Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones will retire at the end of the 2012 season. Over the

course of his career, which began in 1993, Jones has participated in almost 2,600 games and has hit

481 home runs (468 home runs in the regular season).

Here are Jones' most memorable home runs:

Jones Hits His First Home Run: Jones hit his first homer on May 9, 1995. He belted a line drive to

deep right field in the top of the ninth inning off of the New York Mets' Josias Manzanillo to break a

2-2 tie.

Jones' First Walkoff Home Run: Jones hit his first walkoff home run on May 20, 1995. The

Braves were playing the Florida Marlins, and the game was tied 7-7. Jones came up to the plate and

hit a solo homer to deep right to end the game. Over the course of his career, Jones has hit nine regu-

lar-season walkoff homers.

Jones Saves the Braves in His First-Ever Playoff Game: Jones made his first postseason appear-

ance in Game 1 of the 1995 NLDS, which pitted the Braves against the Colorado Rockies. He did

not exhibit any jitters in that contest when he hit a solo home run with two outs in the top of the

ninth to break a 4-4 tie. The Braves beat the Rockies 5-4.

Jones Hits First Grand Slam: Jones did not record his first grand slam until June 25, 1997. Amaz-

ingly, he would belt two more grand slams within 16 days of his first one. It would be over a year

before Jones hit his fourth grand slam.

Jones Hits the 400 Home-Run Mark: All of the players in the top 50 all-time home runs list have

hit 400 or more homers. Jones entered this elite group on June 5, 2008, when he hit number 400 off

of the Marlins' Ricky Nolasco.

Jones Passes Winfield on the All-Time Home-Run List: Jones moved ahead of Hall of Famer

Dave Winfield to place 32nd on the all-time home runs list when he hit number 466 on Aug. 16,

2012.

Jones Hits Last Regular-Season Home Run: Unless he belts another homer in the next few days,

Jones will have recorded his last regular-season home run on Sept. 2, 2012. Incidentally, this one

was a walkoff homer.

It’s official: American Idol is adding new judges from the worlds of country music and hip hop.

Fox announced that 44-year-old Aussie singer Keith Urban and colorful 29-year-old rapper Nicki Minaj will sit with pop

diva Mariah Carey at the season 12 judges table of the reality hit, along with returning judge Randy Jackson. The confir-

mation settles months of behind-the-scenes reports and speculation about the show’s panel that saw singers such as Katy

Perry, Miley Cyrus, Nick Jonas, Adam Lambert and Kanye West floated as possible judges.

“Nicki’s an unbelievably captivating in-

ternational phenomenon who has made an

indelible mark on rap and pop,” said

Fox’s president of alternative Mike Dar-

nell in a statement. “And Keith is another

great addition to Idol – he’s one of the

biggest stars in country music and I know

that our fans and contestants will fall in

love with him. With an unparalleled star

like Mariah, fan-favorite Randy, chart-

toppers like Nicki and Keith and our in-

comparable host Ryan [Seacrest], we’ve

put together one of the most exciting

judging panels around.”Earlier this sum-

mer, Fox announced the exit of Idol sea-

son 10 and 11 judges Steven Tyler and

Jennifer Lopez, along with the hiring of

Carey. The network then strongly consid-

ered shifting Jackson to a mentor role.

After quietly selecting Minaj and Urban

for slots, Fox recently made an offer to Latin singer-songwriter Enrique Iglesias to fill a fourth spot, but those talks

broke down last week. In addition to Carey receiving about $17 million for her role on the show, we’re hearing Urban

will pull down about $4 million. According to one report, Minaj will earn around $8 million. The announcement also

confirms Idol will return to a four-judge format that the show previously used in its eighth and ninth seasons. Idol

switched back to three judges after some felt the show was spending too much time showcasing the judges’ opinions

rather than the contestants’ performances. But hot rival The Voice has managed to function just fine with four judges,

and X Factor has employed a judging quartet as well.

About The Arrowhead

The Arrowhead was founded in 2004 by Auburn University professors Trish O’Kane,

Nan Fairley, Loachapoka High School teacher, Lesleigh Golson., and Loachapoka stu-

dents. Loachapoka students were picked to write articles and take pictures for the paper.

After the 2008 school year, the paper disbanded due to lack of interest. One of the origi-

nal founders of the newspaper has returned back to Loachapoka with a desire to revive

the paper. We hope you like our 1st issue and look forward to the 2nd issue which will be

bigger and better!
