1. Background
Malaria Elimination Demonstration Project (MEDP) is a first-of-its-kind public-private-partnership between the Indian
Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Government of Madhya Pradesh (GoMP), and the Foundation for Disease
Elimination and Control of India (FDEC-India, established by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. as a not-for-profit
entity). The goal of MEDP is to demonstrate successful elimination of malaria from 1233 villages of Mandla district
and use the lessons learnt for eliminating malaria from rest of Madhya Pradesh and the country.

2. Malaria Cases
We started the track, test, treat and track (T4) on August 30, 2017. For the ease of standardization of monthly data,
the data shown is from September 1st in Progressive Totals column. Till the end of December 2020, we have tracked
and tested 3,34,242 fever cases and diagnosed 648 Malaria positive cases. This month zero malaria positive cases
were found.
3. Fourth manuscript as part of the thematic series published and one accepted in the Malaria Journal
The fourth manuscript titled “Socio-
economic determinants of malaria in tribal
dominated Mandla district enrolled in
Malaria Elimination Demonstration Project
in Madhya Pradesh” as part of the eleven-
paper thematic series of the Malaria
Elimination Demonstration Project was
published in the Malaria Journal (Figure 1).
The fifth manuscript titled “Significance of
training, monitoring and assessment of
malaria workers in achieving malaria
elimination goal of Malaria Elimination Demonstration Project” has been accepted for publication and is in-press.

4. MEDP featured on the global malaria elimination network of Malaria Elimination Scientific Alliance (MESA)
The MESA alliance is a living database which captures research projects and institutions’ portfolios in malaria
elimination and eradication. It is hosted Barcelona Institute for Global Health, Spain and support fulfilling its mandate
as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Malaria Control, Elimination and Eradication.
The Malaria Elimination Demonstration Project is now featured on the MESA alliance network. The progress and

5. IEC/BCC reorientation training conducted for MEDP field staff
by ICMR-NIRTH Jabalpur.
On December 30, 2020, a virtual reorientation training for Malaria
Field Coordinators on IEC/ BCC strategy adopted in MEDP was
done to discuss the findings of the IEC/BCC assessment study and
to strengthen the capacity of Malaria Field Coordinators of MEDP
Mandla.
The case load in the month of April 18*, includes 6 imported cases from the state
of Telangana
Advent of monsoons. Rise in cases followed by sharp decline in
August.
