EIFL and Next Library are delighted to present the winners of seven schol-arships to attend Next Library Festival. Each of the seven winners will partici-pate in the festival by helping to shape the programme, and share experiences and ideas. They will also inform their colleagues and communities about the festival through social media, presenta-tions and other channels. We asked them what they would bring to the table at Next Library and what they expect to take back from the conference to use in their future work. Every day of the Festival you will meet some of them here in the Next Library Daily.
Petar Lukacic, head of Services for Adult Users at Public Library Fran Galovic in Koprivnica, Northern CroatiaMy present to the table of the Next Library family is a library filled with ideas and positive thinking, a pro-
gramme that bonds local community with ideas that they can integrate into their every-day life. Li-
brary is not just a place to lend books you can also lend ideas and make an impact in your everyday life. This programme is free and easily applied in every library and easily organized. TEDxKoprivnicaLibrary.
Every participation on international library conferences is an opportunity to bond and listen from the better ones than me – I love to learn and I love to serve my community and my patrons. I expect to fill my head with new ideas that I can integrate in my library so that I can serve better my local community.
Kemberley Constable, Library Assis-tant at Ti Rocher Library in Micoud, a village on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. We implemented annually computer classes for adults; within this program, about 90% of the adults taking this course were unemployed young
women with children. We then seek assistant in getting other courses implemented to help create
working opportunities for unemployed women within our communities. Therefore, in collaboration with George Brown Enactus we implemented a Girls Going Forward project, to empower young women through entrepreneur-ship to become financially independent and able to support themselves and their families. The women created a business call Tropical Bliss St. Lucia and currently they have produced three different scented scrubs namely Spice, Lime Coconut and Choco Holic. At present they are producing a ginger scented scrub.
The opportunity to meet with and engage professionals in the field would facilitate an exchange of ideas, experi-ences and problem solving tactics. My overall objective for this trip is to reap maximum benefit from this exchange, and to bring back knowledge that could contribute significantly to the goals of Library Services in St. Lucia, especially as it relates to establishing an online presence and access to electronic resources, challenging the perception of libraries, redefining their role in the community and reestablish-ing libraries as the heart of community activity.
Jeff Bonile, manager of eLearning Programmes at the public libraries in Johannesburg, South Africa. I want to share how we have intro-duced the ELearning Program as an extension of library services since 2014, focusing on provision of internet and electronic technologies in libraries. I want to share experiences in training staff from all City of Johannesburg’s 8 regions, my training plan, and the chal-lenges I faced in introducing eLearning as a concept. I want to share my cur-rent project of compiling an ELearning Catalogue with eLearning content, and how we plan to utilise the eLearning classrooms introduced to selected libraries. And I want to share my pro-ject of compiling an eLearning terms dictionary for library professionals.
I would like to learn about libraries that have used Peer to Peer university sup-
port for online courses, to learn about libraries that have used eLearning resources as community
development tools. I would like to learn how other libraries have addressed language challenges when introducing online content. Traditional collection development in public libraries is not the same as sourcing online content and this is a challenge I would like to find out other libraries have experi-ences. And I want to learn about the multimedia centres as we are also in the process of building libraries that are multimedia centres. At last I would like to find libraries to collaborate with for eLearning programs.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
‘ No idea is good or bad or crazy – you need to share it because it might help someone else get an even better idea.’ Christian Byrge Proposed by: Aude Charillon, Newcastle Libraries, United Kingdom Pick up the prize at NL Studio!
having trouble getting novel ideas for your library?
Start using creativity techniques such as provocations. To use provocations means to set up a cognitive blocking for your routine thinking about a situation in your library. An example of a provocation might be there are no shelves in the library. One idea might be to then put magnets on the back of books and place them on magnetic plates on the walls …
