History of the Medical School1367 University of Pécs founded by King Louis the Great

1923 Hungarian Royal Erzsébet University transferred to Pécs

from Bratislava

1948 Named ”University of Sciences of Pécs”

1951 Independent Medical University of Pécs established

1966 New university hospital (400-bed-clinic)

Béla Entz

Was a Kossuth Prizewinning Hungarian anatomist, professor, Member of Parliament, and President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The general assembly of UNESCO decided the year 2012 to be dedicated to honourhis 100th birthday.

Was a pathology and forensic medicine professor, rector of the University of Pécs,corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy. Most of his scientific works are important partsof the fundamental works of the classical pathology in Hungary.

Was a nerve physiologist, professor, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Hisresearch on the functioning of the hippocampus has groundbreaking importance.

Renowned pathologist researcher and instructor, who first described amyloid submicroscopic structure. Ordinary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

pass the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE),

The entire clinical building complex is simultaneously able to care for a total of 367 inpatients. Almost half a million people

use the health services provided by the departments of the Clinical Centre of UP annually.

Can accommodate 375 people, the centre serves primarily the graduate training.


The Szentágothai Research CentreWith the most advanced instrumentation and high-level knowledge

base, the centre with 24 research teams provides an excellent basis to become Hungary’s and even Central Europe's leading research centre.


Medical SkillsLab

Participates in developing the manual skills of graduate and postgraduate medical students and doctors by using high-quality
