MEDWAY SPORTS AWARDS Primary success for Horsted Primary, The Pilgrim School and Delce Academy. Secondary success for Greenacre Academy and The Rowans
The Medway Sports Awards were held on Friday 16th December 2016 at Mid Kent College in Gillingham. The biannual awards ceremony celebrates all the sporting successes that Medway is proud to have achieved. Special Guests for the evening were Olympic Gold Medallists from Rio: gymnast Max Whitlock and hockey player Maddie Hinch.
The Greenacre Sports Partnership sponsors the Medway Sports Awards and specifically the Primary School of the Year category.
From GSP, the short-listed nominees for the Primary School of the Year were:
Delce AcademyDelce has a clear focus of improving PE in school, improving children’s fitness and engagement with sport. The school employs three full time sports
teachers who provide high quality PE for all children in the school alongside a competitive programme of events and access to a wide range of clubs.
Horsted Primary SchoolHorsted Primary School’s has worked hard to improve both teaching and learning standards and has gone from bronze to gold in the School Games Award in three consecutive years. Pupils achieved the best finishing positions in Mini Youth Games competitions of any school in the Greenacre Sports Partnership and has enjoyed team and individual success at a local and county level. The school expects full participation in lessons with a focus on coaching and officiating leadership through Sports Crew training.
The Pilgrim SchoolA small, one-form-entry village school, The Pilgrim School has punched above
its weight in competitions. The school finished sixth overall in the Mini Youth Games 2015-2016 series and won the Best Placed Small School trophy. Its girls’ table tennis team also won county and regional tournaments and qualified for the National School Team Championships. The school has also worked hard to develop its teaching of PE, including a focus on the science of how exercise impacts on strength and health.
Warren Wood Primary AcademyWarren Wood has transformed the attitude of children and staff towards PE and competition with the appointment of a dedicated PE teacher, Ms Barr, in 2015. Changes have included breakfast, lunch and daily after school clubs, team teaching by class teachers and Ms Barr, a mile-a-day initiative, the launch of a leadership

Sports Crew, a new Day of Sport and the extension of swimming lessons for Years 3-6 throughout the year.
Wayfield Primary SchoolWayfield Primary School has taken huge strides to improve its PE and School Sport offer. In 2015-2016 the school entered every Mini Youth Games competition, winning the Fair Play award twice. It has provided opportunities for pupils to try almost 30 new sports, more and more children are taking part in daily after school clubs and the school has introduced a Sports Crew to lead in-school activities. Wayfield has now achieved a Silver School Games Mark.
On the evening the results for the Primary School of the Year were as follows:

Greenacre AcademyGreenacre Academy is continuously striving to excel and sustain
opportunities for pupils to participate in PE and sport. The Academy enters every event in the Medway Secondary School Games and encouraged intra and inter-school competitions. It has worked hard to retain the School Games Gold Mark. Competitive successes include victory in the indoor rowing and futsal competitions and an overall second place in the Games series 2015-2016. The Years 7, 8 and 11 teams were also all runners up in the 2015-2016 Football League.
The RowansWith only 54 pupils on role, and one of the only alternative provisions in Medway for excluded pupils, The Rowans excels in its delivery of quality PE and school sport and has achieved the School Games Gold Mark. The Rowans has introduced four whole school sporting events and an annual sports day, is fully included in the Medway Secondary School Games series competing against mainstream schools and has worked hard to develop other extra curricular activities. The school is using sport as a tool in many other subject areas and to engage pupils, transforming their lives, developing self-esteem and providing

LESSON PLAN: DANCE: YEAR 1: WEEK 5
LESSON OBJECTIVE: To learn how to create and demonstrate a clear beginning, middle and an end to their routines.
WARM UP (10 MINS)
Shouting out different moods and feelings or using pictures of
emotion faces, pupils to recap on movements that reflect that
emotion.
E.g. teacher shouts out happy: Pupils skip/bounce around the
room with smiles on their faces.
MAIN LESSON (20 MINS)
Explain to pupils that when performing we need to show the
audience when we are starting and when we finish, by holding
a still position so they know when to clap and cheer. Using a
percussion instrument, ask pupils to hold a shape at the beginning,
when the tambourine starts to shake they move around the
space, and when the teacher stops using the tambourine they
have to stop in a controlled manner and hold a still position
again. Highlight any good positions that create a stable balance.
Develop: Back with their partners from previous week. Can they
add a start and a finish position to their routines?

Video pupils performance and let them watch it back to comment
on their own performance.

Jacinta Read and Sam Jessup from St Marys. Both teachers always showed full involvement in introducing, learning and teaching Outdoor Adventurous Activities to their classes. They were always prepared with resources and knowledge about the lesson content to ensure the lesson ran smoothly. They also continuously thought about using cross curricular learning to get the most out of students.
As we are unable to separate the nominees this term, the WINNERS of the GSP Teacher of the Term, for Term 2 are JACINTA READ & SAM JESSUP FROM ST MARYS CATHOLIC SCHOOL. Well done to Sam & Jacinta – keep up the hard work.

SSG RUGBY UNION110 Participants! 8 Schools!
On Thursday 10th November, the Howard School Sports Partnership & Greenacre Sports Partnership hosted the third event of the Secondary School Games, the Rugby Union Competition, held at Medway Rugby Club. 8 schools from across Medway took part in the competition and a total of 110 pupils participated.

England handball representative Tom Middleton stated that with so many schools and players attending it was by far the largest schools Handball competition in the country to date.

SSG FUTSAL320 Participants! 40 Teams! 10 Schools!On Thursday 15th December Greenacre Sports Partnership and The Howard Sports Partnership hosted the Secondary School Games Futsal competition. There was a total of 40 teams across 6 different age ranges which came together at Medway park to compete in this competition. We had a total of 320 participants throughout the day.
