges Title I Money- Main Budget mostly spent on Teacher Salaries; Carry Forward money has been used to purchase new technology hardware and software-This totals approximately $ over the last 3 years.A School Money-Past 7 years faculty/staff have voted for an 80/20 split resulting in over $100,000 with the majority of the money going into Technology.Strong PTO- Successful Fundraisers- Set a goal at the beginning year meeting-This past year we were able to purchase a Mobile Lab of 24 laptops.General Mills Boxtops Those little $.10 coupons really add up- This year we received our largest check ever $1240. This goes towards: Software Licensing; Computer Lab Supplies-Headphones, mice, etc

Flexible-The overall Training Picture is created by the Tech Committee at the first meeting after the school year starts. Tech Committee is diverse in that there is a rep from every dept. and grade level. Prior to the meeting- teachers get input from their teammates on what they feel they need. As new products are rolled out by the District, topics are added to the training schedule. Technology Training can be all teachers-a few teachers-one teacher.

On Demand: Geeks are available to work with teachers on planning and also after school every day. We pump this up at faculty meetings- teachers know they can always get help with any type technology issue.

Hands-On: An absolute Must for any Technology Workshop- Overwhelmingly teachers like the format of the workshops- Introduce/Step through/Play Time
