Committee Goals• Develop a district philosophy and belief
statements regarding assessment and reporting.
• Identify and develop a plan for implementing best practices in formative and summative classroom assessments.
• Design report cards that reflect our grading philosophy, best practices, and our Vision 2020.

What We Learned About Best Practice• Students need multiple
opportunities to demonstrate learning
• We cannot rely on a single assessment to determine student achievement
• Allow new evidence of achievement to replace old evidence
• Important to use Summative & Formative assessment
• Feedback needs to be specific, timely, and understandable
What We Learned About Best Practice• Students need to know what and
where the target is in order to achieve the goal
• Encourage self-assessment, reflection, and goal setting
• Provide students a model, choice• Less evaluative feedback• Measure more than content
standards (HoM & P21)• Purposeful and intentional
grading practices
